The police of the Brussels-West police stopped a vehicle around 17 hours near the West Station in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. During the pursuit, shots were fired at the tires. The driver claimed that there were explosives in the car, but after a DOVO control this proved to be a lie. "There was only a suitcase filled with litter," according to the spokesman of the Brussels parquet.

The suspect made some inconsistent statements. He remains detained and will be questioned further. The man is from Rwanda. He was born in 1981 and was registered in Belgium until 2009.
After that he was registered in Germany. He is not known to the authorities. The intervention of DOVO lasted over two hours. Four hundred people who were within the safety perimeter were not allowed to leave the area durng that time.

Apparently, it all started when the white van with German registration drove through a red traffic light and refused to stop when summoned by the Police.
