What is the difference between Vicodin and Vicoprophen? Is it just hydrocodone, one mixed with acetominophen and one with ibuprophen?

yes, that's exactly it. Vicoprophen is 7.5 mg hydro and 200 mg ibuprofen. We don't know the strength of the hydro/apap combo.

When all is said and done, I think her death will be similar to Ledger's - poor health combined with accidental overdose. A terrible tragedy.

Thanks. I can't imagine a doctor prescribing both but I guess stranger things have happened.

In theory if a patient complains of an upset stomach the doc might change from the tylenol version to the ibuprophen version, but most adults know that tylenol upsets their stomach or not, and them both being on the nightstand, etc..

I would assume two different docs and likely one is in Brittany's name and the other in mom's or a third party.

One fairly common doctor-shopping trick is to get the script for the pretty common Vicodin (the hydro/apap combo) and then call the dr and say the apap is upsetting your stomach and ask them to prescribe the less common hydro/ibuprophen combo. Or vice versa.

Then you get double the amount of hydro....which is what you're after anyway.

This is what I'm thinking too. We are seeing this sooo often lately. It's scary.

This really stuck out to me, probably because just the other day, my doctor took me off Ativan, put me on Klonopin, and told me NOT to mix the two. So why did she have prescriptions for both? The only think I can think of is my own situation - I still have a few Ativan left and just filled my rx for the Klonopin. But again, why have them both on her nightstand? The Ativan is going in my medicine cabinet and will not be used unless the doctor takes me off the Klonopin bc it doesn't work and okays me to be back on the Ativan.

I dunno, seems funny to have two benzos and two painkillers on the nightstand at the same time. Such a little thing but, IMO, it could quite possibly say a lot.

So maybe she had recently changed benzo's too, and still had both by her nightstand because she was too unwell to bother packing them away or flushing them? Just trying to optimistic here, despite it appearing to be another case of a celeb OD'ing on a cocktail of Rx drugs due to addiction.

Does anyone have a link to the meds that were in her name only? And which pill bottles were empty? TIA
ETA: It was also mentioned that various types of vitamins were found along with the rx'ed drugs. Has anyone come across a list of them? Just curious.

Yep, grew up with a drug addict so I have seen a lot of the tricks first hand. Everything about the situation is saying serious drug abuse to me.

On some other places, I am seeing people really get on over-prescribing doctors and I always think that's short-sighted.

Don't get me wrong - there are definitely docs that will over-write scripts for celebs, but the fact remains that all of these drugs are available on the street and someone with lots of $$ can get them without the aid of docs....or can supplement what the docs might give them.

If you're hooked on a drug, you're going to find a way to get it. And these people in Hollywood have more financial resources than the average bear. It's very sad.

The paramedic’s notes continue: “A check of the nightstands revealed large amounts of prescription medication in the decedent’s name. Also noted were numerous empty prescription medication bottles in the decedent’s husband’s name, the decedent’s mother’s name and unidentified third party names.”

So the empties were hubby's, mom's, and anon's? Sounds like they all kept their meds together (like hubby and I do) or it is another case of getting scripts for herself under other peoples names. Hoping it's the former.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told the AP "it appears to be natural,"

Aside from the troubling fact that Brittany Murphy died at such a young age as 32, the other most confounding part of her death is that the coroner said she died of natural causes. What does that even mean? Thankfully, Slate is here to explain:

For a coroner, any death caused by disease or old age is natural. When someone dies a violent or suspicious death, medical examiners try to determine both a "cause" and a "manner."

So how does a coroner conclude it was likely a natural death prior to the autopsy? :waitasec:

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Brittany Murphy's Actor Pal Says Family Is "Devastated"
Actor and friend Eric Balfour visited Brittany Murphy’s mother Sharon and husband Simon Monjack Tuesday morning at their Hollywood Hills home and RadarOnline.com captured his sad heartbreak over the actress’ death in an exclusive video interview.

“Brittany was one of my oldest friends and I supported her marriage,” Balfour said. “There’s no easy way through this and I can’t imagine what he’s [Simon] going through right now.”

Balfour is an old friend of Brittany’s noting, “I’ve known her since I was 14 years old.” The two were in a band together in the early ‘90’s called Blessed Soul and had remained good friends over the years. “We just want to make sure we take care of our friends and family…we take care of Sharon and Simon and honor Brittany as best we can.”

When pressed about how the family is holding up Balfour said, “It was devastating. Everyone’s devastated. We’re just trying to be strong for the family. It’s a tragedy…life is fragile.”

Ok, just went through all the posts before mine, and reviewed a lot of the articles published about Brittany's death
Sometimes, I must go on gut feelings after looking at all the facts presented - especially if it is a celebrity death, since there is always so many falsehoods and bogus facts in those cases.
First of all, when the coroner says it is a natural death, and when people say she dies of a cardiac arrest, that just means her heart stopped. In every death, the heart stops. But it sounds good to say that since there is no way of knowing exactly how she dies until all the tox screens and slides are reviewed. At this point, there is absolutely no way for anyone to know that she did or did not die from a particular drug or anything else, unless the cause of death was obvious at the autopsy such as gunshot wound, myocardial infarction, etc - in other words, something that could be physically seen.
Just looking at her and reviewing some of the latest articles, IMO she died of a combination of malnutrition (possible electrolyte imbalance) - recent obvious weight loss, prescription medications - either too many or lethal combination. I believe that she (and her husband) had substance abuse issues - recent behavioral problems, appearing "out of it" at times, some crazy things (husb hospitalized after plane trip, her being fired from film), but it had not gotten to the point of no return. She was still able to appear and interview when necessary.
I agree with the above poster about the hubby being slimy/sleazy appearing, but I really need more info to truly make that judgment. Just because he looks overweight and sloppy perhaps prejudices my thoughts. It seems like he may have been controlling - I only say that because some folks have stated they did not see her much after the marriage. And I know that a husband using substances can influence the wife to use as well, but the decision to use is ultimately the person's.
IMOHO, her poor skinny body and taxed heart gave out, with a combination of factors.
May she rest in peace, she is in a happy spot now with her bubbly self.

“My world was destroyed yesterday,” Monjack told Access Hollywood. Monjack opened up about the details surrounding Murphy’s last moments, saying “[Her Mother] Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then I called 911.”
<<SNOP>>

Regarding that, Monjack said, “I loved what Ashton [Kutcher] wrote on Twitter. It was comforting to me. I couldn’t have said it better.”
The message posted by Ashton read, “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon. see you on the other side kid.”

<<<SNIP>> END

Looking at their photograph and all of the photos I have seen of them.
Britney looks happy with him. (photo at link) :waitasec: To each his own...
So what I think of the mooch does not matter at all.

Yes, to each their own though I must admit him being available for interviews and having a clue what is occuring on twitter the day after his wife unexpectedly drops dead doesn't make me think better of him.

What's sad is that it probably was not difficult to find a doctor willing to write scripts for both benzo's- especially where she comes from ($)! Compared to Ativan, Klonopin has a much longer half life (iirc ativan is something like 10-18 hours where-as Klonopin has a half life of up to like 30-40 hours) so docs tend to take people off the lower half life benzo's when the treatment turns into "long term" rather than "short term" (all benzo's are supposed to only be prescibed short term but that's just not the way life works, ya know?). This way there is less of a chance of break through anxiety, possible withdrawl and (they claim) dependence.

You bet..I think he is a low life. But who am I to say whom she should love? She seems to look happy.
Do I think he is a moooch? I sure DO.
I have a friend who chooses to support her husband and they are very happy (Not for me) but hay...They are happy.

If her Mom and her childhood friend are not raging about him? Why should I?
I started with all my opinions about Britney's husband. But the more I read the more I am not sure I have a right to think she was not happy, she looked happy, and her friend could have avoided any questions about him BUT did NOT.
Maybe she was drugged most of the time, and has no clue what happiness is?
Maybe she always looks happy in front of a camera, but if caught off guard she would not look happy.
I don't know.....I sure hope her Mom gets everything, and I sure hope the autopsy comes in very soon.

This is part that concerns me (for my situation) because I don't want to be on this stuff forever. But the anxiety is a killer and they can't seem to find anything that helps other than the lorazepam. Still haven't tried the clonazepam yet. I was taking the loraz 'as needed' and she told me to take the clonazepam twice a day no matter what. I don't really want to do that but I guess I should do what she says?? I prefer only taking it when I need it. Isn't there less chance of dependence that way? Or maybe it's the other way around. Sorry, way OT.
