they used a device and they were behind a barrier in case of explosives I assume.

I don't think she died outside the car. There was almost no blood. I am thinking they pulled her body out after the fact.

It was a can of baby formula and a can of baby cereal. Not odd at all for a 6 month old.

With social services. And it sounds like the brother-in-law who spoke with the news is planning to adopt her.

she was always covered and at family gatherings the men & women stayed separate. Which doesn't sound too normal to me for America. Saudi Arabia yes, but not here.

Fwiw..

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...-in-canada-explain-why-they-wear-a-niqab.html

"A recent University of Michigan survey asked people in six Muslim-majority countries across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia to choose how they preferred women to dress in public.

A woman covering her hair and ears in public, but not her face, was the preferred option, chosen by 55 per cent of people in Tunisia, 52 per cent in Egypt, 46 per cent in Turkey, 44 per cent in Iraq, 32 per cent in Lebanon, and 24 per cent in Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia was the only country to overwhelmingly choose the niqab as the best clothing option for women, at 63 per cent.

Forty-nine per cent of respondents in Lebanon, 32 per cent of Turks, and 15 per cent of Tunisians said it was preferable for women to be uncovered completely.

High percentages of people in Tunisia (56 per cent), Turkey (52 per cent), Lebanon (49 per cent) and Saudi Arabia (47 per cent) also said it should be up to women to decide what to wear."

ISIS and the Lonely Young American

Alex, a 23-year-old Sunday school teacher and babysitter, was trembling with excitement the day she told her Twitter followers that she had converted to Islam.

For months, she had been growing closer to a new group of friends online — the most attentive she had ever had — who were teaching her what it meant to be a Muslim. Increasingly, they were telling her about the Islamic State and how the group was building a homeland in Syria and Iraq where the holy could live according to God’s law.

I found this very informative and interesting when I read it a couple months ago.
Thank you for the link popsicle. The grooming process is disturbingly similar to the tactics used by pedophiles. It's scary because I believe that so many vulnerable youngsters could fall for this, especially young Muslim Americans teens looking for their identity. I am scared!

I kind of think social services may pass on brother in laws offer! I think most of the planet is having credibility issues with being clueless that dad was going to go down in hsitory as the perp of the biggest terrorist attck since 9-11! just mu notion

Lordy. Ever been to an Orthodox Jewish service?
Nope, but when I attended church with my grandma as a little girl, if my mom didn't put a kerchief on my head Grandma would put a Kleenex on my head. [emoji20] I am still traumatised.....

What I find shocking, though frankly I don't know why, is how absolutely uninformed so many in this country are about the very origins of this country, or even world history in general. A common point of reference is only as long as the individual has been alive, though for some it may only be as long as their last text message. It's like the world only started when they came into it and then that world revolves around them (or should).

Learning about what has happened in decades and centuries and millenia past, and gaining the perspective of the 10,000 ft and 30,000 ft view (i.e. a wider and larger perspective) is enlightening, I've found.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. I haven't been able to get into the spirit myself but I have enjoyed reading along.

ETA: FOXNews used Leonard Cohan's Hallelujah for the background music to their tribute to survivors tonight. It certainly felt surreal

An excellent book to read is: Why I am Not a Muslim by Ibn Warraq. Written by a former Muslim. I borrowed it from my local library, and read it before 9/11. After 9/11, the book disappeared from the library. Too politically incorrect? That was quite an eye-opener. So was the book.

It is still available from Amazon, and I think I am going to read it again.
I may just do the same. I feel like I need to understand what I am feeling about this. This issue is not going away. I don't want to sound conservatively paranoid, I want to form my opinions based on knowledge not fear iykwim.

Do we have any mapmakers here?

Thanks AmyPond!

If that is correct and I have the right address to the Redlands apartments, it's about a 14-18 minute drive from one to the other.
I posted the above on the first page, ninja. I didn't bring over the actual map, but that is the drive time between the 2.

Jewish women are held in very high regard. The reason Jewish women cover their heads is for modesty, to protect the man from being drawn to them and possibly committing adultry. Men and women sit separately at synagogue so they can focus on prayer and not be distracted with each other.

Jewish men are taught and encouraged to worship their wives and put them on a pedestal. Jewish women are considered holier than men and can be the cause of happiness and success or failure and misery. FYI

She had a fiancee visa. Her background check was a fingerprint. It is very easy to get this type of visa. Then marry within 90 days of entry & you are a citizen. There is no such thing as a thorough background check when the country you are from does very little record keeping.

You're not a citizen upon marriage on a K1 visa. After entry on a K1 you marry, and after marriage you start the process to apply for permanent residency. That takes quite a while, I'm talking months. Then they become a permanent resident with conditions. After 2 years you can apply to become a PR without conditions. Then, after you've been a permanent resident (some people still call it having a 'green card') for at least three years (if married, five years if not) you can start the application process for citizenship. All of this takes years and costs thousands of dollars.

Here is a good link that explains the process and clicks through to the other processes (removal of conditions etc).
