Salgado, 48, entered his not-guilty plea Thursday morning, KFSN reported. He is scheduled to return to court next month and remains in jail on no bail.
Douglas Foster, Salgado's court-appointed attorney, declined to comment.

CA currently has a Governor imposed moratorium prohibiting DP and district attorneys in some counties including LA no longer consider DP an option. Merced County is obviously different.
Washington was also under a Governor moratorium up until 2018 when the Supreme Court's decision eliminated it entirely, converting the sentences for the state’s eight death row inmates to life in prison without release.
Washington Senate passes bill to end death penalty
The measure would remove capital punishment as a sentencing option for aggravated murder and mandate instead a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.

One thing I did notice that I hadn’t previously is they’re being housed at different facilities. For obvious reasons I think that’s for the best. JMO
Next court date isn’t until 07 March 2023 for both of them.

A hearing was scheduled for June 14 to hear the motion to consolidate the two cases.
There have been family members of the victims present in court for every hearing.
