Sorry if already discussed http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5285723/House-horrors-parents-kept-children-night.html
Look at the "thing shirt" photo. Girls 10 & 12. Where are those big arms/hands coming from?? One hand is large, other is crippled and twisted. One girls arm is only as big as bone. Something off to me on that photo. The youngest boy you can tell has problems. Almost as if can't see or needed glasses (in vow renewal photos)

The bigger arm looks like the boy's (man's) behind her. I know he seems small but he is supposed to be 20 something, which is what the arm looks like to me, IMO. I think the twisted hand/arm is girl 10's. They all look gangly to me. My hand (and all my joints) bend in that weird way if I'm not paying attention and it was worse when I was younger, just hyperflexible. Or she is just totally physically awkward which makes sense when you watch the Elvis videos of them trying to dance.

Someone noted how strange it was that the DVDs were in alphabetical order... I bet one of the kids was bored and I could see them doing that just to have something to do. It may have become a little job or purpose for them, IMO.

I would like to know what life was like for J #1 before her siblings were born. There would have been at least 3 years where it was just her and her parents.

In addition to these beautiful children, as much as they are going to need, I hope a fund will be set up for them.

Yes, they will need so much therapy, but their physical restoration needs to happen before that.

I would love to donate to a Hollywood dentist to make this happen. Not for Hollywood, but these kids have never known regular caring or the importance as it relates to their health.

A smile is golden. It is not only is key to health, but it is a window to the soul.

I truly believe certain things start at the basics.

Regarding how the children looked in the photos. I also didn’t notice at first how thin and sickly looking the children were. I think there is an element of hindsight involved here. I also think knowing the children’s actual ages and then matching that up to each child really points out how starved and unhealthy they looked.

Having said all that, there is something else, a real shrewdness at work here. Dressing the children up in these gimmicky ways for these staged photographs seems very clever. The matching clothes, the Dr Suess inspirations, the children all photographed together. It distracts the eye and focuses the viewer on the clothes, the cutesy gimmick, the location, the number of children. It prevents you from paying attention to each individual face.

Given what has come out, these photos are obviously staged, whether to put off relatives, engaging in a kind of fantasy, seeking attention, or a bit of all of it.

When did the family move to California? 2010? I’m wondering the reason why the charges are from that date. From the press conference, it was stated that LE believe there was always neglect and the abuse was happening in Texas, it just intensified over time and particularly in California. That’s why I’m wondering about the 2010 reference.

Also in reference to the 2 year old. The parents have been charged with child abuse in respect to her although not torture as she wasn’t being starved like the rest. When asked about this, the prosecutor (?) said he didn’t know why. I wonder why. I think the two year old, being so much younger, cuter (I’m guessing), and more easily controlled served to bolster up a kind of parental fantasy (like the family photos). For example, LT was reported to have had this child with her often when buying her slice of pizza. She’s a little child, strangers will often smile and comment on babies and little children.

On the other hand, it is my experience that it isn’t unusual for dysfunctional families to have a favourite child (or a scapegoat), usually based on arbitrary and nonsensical reasoning. These positions of favourite children and scapegoated children are then reinforced through a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy by the parents’ own actions. If the favourite child gets better food, nicer things, more attention, better care, then naturally that relationship will be a bit stronger, the child’s behaviour will be better, they will present better in front of others. This reinforces to the parent that this child really is better than the others and thus more deserving of nice treatment, and the nice treatment will continue. (This doesn’t mean that abuse won’t be present just that comparatively speaking it is less.)

On the other hand, The scapegoat will be punished more, neglected more, rejected more, denied more, and blamed for everything. Their behaviour will then become worse, reactive attachment develops, their presentation deteriorates. The parent then feels justified in their abuse of the scapegoated child and will blame them more than ever, and abuse intensifies.

Sunnybree, good insight.
My note from DA's press conference show charges as:
12 counts for torture (both monsters)
1 count for lewd act on child- male monster
7 counts abuse of dependent adult
6 counts abuse or neglect
12 counts for false imprisonment

So I'm not sure any of the charges would include the 2 yr. old. Doesn't seem so.
I believe these charges can be changed as the investigation continues. The number of counts could go higher as
the children become more open about discussing this.

Shelli said she went inside the double wide and found two rooms with six sets of bunk beds like barracks.

'There were like make-shift mattresses on the bed and when you tried to lift them up they would fall apart.'

There was another room like a make-shift school room.

'There were about five or six desks and old beat up chalkboard leaning against the wall.

'The chalkboard was dusty and dirty and there was basic elementary words written on it.'

https://www.google.com/amp/www.dail...in-kids-says-family-left-kitten-dumpster.html

Also, “I was so scared when they picked up the trash, I was hoping they wouldn't find dead bodies, they found several dead animals in the house. It was a tense eight years while they lived next to us.”
and
“After they moved out Baldwin said he found some old pictures in the house and it showed two beds with what looked like a rope hanging on the end of the bed.”

It’s the six counts of abuse - the presser said six counts of abuse against a child, 7 counts of abuse against a dependent adult. Thirteen offspring in total, 7 of whom are adults, 6 children, one count per child. That was my understanding of what was said. At the very least, if the home was as filthy as described, just having to live there is child abuse in the legal sense, as would be exposure to beatings etc even if not the direct target. It just appears, for whatever reason, she was not tortured as per the legal definition.

What did she do all day (or night) while not taking care of her kids??!!

Well, the "David-Louise Turpin" facebook account looks like it was an "official" facebook account that the family could take as proof everything was ok, and so therefore would maybe leave them alone. But Louise had a facebook account under the name "Louise Robinette" didn't she? If so, maybe she lived out a fantasy world on facebook and other online platforms. There was a case of neglect and abuse here in Australia where the mother had 4 or 5 kids, the youngest two being twins, she was a well-loved regular on a parenting forum, on facebook groups, etc etc, and it turns out she left those babies in their cots in their own waste all day long and didn't feed them. The dad worked long hours and would often come home go straight to bed and then get up and go to work, and said he just left the child-rearing to the mum. Didn't even look in on his babies. The older kids fended for themselves. I'm going to go find an article now to share with you all.

These kids need hands on love. Hoping after the uber expensive 24/7 hospital stay, they will land in a similar caring environment....

To me, this is key to their survival.
God bless each and every one of them...

Eta:: now I am wondering if there is any way we can find out ... What is next for these peeps? And will we be able to know they are ok?

O/T: similar case from 2008 Queensland, Australia. Referenced in my earlier post.

http://www.smh.com.au/national/questions-raised-over-twins-neglect-20080617-2sg7.html

The death of 18-month-old twins in a Brisbane home has triggered calls for neighbours to be more aware of potential child neglect.Police found the toddlers' decomposing bodies on Monday night in the cot they shared in a rented house in Sunnybank Hills, up to nine days after they died.Their 30-year-old mother and 28-year-old father remain in custody ahead of an appearance in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.

You could be right, since the mention of $13 million bail for each monster parent would be $1million for EACH child which I recall him saying.

Do engineers have a "night shift"?! Most I know get to choose their hours, work from home if they choose, etc. It's not like clocking in at a factory when you are at that level.
At big companies like John Deere, for instance, it's common to have people working around the clock. John Deere (which I'm only using as a comparison) has not only factory workers on the night shift, but IT people, nurses, and others. So I'm guessing that other giant companies do as well.

Several children have what looks to me like the same shape of imperfection above the bony prominence of their foot. I suppose it could be a shadow, but I am wondering if the spots were caused by being restrained.

There's an article I just saw online this am, I believe Fox news, that was discussing the next steps for the children. It mentioned
in severe cases of child endangerment (such as this one) authorities act quickly to getting kids into foster or even adoptive homes. Sometimes authorities wait until parents' sentences are handed down. I was surprised adoption was so quickly being discussed. Although the authorities mentioned it would be difficult, if not impossible, to keep the
siblings together in the future.

I agree with you both. I had a friend from ages 6-14 who was horribly abused. All us kids in the neighborhood knew it. I remember sitting on the curb with her at age 7 or 8 and saying, "Do you know what child abuse is? You are being abused." I mean she had whip marks on her and spoke to some of us kids about the abuse.

Strangely, not one of us kids told a parent or anyone. Although it was obvious to the adults that the parents were weird and super strict and then slowly began to isolate her. The girl was always being punished. She was always grounded. It got longer and longer and more and more frequent until she just stopped being allowed out at all. Eventually they took her out of school and put her in a private school, I think. But the same kind of strange thing as here- we stopped seeing her during the day but neighbors saw her forced to do calisthenics on the lawn at 3:00 a.m. and yard work.

When I got to junior high, I hadn't seen her in about a year. I actually ditched school one day and went to the other junior high to see if she had been enrolled there (because that's what her parents were telling neighbors). None of the kids heard of her.

When I started ninth grade I finally hopped the fence and looked through her window. I could see in. It looked like someone was living in there. I recall a potty type chair (we were 14). And stuff i can't recall that made it seem like she was eating all her food in there.

I called a child abuse hotline. (Still didn't tell my parents!) They sent an officer out who spoke to me and walked with me to the house. I showed them which room. This was after telling them everything about the abuse and how she disappeared. The officer (female) looked in.

The next thing I recall was it was now night time, and officers (she had called for back up) had been waiting for hours. The father and mother came home but went right inside. (I don;t remember if the girl was with them). The police knocked on the door and ordered them to come out. The dad opened the door with a gun in his hand and the lady cop de-gunned him as they pile-drived him or something. It was awesome to everyone (by that time the whole neighborhood was out on the street trying to see what would happen) that it was a female cop who took the lead because the father was a real creepy, stern, patriarch and misogynist.

In the end, she was located and put in foster care for a couple years. Our family got to take her out a couple times during that. But her parents got her back and they all left the state. Never heard from her again.

I had nightmares about her for years, about me going into her room, where she sits in the dark with graffiti all over the walls that she had written, (I don't know if that was true in real life. I don;t think so) and she turns her head toward me and she's insane. But she tells me, "Run. He's coming."

I had that dream several times, with variations. Scary as hell.

Her case was nothing like this one. Not close to as bad. My long point is that even though she went to public schools, and in the middle there one private school, none of the schools tracked her when she stopped going, to my knowledge. I mean kids can and are yanked form schools and kept at home all the time in these abusive situations. So what can be done about that?

How brave and mature of you to think about this child and to commit to acting on your knowledge.

The only thing I’d quibble about here is comparing one awful set of child abuse to another. How trauma is experienced depends on the person, not the event. What we might think of as mild case of abuse can be life threatening traumatic for the child. Conversely, we can describe a case as horrendous, but the victim seems particularly resilient.

Everyone comes to a terrible event with a different makeup.

(Hi, long-lost sis)

The consciousness of guilt reason for planting the sod is that they didn't want to draw attention to themselves and their "home." There had been a recent crack down in their neighborhood of folks who didn't tend to their lawns.

[Back at you, :happydance: from RickSis]

Okay, yes, now that makes sense.

Unless the 2 year old is named Jane, the Turpins have no daughters with that name. An earlier poster in maybe the 2nd thread posted an obituary for David Turpin's grandmother where David commented and listed all the kids in order. This was before the baby was born.

I doubt the sister, Elizabeth Jane Flores, has any credibility. She's definitely a liar in my eyes. She claims she had no contact in recent years but they were friends on Facebook. Now, this is completely MOO based on what I've seen, heard, and read but I believe that Louise Turpin was closer with her sister Elizabeth than she was to her other siblings. I think she and Elizabeth are close in age whereas the others are younger and were not as close to her. The other brother and sister seem more credible. I can't remember the brother's name but the sister is Teresa Robinette. I believe them when they say they had no clue about anything, I don't believe Elizabeth.

Here's an interesting but short video I found of her brother and sister Teresa speaking about Louise and David Turpin's early life.

I've only started down the rabbit hole of this case but your post about the siblings made me think of something I heard on the news yesterday about Louise and her siblings. I don't remember who said it, but it was along the lines of we thought she [Louise] was the most stable, [mentally] healthy of them ( her siblings). Those aren't exact words but something like that. Ans it was a very quick aside like comment, but a very interesting one imo. Maybe it was s friend of Louise and her siblings from when they were young or a family friend. Anybody else catch that?
