Was her legal last name Searle I wonder or is the media taking liberty and she still went by Kerr?

If she was legally Searle since marriage strange she'd start using Kerr again or randomly but maybe I'm not getting the name thing right!
Going by this (from an article above) her legal name was Searle

Mrs Searle was the mother of former Hollyoaks and Monarch of the Glen actor Callum Kerr. The 30-year-old from Musselburgh released a statement with his sister February 8. It read: “At this time, Callum Kerr and Amanda Kerr are grieving the loss of their mother, Dawn Searle (née Smith, Kerr), while Tom Searle and Ella Searle are mourning the loss of their father, Andrew Searle.”

Why are we assuming the dogs were a factor in looking to house-sit? i've not seen anything to indicate they were but I'm paywalled on some sites.

At certain times of year, Edinburgh accommodation is prohibitively expensive. At other times, merely eye-wateringly expensive.

Wow!
I learnt new descriptions referencing to "expensive" hehe
"Eye-watetringly expensive" is going to be my favourite!!
Where's my tissue???
Thanks!
I'm still learning English :)

i'm not sure this is something you would do/seek unless you were in financial difficulty. Lots of hotels accept pets.
Many people do house swaps for their vacations, and they have very, very nice houses. It's free, yes, but it really means staying in a real home, in a nice neighbourhood where you can walk your dogs, with a real kitchen, not some sanitized hotel or barely-equipped AirBnB.

And it wouldn't have been just be a one-off thing - she was probably thinking ahead to long visits when grandkids arrive.

House sitting is really quite a normal thing to do if you travel lots. It’s a bit like the posher grown up version of sofa surfing or woofing. I have several well off middle aged friends who do it. Definitely not something you do if you are in financial difficulty, more something you’d do if you’re in sort of carefree travelling circles, which with their gite business, they would have been.

What is a gite business?

Weren't Dawn and Andrew charging people to stay at their place?
Yes, but in a separate, advertised, vacation suite, during the summer vacation high season. While they stayed in their home to take care of any problems/supply their guests needs, do cleaning, etc.

They weren't charging people to housesit, ie stay in their own portion of the house, where they themselves usually lived, while they went off on vacation. Charging people to take care of their home and pets for them, during the cold and rainy off-season.

When you rent out a suite, it is a business and you don't just rent to people you know.

When you are looking for a housesitter, you don't just let anyone show up - it's usually by word of mouth - someone you know and trust who knows someone who they trust. It's not a business, it's a mutual win-win.

It also sounds like a cheap holiday.

Usually ppl swap houses, no?

"I'll go to your place
and you'll go to mine."

Why am I explaining this?

She was going back to what had been her hometown.

There's no rules, no laws. Just people who have a large network of friends, and who can cooperate.

If course, she is dead, and will never get to visit.

House swaps are different to house sits. House sitting is to when the home owner is going to be away but wants someone to stay at their home to look after it, the garden and any pets they have. It’s quite common and very popular around the world.

Thanks. Was trying to determine if $$$ was a motive for murder.

House-sit sounds more along the lines of protecting the property from an insurance perspective.

House-swap appears to be more about jet setters. An elite online group (Dawn & Andrew.)

Whomever Andrew was reportedly speaking to on the phone (his dad) although I don't know if that is fact, the person is probably key to what happened to the couple. Or maybe the person who witnessed the call taking place.

Hmmm.....

From this article:

One investigator said: ‘What is very likely is that the victim was killed inside the house, with doors and windows shut on a winter’s night, and then her body dumped in the garden.’

It is believed that the killing was a ‘staged burglary gone wrong’.

This fits the ‘murder-suicide’ theory in the investigation that apparently saw Mr Searle kill his wife before hanging himself.

Nicolas Rigot-Muller, the Rodez prosecutor leading the investigation, told The Sunday Post that ‘a marital crime followed by a suicide’ was probable.

Has it been published what breed the "hunting" dogs are? Since he wears a tracker when he is off their property, we can assume they were not typically confined when he was gone, I'd guess. Could they have been for the purpose of serving as guard dogs and as early heads up if someone entered the property? With grounds, lots of green space, and a nearby river with lots of tributaries possibly providing access undetected by road and neighbors, guard dogs might have been comforting in hus circumstances. Does anyone know how long they've had these dogs? Just since his financial troubles or since he abruptly left his job? Given his age, his professional work tht involved "knowing things" and "how things work", access to both sensitive information and to high stakes money, I'm leaning toward this not being a simple "he got mad and offed his wife then himself in a mad rage", although it could easily be written off as such. That's the way they do it, you know. So many people flying out of windows and hanging themselves unexpectedly and with zero clue or forewarning even minutes beforehand.

But the dogs... I'm very curious about the dogs, and about his level of interest in actually hunting. Did he? Or did he just target practice?

If he was "enticed" to leave his job suddenly against all logic, similar enticements (or deterrents) can be made all the way up and down the chain. When one isn't enough, the other will be & escalating increments will be applied to the screws on each end until success is reached. I hope the investigation has multiple tiers on enough multiple fronts to successfully guard against this in the investigation hierarchy.
Technically my dog is a hunting breed (like a greyhound would be, or a foxhound also!) but mostly he hunts cheese and the softest bed!
Bit strange taking two hunting dogs to a wedding?
Tbf I’m not sure they are confirmed hunting dogs or just hunting breeds like technically a pointer or greyhound would be (but are pets in every day reality!)
