Found Deceased CA - Alex Holden, 25, Sacramento, 31 Dec 2019

Me too. Any time there’s a case like this, I look for water near the location on Google Earth.

Alcohol and water don’t mix, atleast not in this way.

That river is all sorts of problematic.

I think @MassGuy hit it on the head with this post.

Alcohol + Late night text + Emotional conversation + river. I hope they’re concentrating search efforts on and around the river. MOO

He stated that he was going to follow the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail, which he'd run before during marathons. In the daytime. With lots of people.

Instead he left to walk it at 2:30 a.m.

I used to walk that trail, but only when a large male walking companion went with me. And only in broad daylight. Homeless people more than once came out of the bushes and headed straight towards us. Compared to them the coyotes were preferable.

I'm praying for him and his family and that he's found safe.

Link to the bike trail: Sacramento Northern Bikeway | California Trails | TrailLink

yes, i find the 230 am walk or run along a river trail occupied by the unhoused pretty strange. makes me think drugs. where are you Alex? i hope he is ok.

How large is the apartment building? Could he have been mugged when on the stairs/in the elevator/leaving the building and was hidden? Have basement, storage rooms and bins etc been searched?
How do we know that he went home? There is no surveillance footage of him anywhere in the surrounding area whatsoever. I do not think that he ever went home, and I do not think that everyone is being transparent. I sincerely hope that the PI/LE is basing their investigation off of the last person to see Alex leaving the bar, and have identified cameras that would have captured him leaving the bar (what direction he was headed) so that he could be tracked that way. Also, why no mention of where the phone’s last location was documented to be prior to 2:30? Why won’t friends/family/the insiders of Reddit answer the questions of the possibility of drugs/substances? They have promptly answer just about every other question posted on the thread, but continue to disregard questions of drug usage.

If he arrived back home at 11:30, I wonder if that's when he woke up his girlfriend. An "emotional" conversation for 3 hours seems like a long time before he left. I wonder what kind of conversation this was. A break up, an impending one?

If bad news, I'm with those who say check the river.

Just a quick Norteno comment. the Northern Structure took over from the NF around 1990ish, there were big riots in CDCR back then over it. You will never see an NF tattoo on any young guys. they do still have the huelga bird but it will not say NF on it, it will say NS. either way its concerning that he was taking this walk through NorthGate at night.

where is Alex? :(

One possible route: Alex Holden - Google My Maps

Some concerning areas:

1. Entrance to Sacramento Northern Bike Way from behind the casino. Connects to train trestle bridge. Both go over the American River.
View attachment 223489

2. Once across the river, the trail cuts through a wooded park and under a couple bridges. Probably extremely unsafe, poorly lit and out of sight.
View attachment 223492

3. If he connected to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail to take the more direct route to his assumed destination, he would have had to cut over to Northgate Blvd to cross over the creek OR he could have tried to cross it and walk up the hill. Where put the marker is only a logical crossing since it is where the trail leads and seems shallow.

4. This entire area is a gang zone run by Varrio Northgate which is part of the Norteno syndicate.

Not implying whatsoever that GF involved, only that the conversation was probably an argument and he planned on sleeping elsewhere. Based on the hour, maybe he was asked to leave.

Any reports AH was drinking or intoxicated when he left the apartment. Intoxication and water sources are so often accidental and deadly.

MOO

I'm wondering if they even may have argued that she was jealous he went out late without her. Who knows.

  • #127
Not even if you had been in an argument and needed to blow off steam? AH is a marathon runner; I don't think 2 miles would be much to him. MOO

it was 11.

In my last job I spent many years interviewing people that stated they had had fraud committed against them, plus training new employees to do the same.

I had one overriding mantra: People tell you what they want you to know. It might be the whole story. It might be true. Or it might just be what they want the story to be.

More than any other case I've followed here, this one feels like a "this is what I want to you to know."

I hope for the families sake a bit more comes out--at least so they can find out one way or the other.

ITA. The closest case this reminds me of re: “this is what I want you to know” is Timothy Cunningham. Maybe the Tyler Davis case too...

I’m glad this case seems to be picking up speed on Websleuths. I’ve been following on “the other site,” but like others have said it’s very hard to know what info to trust there.

  • #132
Well, crimeny, I knew that. I have no idea how I came up with 2!:oops: TY

CORRECTION: 11 miles

'tis ok, i think because they kept repeating it was a 2 hour walk.

Google Maps

so ive frequented this area, i didn't realize it until i looked at the google map. ive been to mercantile, tres hermanas and chicago fire. this area has a lot of older craftsman and Victorian homes, older homes split into apartments and then some apartments. a lively night scene. and quite a bit of homeless. tons of trees and parks.

sorry I'm late but just saw this case. F.

A missing piece for me is his level of intoxication, which has been (IMO) conspicuously not addressed. If he was inebriated, I would be more concerned about the river. Otherwise, my gut sadly leads me to think he net with foul play while walking. He strikes me as a bright but probably not very street-smart young man, who as a taller guy (I think he’s 6’1 or 6’2?) from a well-off family in Missouri likely has not had to worry much about people starting trouble with him. As such, I can imagine that he might have felt comfortable in an environment that would feel dangerous to others - for example, alone on a trail at 2:30am with AirPods in. JMO.

What a tangled web this is.

So the longer this goes on the more it reminds me of that poor kid that disappeared in Boston a couple winters ago. They didn't think they had any leads on him either until the very end they finally got footage of the train bridge over the river where they could see him drop right through the slats into the river.

I am glad the K9 seems to think Alex made it across. Don't the bridges have CCTV?

Totally my opinion, but does anyone else find the "carrying a passport instead of a drivers license" to be, well, odd? I wonder if people who've known him a long time could verify that he always did that. Or if he just recently started doing that.

i thought that was really indicative that he left on purpose until I remembered that a lot of people have the passport card which doubles as an ID so maybe it wasn't the booklet kind. There is a pending check on his passport though so that tells me LE thinks it is a possible lead. Oh wouldn't that be great if he just decided screw everyone, I'm going to Tokyo for New Years or something?

It is a rather small motel-style flathouse. Maybe a person could get mugged behind it and not be seen, but I doubt it - the streets are lit and residences closely packed, he would have been seen exiting his door in any case. I agree though that the alley, dumpsters and his trunk should be searched (and his apartment of course).

Well, considering his family and career, I think speculating about drug use or outing any drug use would be irresponsible. No one needs to know about that other than LE at this point. What if someone said "yeah, I've seen Alex blow a few lines here and there" on reddit, and then the news quotes that person like they're a verifiable source, and then Alex is found alive? It is a lot different than someone with a clear history of addiction. By comparison, Alex is super wholesome with 0 indications he does more than drink - I don't even see him as the kind of guy to eat a pot brownie. JMO

So that would be right where one of my 'hot zones' was in my initial search area analysis. I hope they search that reservoir too. Can any locals chime in on how much water is in that creek right now? Of course someone could have picked him up there, too. I hope we get some video of the k9.

I've looked at the clock after being suddenly woken up and the time I thought I saw wasn't the real time. If the girlfriend had looked at the clock from an angle, it could really have been 12:30--I've done that.

[sbm][bbm]

did she say she looked at a clock?
she probably looked at her phone
many people don't have clocks anymore

why would his g/f lie about him going home?
how does she benefit from saying he went home when he didn't?
that would just implicate her needlessly

With the new info that the K9 tracked to Northgate, I think it may be safe to assume for now that Alex left when she said he did, and the lack of CCTV is an LE ruse or just a matter of time until they find the camera that got him.

The only relevance to substance abuse is it would completely change the trajectory of the investigation ‍♀️, including the search efforts of volunteers.
