Whoever the deceased people are, and for whatever the reason for their deaths, I feel so sad for them
They had lives, they were children of someone, friends of someone, maybe parents of children.

Their family and friends will feel the loss.

The silver van is what has me confused. It is apparently undamaged (no bullet holes). So, what is it doing there? Did it belong to one of the six? Was it traveling/following the suv? Did it belong to the shooter (murder/suicide)? Was it already there just abandoned (unlikely)?

Also, if the killer isn't there, how did he/she/they leave? And, why leave it behind?

Curious who reported the "welfare check" to LE and what time the call came in?

In google-walking the intersection of US 395 on the map and looking down Shadow mountain Road, you can see the houses in the distance. Any chance the caller heard all that gunfire. Perhaps saw the two vehicle's headlights and fires set and no movement of the vehicles with the lights on afterwards from the scene so called it in to LE to check welfare of persons in those vehicles? Was it dark enough out at that time for the headlights and fires to stand out?

Alternatively, did the 6th individual manage to get away/escape injured and call it in, but succumbed to their own injuries as well?

Not sure I’m doing this right with the attachment but can anyone tell me what all of the random turn offs are on this road? I’m not familiar with dessert terrain and there are so many side roads that go nowhere. It’s kind of fascinating for how deserted it is. Thanks!

I noted that too and all the roads to nowhere are named. My guess would be, at one time the area was slated for a development which failed. Like California City, only that was on a much larger scale, look it up - it's an interesting read.

I agree, but they would have to drive out that road through the scene to go anywhere/get anything on the other hand.

I'd rather have it gone next time I was heading out rather than driving into/through it and leaving my tracks midst crime-scene.

The media is reporting Lessing Ave and Shadow Mountain Rd.

MSM is reporting the shooting was NEAR Lessing Ave & Shadow Mountain Rd. Near. Since the other dirt road doesn't have a name, Lessing Ave & Shadow Mountain Rd is as accurate a description as MSM can give, which is why they said NEAR. The vertical road in that map is Lessing Ave, I just didn't have time to label it on the map.

Decca Miller, who works at Wild Desert Tours a few miles east of the 395, said there is only one home and several trails in the area of the slayings. She said the few people who live in the vicinity are aware of the crime but don’t remember seeing the six people that day.

The dirt grid roads to no where can have several sources:

- As one member stated, the area may of been slated for development at one time.

- The area may of hosted military training in WWII for tank and desert warfare. Alot of "down range" training encampments would feature dirt roads of the military precision, a lot of semi permanent "advanced tent" type buildings, maintenance yards, supply depots- but few if, any, permanent buildings.

- The area may of been slated for the resettlement of dust bowl migrants. Migrants were largely share croppers and looked down upon in LA proper. So.... LA proposed settling many in the high desert. Hundreds of of small farm homes were built in some areas. In other areas, the project tanked before the homes could be built.

As a side note, OK and Arkansas accents are common in some small Mojave towns. This usually leads to the town having more Pentecostal type churches instead of the sedate Catholic and Methodist churches of the previous Anglos settlers.

Made the call then died of his wounds.

That’s where I pinpointed it too. The intersecting road is one north of Wrigley Rd., and two north of Shadow Mountain Rd. It turns to Mountain Rd. going west from Lessing and Vancouver Ave. to the east (ETA: kinda ). The white van is on Lessing. JMO
