SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A body was found along the American River near the Sacramento State University campus over the weekend.

The body of a woman was found floating in the water Sunday near the Campus Commons Golf Course. A woman out for a walk made the discovery.

Passers-by on the American River found a 69-year-old woman’s body in the water Sunday afternoon and notified city Police, said Sgt. R.L. Davis with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Sandra Jean Reed-Vanwolferen, whose body was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, was found near Guy West Bridge. The woman has no current connections with Sacramento State.
