They entered not guilty pleas.
There will more than likely be a trial.

IMO

I hope their victims will be strong enough. I’m not going to call them children anymore. That gives the monsters the title of parent. They don’t deserve that title. IMO

Maybe you hate it, I love it. I read it everyday.

I'll second that. They are quick to report, accuret, and thorough, and usually have more depth than other coverage.

Sorry, quoting again.

I wonder if this is based on anything they have been told by the survivors? Or is this just procedure?

Seems to me that LE would be remiss if they didn’t.

  • #885
Also, interesting that they said the DNA testing is so they can confirm the survivors are related. Not so they can confirm the survivors are LT & DT's children but to confirm they are related to one another?

It's probably just a strange way of writing it that the DM decided to use, rather than anything to look in to but it just stood out to me.

I agree. I hope they at least use dogs to check all the places they have lived.

I think that going to two separate foster homes could work. If you think about what is available individually in terms of home health care nurses coming in, between the 6 or 7 of them in one home, they could conceivably have a home health care nurse there half the day every day. Additionally, they could send in a team of maybe two mental health professionals at least a couple of times a week, and occupational therapists.

If the state prepares for this properly, a foster home could actually have help in some form for half or more of each day. They should also probably immediately set up a situation where someone comes in to relieve the foster parents so they can go out and get a break. I know there are people and organizations who do this for other caregivers of the elderly and dementia patients because round the clock care takes its toll.

This can work, and everything that can be done to set up the foster situation to succeed should be done.

I actually hope that some of the health care professionals who are currently caring for them are allowed to continue contact, and perhaps even shift their hospital duties for a time to move into the home health care roll temporarily until these kids are more adjusted.

I don't understand if this woman was such a disney freak, why would she live in the filth and stench of feces and not take a cue from cinderella and make the children clean? Even if it was confined to the children's living space the smell alone would be unbearable throughout the whole house and from the pictures it seemed everywhere was filthy.

She hid in her clean room watching Disney videos. IMO

As heartwarming a post as this sounds, it actually a lot more complex. If they befriend cootie kid, they become a cootie kid. Do we really want to insist out kids ostracize themselves to make up for a lack of adult responsibility? Is that fair? Is it healthy? Peer aceptence, friendship Is a huge deal for children, being kind is virtue we all hope to instill in our kids, but self sacrifice needs to be warrented, lest it border on pathology in itself.

Imo, it's not this third grade peer group that failed this child. They were behaving like third graders.

Oh when I read about this episode, it brings back memories. Mine was in 2nd grade. Also had a "cootie kid"
but it wasn't me. She was very, very poor, very, very dirty. Visible cooties in her matted hair. My negligent mother warned me to never get near cootie kid in my class. Never, or I would catch whatever.

One day teacher told us to slide all our desks together next to each other so we could watch a slide show. This was
years before movies or videos. I hesitated moving my desk as cootie kid was directly next to me. After a bit teacher
came over to tell me again to move my desk. Not realizing I should not speak out loud, I calmly told teacher, my mother
told me to never get near or touch "her" who was sitting next to me and listening. I was given a seat in back of room. Sadly, I did not know any better. Yes, normal, young child behavior, IMO.

House of Horrors investigators 'will bring in cadaver dogs to look for the remains of MORE children and order DNA testing on the couple's victims'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5293719/cadaver-dogs-aid-House-Horrors-investigation.html

From link.

'Their brains are still adapting, they're still forming, they're still developing their understanding of the world,' she said of the younger children. 'But someone who has experienced these things for 20-some years of their life will have a lot of learning to do about what relationships are like, what the world is like, how they're supposed to be treated.'

They are not always accurate. I read it for a quick update, but check other sources to verify facts. It's best not to believe everything they print.

I believe the 2 year old was born in April of 2015, based upon a photo from April 2016 where they are celebrating the baby's birthday.

I have seen 3 vow renewal pictures supposedly from 2011, 2013, 2015. I think the one with the baby is 2015 and the one where the wedding dress is different is from 2013 (two of the photos have the same dress but different hair colors). That coincides with the Vegas ‘circus’ picture where she looks pregnant (I posted the enlarged cropped section a while back). That picture along with the 2010 announcement that they were adding to their family supports the strong possibility that she was pregnant in 2010 and 2013. I believe those pregnancies ended in late term miscarriages or still births.

I know we don’t have confirmation of the 2010 ‘pregnancy’ but I have no doubt she was pregnant in the 2013 circus picture.

A not guilty plea is pretty standard initially. Once all the evidence is disclosed, I will not be surprised if they accept a “deal” which would avoid a trial and the possibility of an even longer sentence. Of course, a plea deal has to be offered first and it may not be. As long as they never get out of prison and their children don’t have to testify, I’ll be happy.

And whatever $$ they have is given to the kids.... every single last penny! No $$ in their jail accounts - let them eat prison food - no goodies and no extras!

I think the monsters bought them. I think they are so evil that they bought those toys to taunt the kids with. It makes me sick to think about it. You have to be really evil for that. Obviously, they are.

Naw. I think the kids played with toys, watched tv, showered more than YEARLY,
Possibly didn't march for four hours, or have several dead animals, nor were made to stare at pies while starving to death.

They were abused, neglected for sure, but I am not buying that every single thing we are hearing is fact.

And why would these charges be dropped? Because of the guilty plea?

Possibly a pleas bargain? They agree to plea guilty to some charges in exchange for the others dropped. Most court cases don't go to trial because of pleas bargaining. I was thinking this morning and it hit me that the charges against the parents as a whole are very damming. But in court each count will be have to be proven separately based on it's own evidence. I was involved in a case that became national news, (Nitro). A man running a canine training center and let all the dogs starve to death over months. He let them lay there dead until someone reported it. The dogs were sent to him from all over the country so the owners had no clue what was happening. It was one of the most horrific animal cases in the area at the time with a slew of charges. When it went to court each charge was dissected and most were dismissed for this reason or that. He ended up with a slap on the wrist and was told he could no longer have dogs (which he did anyway). During the court hearings organizations were outside the courthouse every day in support of the animals and after the outcome they protested. That is a concern to me in this case. It's pure horror as a whole but the case won't be viewed as a whole in court. I seriously hope there are more charges coming to bolster the current charges or that there is solid evidence (pictures, etc) to back each charge. A plea bargain that dismisses some charges while ensuring a long jail sentence can be a safety net for cases like this. Especially given the length of time involved and the number of victims. This has got to be a nightmare for the prosecutor. Not knowing the evidence this is just something that popped in my head. I could be totally off base.

It sounds like the medical support team are providing a safe environment for these kids to regain their health, but I agree with previous posters that even the experts have no way of measuring these kids' intellectual potential at this point. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean you don't have the ability to understand it once it's explained. For example, the earliest IQ tests had a socio-economic bias so children from poorer families were penalized for not recognizing items like refrigerators etc. Their situation reminds me in a way of Helen Keller - how do you communicate about something you've never seen or heard or if you don't have the words to describe it? You can't unless you develop a language and a context.
These children are lethargic from malnutrition and terror, plus they have an extremely limited concept of everyday life. I think the people caring for them will have such a rewarding time seeing these children blossom, gaining weight and gradually finding their place in the world. I would wish a fairly sheltered life for the older adult/ children, but I am quite optimistic that the younger children should slowly be able to adjust to everyday life. More than anything, I think their IQ will improve every time it is tested over the next few years.

Very curious regarding what is in those 2 safes. What were they protecting from the squalor???? Definitely not the children.

“Pieces of wood” described as bed frames is interesting.
