Budget cuts may cancel or suspend Casey trial

  • #81
I wonder is the "County Clerk of the Court" an elected, appointed or civil service position in the state of Florida? And given the response from the State Senator, one can't help in wondering how much of the 5% budget cut will be paid for via the removal of Ms. Gardeners salary?

Good point.

This from back in February 2011:

Judge Belvin Perry says budget will have 'devastating effect' on judicial branch

http://www.cfnews13.com/article/news...branch?cid=rss

Perry said the judicial branch of government can be funded with less than 1 percent of the state's budget, which he calls "a drop in the bucket."

I can't see that happening, for one good reason.

The vigilante justice would be swift, and wide spread to include not only Casey, but her parents and anyone that has sided with her.
And, just from judging from the protesters that stood guard outside of the Anthony home when Casey was home under house arrest, it would not take long for a lynch mob to congregate outside Hopespring Drive and wait for them to come out weilding their hammers and garden hoses.

Which, in the end, would only end up costing the tax payers of Orange County and the state of Florida even more money in going after those that would be charged with those crimes.
Plus, she's too much of a flight risk. She may well have gone to California, Puerto Rico, New York, Costa Rica, or Ireland given one more day...

Wow, am I glad I avoided the hysteria this clerk has caused today (work).

I agree 100% with those bringing up the fact that this trial is going to bring in a lot of money for Orlando, Florida. I also think it will bring a lot of money to surrounding areas in Orlando. May, June, July and parts of August are big tourist months for Orlando without a trial that is going to bring a lot more people to Orlando than normal. It may filter off into surrounding areas because of the overflow. Which is a good thing.

Second, it is a heck of a lot cheaper to bring 20 jurors to Orlando than to bring hundreds of witnesses, most who live in Orlando, to another county in Florida. The decision to bring a jury from a different county to Orlando was a great decision and kept the costs down considerably, imo.

Everyone take a deep breath. I have no doubts that jury selection will begin on May 9th, 2011. Most jury duty notices are sent out about 4 weeks prior to the potential juror having to call the night before jury selection is to begin. So my calculation seems to suggest that the potential jurors in Casey's trial will be getting their notices in about 3 weeks. :great:

We know the State has already started sending out their subpeonas. I don't remember what witness (one of Casey's former friends) posted on his facebook that he got his subpeona, and it was weeks ago. So everything is moving forward. The Frye Hearings are next week... and the cadaver dog hearing is next week too. Judge Perry is slated to release his rulings on the previous motions before the weekend. We are moving forward... full speed ahead. This trial will happen on schedule.

This woman should be ashamed of herself for using this trial, with all the emotions already associated with this case, to use as an agenda for her cause?

Anyways, I think I may just need to talk to my doctor to raise my blood pressure medication for this trial. I will be asking for a refill of Lorazapam (sp?) too. :floorlaugh:

I hate to say this, but watching that video of this Clerk of Court appears to me that she has been "giddy" to be "part of this huge case that spans across the country" (as relayed in her email to Perry) and was just ITCHING to have her own moment in "the spotlight of the media"...

Her comments and statements were....hmm..."questionable" to me...

It was a complete Guilt trip that "the money's not there for the jury in this specific case". Why not other cases??? She even admitted she has no power to decide whether to cancel the trial or suspend it.

Our new Governor is cutting our state budget, left and right, no doubt about it. But, the article says proposed legislation from the FL Senate. Can anyone find a link to the actual proposed legislation? I've looked and can't find it.

And, I'm curious why the clerk of courts is talking about her budget being affected by this. Wouldn't the trial come under the SA budget?

I'm curious as to why she's saying it may not happen because she may not have the budget in the 4th quarter when the Casey Anthony trial is clearly slated for the 3rd quarter. The fiscal year starts Oct 1.

1 quarter - Oct Nov Dec
2 quarter - Jan Feb Mar
3 quarter - Apr May Jun
4 quarter - Jul Aug Sep

NO...say it isn't SO....

I am in the mood for a little :boohoo: and a LOT of :back:

"Egg: Meet Face."

Okay, Kentjbkent! Have at it, LOL! You are right as usual. I am wrong ..:innocent:.

I almost did not recognize this woman. Her pic on the Orange County Clerk of Court site is of a much, much younger woman than in this video. She is clearly as old as I am and I am no spring chicken, LOL!

Her eyes and demeanor are alarming. Just my observation. No harm intended.

And interesting that when she DID finally decide to respond, she ran to Channel 13 (isn't that Baez' "circle of friends"?) as opposed to going back to the OS where the story originally ran...

I have a very sneaky suspicion that tomorrow's headlines are going to include something along the lines of "CLerk of Court Resigns Over Anthony Case Flap"...and Lydia Gardner is going to be considered yet another who got so caught up in this case, she forgot her professionalism and her career went into the toilet with so many others associated with the case...

Oh...and I imagine there are a few men at a conference in Tallahassee right now who are NOT "sitting on any rainbows" right now being unable to control this loose cannon....

NOW THIS! would be worth the trip to Florida!

Ms Gardner should set up a paypal account for Florida to try ICA- everyone chip in if you think she's guilty! It would be funded overnight.
Or, they could have a telethon for her trial, I would call in and pledge- would you? :floorlaugh:
