British Bella May Culley 18, Pattaya Thailand 10th May

The prosecutor asked for 55 days to find evidence before the case is brought to trial and the BBC understands this could be extended by a further seven months. At the end of a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday Miss Culley told the court she was pregnant.

Her lawyer, Ia Todua, said police wanted to establish where 12kg (26lbs) of marijuana and 2kg (4.4lbs) of hashish had come from and whether she was "planning to hand it over to someone".

Culley has undergone medical tests to determine if she is pregnant, but Ms Todua is not at liberty to confirm or deny if her client is pregnant.

She said: 'The first thing they do is a medical check up, and obviously the pregnancy situation is investigated and checked, but without Bella's explicit approval I cannot confirm nor deny anything.'

I would have thought if Bella was pregnant she would have wanted it to be headline news.

It might be phantom pregnancy 🤔

Phew
Knowing Georgians
she is certain to be met in her new accommodation with honours.
They are very hospitable people :D

But quite traditional concerning female attire.
Ooops!

I need the cynical font for this.

The article says she had worked some bank nurse shifts, which can’t be accurate at face value. She’d need to have taken a nursing degree wouldn’t she?

The article also had this information.

Culley, who recently finished a course at Middlesbrough College with the aim of becoming a nurse, was in regular contact with her mother Lyanne Kennedy.I

That sounds as if she might have taken a social care type course at college rather than studying for A levels.
The bank work could have been in a care home or somewhere else that employed unqualified carers.
The family are probably keen to promote her as kind and caring with a career ahead of her.

It's hard for me to belive she would be allowed in a care home with the long and cumbersome stilleto or coffin mancure styles she is showing in her TikTok stuff.

Mr Culley said: "She went to the Philippines to see somebody, a lad there, who she used to go out with a couple of years ago, who was working out there.

"She said, 'I'm going on my own, but I'm meeting Ross out there. Or Russ, I'm not sure what his name is.

"He was working out there for his father's company or something - but now I wonder if what she told me was true."

Used to go out with a couple of years ago, but cant remember if his name is Russ or Ross. A couple of years ago would be about 15-16 years old.

Follows Russ / Ross and other lads to Thailand.

Perhaps it's wisest to get her in a stable prison environment to cool her jets for a coupld of years and find some maturity. It doesn't seem to be coming from the home.

There are now fears Bella May Culley, 18, had fallen in with British drug dealers while backpacking in Thailand -

From her self-presented TikTok, it appears she had "fallen in with drug dealers" when she was in the UK, far less in Thailand.

It's possible that she followed an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) pathway rather than the usual A Level one to qualify for entry to a nursing degree.

The UK has a number of pathways for ages 16-18 which suit different groups of students with different learning styles and abilities. The classic, academic, route is through A Levels but there are also NVQs and BTECs (Business and Technology Education Council) which are more vocational and less academic in approach. All, however, can lead to university entry if studied to the right level.

But yes, she could equally have been studying for childcare, social care or similar rather than pre-nursing.

Is the accused appearing in Court
in her pyjamas??? 😲

I'm trying to imagine the expression on the face of Judge.

Not necessarily. There's something of a crisis in staffing for residential facilities for the elderly which means that management may have to give a trial to potential staff that otherwise they might turn down.

There's been a lot of recruitment from overseas in the past two decades. After 2004, a lot of staff were recruited from Eastern and Central Europe after the accession of 15 countries to the EU. Some staff went home after Brexit but equally some have since gone on to other, better paid work and therefore left the sector. I'm aware that management have been looking further afield with varying results. One chain of homes I had some involvement with recruited from Ghana, Nepal and the Philippines. The latter two were generally very successful but there were cultural issues with carers recruited from Ghana as residents seemed to find the Ghanaian staff too brusque and therefore intimidating.
