Zir Weems was arrested Wednesday morning in Chico on multiple animal cruelty charges out of Glenn County, officals confirmed.

Zir Weems was cleared from a medical facility in Chico this morning and then taken into custody by law enforcement on a warrant that was issued last week.

Authorities say Zir Weems' negligent treatment of a Rottweiler led to the dog's death, he has been booked into the Butte County jail on one felony and five misdemeanor counts, including subjecting an animal to needless suffering. He is awaiting transfer to the Glenn County Jail where he will be held on an $18,000 bond.

FBI agents were seen removing items from a house on Sonoma Street in Willows Thursday morning. The house belongs to Zir Weems's grandmother, Margaret Weems, who said that her grandson and his wife, Angelica Weems, occasionally visited there. Her house is next to the location where Zir Weems was found bleeding from apparent self-inflicted injuries one day after his wife went missing...

Meanwhile, police continue searching for Angelica Weems but with very little to work with...

"We're not really getting anything from Mr. Weems, as he's invoked counsel, and he has that right," he added.

Great point! That guy hung a dog and killed it. I don't even want to know what he has done to Angelica...So incredibly sad. She looks like such a sweet young woman.

An unidentified body was found Sunday morning by the family of a Chico woman who has been missing for three weeks.

The family of Angelica Weems reported finding a body around 10:30 a.m. in a ravine near the Sacramento River off Ord Ferry Road near the Butte County and Glenn County lines...

The body was found "covered up," and investigators were seen carrying shovels into the taped off area.

Hail said investigators have determined the body is that of a woman, but they have yet to determine her identity or how long the remains have been there...

The circumstantial evidence means the body is "probably" the missing 23-year-old but the Sheriff's Office won't speculate until investigators have made a positive identification, Hail said.

"We'll look at dental records," he said. "Right now, we are looking to compare the remains with Weems."

This case breaks my heart on so many levels. Bless them for continuing to search for her and for the closure it will bring, but I hate when it is the family that is the ones to find them, it's just not the last picture they should have in their heads.

Missed this yesterday. Poor Angelica :( and her poor family, noone should have to do that. Especially as she was in a place she was "known to go". And the article doesn't even have a picture of her.

" A judge has ruled there is sufficient evidence to hold a Chico man for trial for the death of his wife...

At one point in April, Angelica Weems sought a restraining order against the defendant but it was later withdrawn at her request...

Zir Weems was 19 or 20 when he first met a 15-year-old Angelica. Angelica Weems had the couple’s first child when she was 16. The pair had married before then.

Butte County sheriff’s sergeant Chris Nicodemus testified he attended the autopsy of the badly decomposed body Oct. 8 in Chico. Examination indicated she died of asphyxia due to strangulation."

Much more, including incredibly sad information regarding Zir Weems history of domestic violence against Angelica, at link.

RIP, Angelica. I'm sorry you were not able to leave this terrible man. It breaks my heart.
