Found Deceased CA - Alex Holden, 25, Sacramento, 31 Dec 2019

Since they don't have him or his phone, I'm assuming the info about the text came from the friend in Missouri, who simply said that they'd received a text at 3:30 a.m. from Alex and no one reporting thought that through. So more likely 1:30 a.m., and if we accept the current scenario, from the apartment.

Wouldn't he have noticed his phone was nearly dead when he sent the text? Mine starts warning me at 15%. His girlfriend had made the comment that his phone died right after he left the apartment at 2:30.

There have been MANY comments locally--by searchers, by concerned local people--that there's a way to track both the AirPods and an iPhone with a dead battery (I've seen the link to wherever provided several times), but I haven't seen a response as to why neither has been/can be done.

Totally my opinion, but does anyone else find the "carrying a passport instead of a drivers license" to be, well, odd? I wonder if people who've known him a long time could verify that he always did that. Or if he just recently started doing that.
iPhones notify you at 20% then again at 10% (I think I get a 5% also but I usually never let it get that low) and you can put it on battery saver. You can’t do anything with the phone unless you acknowledge the battery pop up. So if the battery was dying when he texted he had to have known.

Just my thought for today.

Ever since I posted the photo of Northgate Blvd. (#183 above) I've been bothered by that. Cutting over onto Northgate at 3 or 3:30 in the morning, little to no lights, and that stretch is a "nothing" stretch coming from town--meaning no one will know if you gun it and do 70. Anyone walking that, whether they'd been drinking or not would be at huge risk.

I wonder if they've really searched that area, or if they're just sticking to the trail itself?

Here's a picture of Northgate Blvd. looking towards Midtown. The creek--actually Natomas East Main Drainage Canal--is to the left, and the Jedediah Smith Bike Trail is next to it. Logically, he would have cut off of the Sacramento Northern Trail and switched to Northgate Blvd. well before this used Northgate to cross the canal. Then he would have gone west to get to South Natomas.

But that's speculation on my part. The water that seems to be on the other side of the bike trail is rain runoff--this picture was from March 2019. The canal is only for overflow and the level rises and falls thru the year.

Really nice to see what it looks like...gives a great perspective of things. Actually a nicer area then I imagined.

The American River joins with the Sacramento River on a direct path to the Pacific Ocean. We occasionally get whales that have come up from the ocean--it is not a creek or small river by any means.

no it is not! its a popular floating and boating location and leads to the deltas where u can actually houseboat.

I'm sorry about your friends :(

This is reminding me of Paul Kochu. I hope that this case turns out differently and Alex just needed some time away. Reading the comments about a body recovered in the water in winter, I do believe it to be true that it takes at least a month to surface.

When I say creek, I mean the creek that follows Arden Garden Connector, which he would have to cross either on foot or via Northgate to get to the Natomas area. Here is the picture again:

His building doesn't appear to really have an inside other than the apartments and stairs going to the second floor units. These units exit to the outside:

Not really. The cold water extends the amount of time a body stays under, and then consider the American river mixes with a different water density when t hits the Sacramento River. Bodies tend to take around 3-4 weeks t surface. If I go look at other cases where a young guy was found in water, the average is about 1 months.

Found after LE saw him fall through train bridge into the river on CCTV, about 1 month later
Like I said, a weird phenomenon.
Thank you so much for doing the research to support that, even though you did it to show that in cold months, a body in water takes about a month to surface or be found.

Anyone know how long a check of his passport activity takes? I think the media said this was happening, and still pending, on Monday. And now it’s Thursday. I would have thought it’s pretty easy and quick to check passport activity on a missing person (?).

I’m curious if someone knows how this would be done. I did a little Googling and got the impression that there’s no repository of data regarding where and when someone travels with a US passport. Anyone know?

“SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — As the search for Alex Holden continues in Sacramento, California a group of people in the Ozarks is hosting a fundraiser to help with his family’s financial resources.

[SBM]

The benefit is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 12, at Vito’s Kitchen.

It will start at 11 a.m. Sunday and wrap up at 7 p.m.

The group will be making simple pizzas in exchange for a suggested donation of $100.

Organizers say it will probably be the worst and most expensive pizza you will ever buy but the money will go a long way in helping find Alex Holden.”

If he wears contacts, I wonder if he brought stuff for contacts with him. Or any other toiletries to spend the night somewhere else.

IMO very little information about his state of mind, and circumstances under which he left the apartment, have been released. Perhaps the family finds it unnecessary for public knowledge and I respect that. However, it sure seems like it would be helpful for the public to have a better idea of where to search and what could have happened if a little more was released.

For example, was he angry? Did he threaten self-harm? Had he threatened self harm in the past? Was he extremely drunk? Did he seem disoriented? Did the friend in Natomas know to expect him? (it appears no because AH was not reported missing until he missed the next evening’s event). Lots of missing pieces.

That might be what he would normally do in a rational state of mind. He is missing, so we know the trek was not usual and he may not have been totally rational. The canal appears to have dry spots/debris so if he is in there I'd think he would have been found if anyone has bothered searching it.

Trying to compare past perp behavior is a bit tough in this case because so many Sacramento homicides are domestic or gang related and the bodies found in the open very quickly, which further enforces my hunch that Alex s alive or a victim of misadventure.

“There was a piece of bad news regarding the official investigation: detectives are unable to gain full access to Alex’s accounts, devices, and information because they are not conducting a criminal investigation and Alex is a legal adult. The lack of evidence of foul play or criminal activity means law enforcement is hampered in what they can and cannot access.

Police were given a tip from a worker at a Subway restaurant that a man matching Alex’s description came into their store on Exposition Boulevard. The worker said that the man was wearing different clothing and had two black eyes. He tried to use a card to pay for the food but the card was declined. By the time the employee’s co-worker approached and noted the resemblance to Holden, the man had left the store.”
