2 Charged With Murder Of 84-Year-Old Woman Found Unconscious In Pechanga Casino Bathroom

One of the suspects, Kimesha Williams, is the sister of L.A. Clippers star Kawhi Leonard.

TEMECULA (CBSLA) — Two women were arrested and charged with murder and robbery in connection with the death of an 84-year-old woman in Pechanga Resort Casino.

On Aug. 31 at 8 a.m., deputies responded to Pechanga Resort Casino located at 45000 Pechanga Parkway in Temecula to investigate a report of a female adult who was found unconscious in a bathroom.




39-year-old Candace Townsel (L) 35-year-old Kimesha Williams (R) from Moreno Valley were arrested and charged with robbery and murder.

Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a female adult, later identified as 84-year-old Afaf Anis Assad of Long Beach, who appeared to be the victim of an assault.

Assad was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries which she later died from on Sept. 4.

I will try to access the court records. My guess is this case will takes years to come to trial. This is California, and high-profile murder cases like this can take 5-7 years before justice is done. The court system is totally broken in this state.

Two Moreno Valley women were sentenced to life in prison without parole on Friday, April 21, for killing an 84-year-old Long Beach woman who was found unconscious with a cracked skull on the floor of a Pechanga Resort Casino bathroom in 2019.

Kimesha Monae Williams, 39, and Candace Tai Townsel, 42, who both have long rap sheets for theft, were convicted in February at Southwest Justice Center in French Valley of murder, robbery and elder abuse, along with a sentencing enhancement of committing a robbery during a murder, after a monthlong trial.

Their sentences for robbery and elder abuse were stayed under the legal tenet that those crimes were part of a single act, the murder of Afaf Assad.

“This has been a long, painful journey through the criminal court justice system,” Assad’s daughter, Mary Assad, said in the victim impact statement she read to the court. “I still can’t believe my mother was the victim of a violent crime. … Part of me died in that hospital room with her.

What a cruel act, to smash the skull of an elderly woman in a casino bathroom just to get her winnings.
They can think about what they did until they die of old age in prison.
Their high profile legal team was ultimately useless.
