bolded by me.

I agree, this was very odd. Why was her mother in her house?

Helping her? It's not uncommon out there (Hollywood) when some of these actors start fairly young that a parent is with them and then remains close even years later.

If this poor girl was sick weather with a flu, a heart condition, drugs, eating disorder I'd think you'd want your mom's help.

Poor, poor girl. It's not right to speak of the dead badly, but a few years ago I saw an interview with Brittany and said to my friend "Oh my Go* what happened to this kid? She looks high and she's so skinny". Her eyes were huge. Like saucers.

I can't think of anything more horrible than for a mother to find her child in cardiac arrest in a bathroom. If it does come out this poor young lady was on drugs and was detoxing at home the place to go do drugs away from the person watching over you would be the bathroom. Eating disorders IMO are even worse than a drug addiction. It's a horrible, awful disease.

God Bless this child. I pray her mom can have some peace.

Regardless of what actually caused her death, this is such a sad loss. She was a very talented actress, and she was nothing short of brilliant in, "Girl, Interrupted" (one of my favorite movies).

I think Ashton Kutcher showed a lot of class today with his "Twitter" statement, regarding Brittany's death.

bolded by me.

He proved he's a true gentleman; considering what she said about him in the Letterman interview, which was mean-spirited and petty. Not very nice....could have been the drugs talking (assuming she was taking drugs).

JMO>>>

there will be time...and maybe info....coming out later
I guess the media is having a field day...how sad that Brittany's career was not what she
wanted these past years, she always seemed to really want "stardom" and even played up
the "old" Hollywood glamour ...and now she gets the press she longed for JMO

but right now I just feel sad to see this young vibrant woman "gone too soon"

........

(respectfully snipped)

By all accounts, Brittany was extremely close to her mother. Her mother moved them to Hollywood when a young Brittany said she wanted to pursuing acting.

I imagine her mother is beyond devastated.

Simon Monjack speaks to Access Hollywood.

As far as what happened inside the actress’ home early Sunday, when Murphy was found unresponsive in the shower, Monjack said up to that point, it had just been “a regular day."

“[Her mother] Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911,” he revealed.

Monjack admitted Murphy had been sick – but it did not seem like it was anything serious.
“She had laryngitis,” he said, noting she had seen a doctor.

I doubt she had a heart condition. If she had a heart condition/defect, I don't think her autopsy results would be "normal." They wouldn't need to wait for the tox screen to figure out why she died.

This man talking (didn't catch his name) on the Joy Behar show just reported that Simon is Jewish, which is probably why he did not want the autopsy performed.

I agree - it seems like the autopsy surely would have revealed that. Also, would an autopsy reveal diabetes?

I believe it hinges on the tox results and I believe those results will show drugs.

Oh no. I agree, Jenny. I meant in that a mother would help her child no matter the need.

I guess I was kind of trying to say this young lady is dead. I mean at such a young age that weather it be drugs, eating disorder or a flu a mother is just as devastated.

Most mothers I'd think. I can't fathom. This poor woman has to go on living while her dear child has passed at 32?

In medical examiner terms "normal weight" means something different then the context of whether it is a healthy weight for the living or not. It falls within a range and does not indicate malnutrition or undeveloped muscles.

MJ was also declared to be of a normal weight as I recall. He looked to be very thin also.
I presume they are looking at charts for weight/ height ratio, and I guess even when someone is really thin those charts say that weight is in the range of what is considered "normal."

Well I can easily believe he was "in love." But I can't help but wonder as what exactly would attract her to him? He looks to be overweight (even more so now then when they got married), he is older than her (by how much?), and I don't think anyone is going to argue he was very successful career-wise/financially.
I'm not picking on you jjenny, I've just seen this sentiment expressed quite a bit (by many people) since yesterday, regarding her husband's looks, and I must admit, I find it unsettling.

Am I the only one who has met a man whom I initially may have thought of as 'unattractive', only to get to know him better, and find that because of his sense of humor, because of his personality, because of his intelligence, because of the way he views the world, maybe even because of the way he makes me feel when I'm around him, suddenly he is the most appealing man I've met in years?

Never underestimate the power of chemistry between two people. That certain undefinable something that makes the pulse beat just a little more quickly when he is near.

Nope.

Have you seen any of her friends expressing an opinion that her husband might have not been a looker, but he sure had a great personality, or was a great guy? If so, by all means, post a link.

My astoundment at her being attracted to Monjack relates to the obvious...he seems to be of poor character, from what I've read...and that leaves looks...he's no George Clooney. I do agree that there can be other things, such as chemistry, that attract two people...but my money, and feeling, is on them both being drug or alcohol users and that might have been their bond...nothing like a using buddy....or someone that helps facilitate ones own using...someone to 'control' things so the addict can use can be very attractive...Tox results and the investigation should lift or cement those feelings...

And I find it strange that he spoke to Access Hollywood the day after her death...but that's just me...;) Does Access Hollywood pay for interviews? I know the AP doesn't.

So, it seems he's likely to get something...? Even 1/2...Anyone want to pipe in? I'm no lawyer...;)
California is a community property state, and they were married and residents of California, so I imagine her estate will now be his sole property.

The marriage will take precedence over any will she made prior to marriage.

Just a quick note here, to express my gratitude to Paladine and everyone else who has provided all the great links in this thread... you guys rock!

I'm sorry, I don't think I made my thoughts clear...

I was just trying to express that I understand why someone as beautiful as Brittany may have been in love with a guy considered to be 'unequal' to her in the looks department.

I wouldn't even be surprised if she loved him for how he made her feel about herself.

(I'm also not ready to discount that she may have fallen in love with her drug 'connection'. That happens, too).

That is true. look at Marilyn Monroe and men she married. Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller....they were not considered outstandingly handsome men.....
I do have someone in my family who is considered a 10 and she married a short toad of an older man but he is also quite wealthy LOL

People marry people for all different reasons. Looks arent always a big thing.

You know he will be challenging that.
They were young, they didn't sit down and do their wills but it was their intent, and as the spouse he is the rightful heir. Cannot imagine he won't.

Lets say he does challenge it. And yes I think he will.
I am not sure she did much work during the past 2.5 years.
He would be entitled to 50% of what she had earned during those years they were married - not before
But he also has a reputation as a mooch with his other women...I don't think any judge would take kindly to it.

My post didn't just talk about his looks.
