A 6-year-old boy died at a hospital Friday morning after being shot on the 55 Freeway in Orange, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At the time of the shooting, the victim was sitting in the back seat of a silver Chevrolet sedan as his mother was driving northbound on the 55, said CHP Officer Florentino Olivera.

The shooter, who remained at large, was said to be driving a newer model white sedan, possibly a Volkswagen wagon sedan, according to CHP. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on the 55 from Chapman Avenue. A description of the suspect was not immediately available.

"If your vehicle has a dashcam, we're asking you, please provide that video," he said. "If you were driving by, you saw something that was not right, call it in -- even if it wasn't something major."

The Kindergartener was being driven to school by his mother when the shooting happened.

Alexis Cloonan, the boy's sister, said Aiden told his mother, "Mommy, my tummy hurts" after he was shot, according to a Fox 11 Los Angeles livestream of a Friday news conference. His mother saw blood on the boy's stomach and noticed him start to turn blue.

The boy's uncle, John J. Cloonan III, said at the press conference that photos show a bullet shot through the truck* and hit Aiden.

You don't even have to give the finger and they'll shoot at you. It can be possibly you're not sure of an exit. They feel ya cut them off? Somebody dies. It happened to Julie Eberley recently as her hubby drove them to Hilton Head. No finger. No cursing. Poor lady is dead.

Even as a pedestrian. Rules don't apply. They got the big vehicle too bad for you their stop sign don't count.

BTW, FWIW, I did not see the presser, but saw Daily Mail pic w caption:* "A single bullet hole can be clearly seen following the shooting on Friday morning" shows bullet hole close to license plate on car, a Chevrolet Sonic. bbm

IDK what yr car this pic shows or what yr car the Mother was driving, but not a truck.

Family offers $50K reward for information leading to arrest in killing of 6-year-old boy on 55 Freeway – Orange County Register

Hopefully, this will encourage some drivers to review their dash cams and come forward if they saw something.

Relatives of a kindergartener killed in a road-rage shooting on the 55 Freeway in Orange announced a $50,000 reward Sunday, May 23 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect.

The money is to come from crowdfunding efforts, including a GoFund Me page that raised more than $150,000 in donations over the weekend to help the family of 6-year-old Aiden Leos with funeral and other expenses.

A separate GoFundMe campaign was created by relatives Sunday for people who specifically want to donate money to help identify Aiden’s killer.

Regardless of how much the new page raises, the reward will be covered, said Carla Lacy, Aiden’s step-grandmother, referring to the funds already collected.

The boy was riding in a booster seat while on his way to school Friday, May 21, when he was fatally wounded by a bullet believed to have come from a car described as a white Volkswagen station wagon.​

I am thinking that DMV data mining could be helped by the following:

- 55 in Orange County at 0815 is strongly local commuters and not out of area drivers. Of course, the "local area" is huge and densely populated.

- Volkwagons are not that common, and I think station wagons in general have fallen out of favor to first minivans, then cross overs type designs.

- The drivers may well be tempted to abandon the car. If the car is late model, they are going to owe payments which they are no longer inclined to make. So..... mine for local Volkswagon station wagons and late model ones, and for one who does not make a June payment.

DMV will probably not have records of cars with loans, but...... mega advanced data commercial data mining software used by car dealers, loan officers etc. might. Could their data be cross referenced with DMV records?

agree, and do you know if that is a tolled HOV lane? if they were in the HOV lane, they either had a transponder, or the cams got the plates for a citation

Expanding on your idea, it might be able to trace the likely point the car entered into the freeway, then moved into the HOV lane- which is usually done at first opportunity.

So, ideally, car is in toll lane and they have a transponder. Identify where they entered the toll lane, then look at the ramps between that toll lane and the previous toll lane (for a moment, presume they did not miss a chance to get into a toll lane).

Then.... hit all commercial and red light type cameras around the likely on ramp possibilities for the car. Here's hoping that they have a toll tag!
