San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office

Be on the lookout!
On Wednesday, we took a missing persons report on a 16-year old girl who we learned was in a romantic relationship with a wrestling coach at Franklin High School in Stockton. Both the girl and the coach, 25-year-old Phillip Maglaya, are believed to be traveling together in a 1994 green Toyota extra cab truck with license plate number 8G91493 (similar to the pickup pictured below).

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone to call if they have information regarding this investigation.

Callers are asked to dial the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 468-4400, the Investigations Unit at (209) 468-4425 or the contact information on the post.

You can also text information to ‘Crimes’ (274637) and type the first keyword SJSO followed by a space then your tip. You can see SJSHERIFF.ORG for further help. This is completely anonymous.

Deputies search for Stockton wrestling coach traveling with missing teen

She's been gone since Wednesday? Or possibly earlier, since I believe she was just reported missing on Wednesday. That's a 3 to 4 day head start. Is there no other information?

Franklin wrestling coach sought in connection with missing teen
Maglaya served as a volunteer wrestling coach last year at Franklin High. Stockton Unified School District spokeswoman Dianne Barth confirmed Saturday that Maglaya had passed initial background checks and was vetted before he joined the coaching staff.

According to Barth, he was entering his second year with the team and was not paid. Maglaya is now prohibited from entering any SUSD campuses.

The teen — who has not been identified — is also a Franklin High student, said Barth.

I'm confused. The parents and the girl's friends didn't know about this relationship. Where did the info come from?

I agree. Something is off. No one had an inkling about the alleged relationship, and she texted her mom not to worry? Anyone can send a text.

I have many questions. Did the girl take anything with her? Clothes, personal items, a suitcase? Has her phone been used since the text? Any SM activity? Any sightings of the truck at gas stations or Walmarts?

I feel very concerned about this girl and really hope she is safe.

All MOO.

Ok, there needs to be a crapload more information about this before anyone can do anything about this. Like a photo of the missing girl, missing poster, description?

I guess her parents are trying to protect her identity, but IMO that's not going to fly if they want to find her. It would be so much easier for someone to recognize them as a couple. JMO

Would it be that the coach has no prior criminal history or warrants against him that would generate a serious alert for this young girl?

Hoping and praying that his conscience kicks in and he contacts authorities right away.

If this is a "romance" and they left to be "together", then he needs to do this and now!

Otherwise, I hope that anyone who knows him or knows of any connections he has with other people and other vicinities - contacts the authorities to help.

Update: As this investigation continues, the family of the missing girl provided the following: Picture of the girl, description, and a family statement.

Description is 5’05”, 160 lbs, brown hair, brown eyes. First name is Alexus.

Family Statement

“This has come to us as a tremendous shock. Alexus has always been an amazing and beautiful daughter, happy and full of love. She is a student at Franklin High School where she is in the International bacealorette program with a GPA of 4.58. She has always excelled in sports, she went to the Masters as a freshman wrestler and took fourth in State for the Port City wrestling team. She was also Franklin's top girl cross country runner. My wife and I, as well as friends and family, are truly devastated by this situation. We hope and pray that she realizes that we love her and miss her very much. We can and will get through this together as a family.

The last time I saw my daughter I was getting ready for work. As I was sitting on the couch putting on my shoes she jumped on my back hugging me and telling me she loved me. And as I was backing out of the driveway she stood in the doorway waiving goodbye. As a father, I beg you, please if you have seen her, notify authorities. Don’t just be a bystander. Imagine if this was your daughter.

Please report any leads to authorities. Thank you and God bless you all.
As for Philip, I pray that God will change your heart and you will bring our daughter home safely.

We love you Lex please come home.”

'Yeah, we trusted him': Mother of missing California teen says of alleged abductor
The parents of a missing 16-year-old California girl had met her accused abductor at practices and tournaments where he was a wrestling coach for her school, they told “Good Morning America.”

"Yeah," the teen’s mother, Iris Arther, said, "we trusted him."

"We knew him," dad Ron Arther said. "He was like, 'Yeah, your daughter is a great wrestler -- this and that -- she's going to do great next year."
