I think they must have found evidence on computers or other devices during the search of gramma's house on May 25th that led them towards Solvang and the falls. JMO.
I wonder if the family knows someone in the area that could be hiding little Ara.
I hope that's what is happening even though I know the odds are against it.

"According to a sheriff’s department statement, detectives have examined evidence that indicates that in addition to spending April 21 visiting the Lake Cachuma Recreation Area, the father traveled around the area near Solvang and Nojoqui Falls.
...
Detectives served a warrant at the Montebello home of the boy’s paternal grandmother on May 25. The boy’s father had reportedly recently moved into the home, where investigators “seized various items of evidence,” according to a sheriff’s statement released at the time. Other details were not disclosed."

Either that or possibly a hand off (& that's why there was a turn off searched for and not a specific address) & he went to the lake afterwards to collect his thoughts....I'm hoping this is the case and the little boy is found safe & sound

I'm local and people around here said they are searching Hwy 154 from Lake Cachuma to Painted Cave Rd. That's a long distance. Locals are saying the searchers are all over the place. From what I read they are using helicopters, drones, horseback, atv's and scent dogs. That's a pretty intense search I'd say. You can get to Nojoqui from the 101. They must have got some pretty good tips for that kind of search.

Interesting that you mentioned Painted Cave Road. That road has crossed my mind a few times because it is one of the only roads I know of on 154 going to the Lake, where you can turn off and have access to the small backroad areas.

Most of the other turnouts are gated/locked entries to homes/farms/ranches.

But Painted road goes on for awhile and eventually there are some cool caves that my kids told me about. Apparently there are hiking trails that take you to ancient caves. So I wondered if it was an area AA knew about as well. He seems pretty familiar with the area around there.

I can see him meeting up with friends/family up there and handing the boy off.

But I can't see someone trying to keep the boy up there to live right now. It is actually a very small town environment. Pretty rural but everyone knows everyone.

There are a lot of Ranches/Farms, and everyone knows each other and would notice if a 'new' 5 yr old suddenly appeared.

And there are a lot of local Native Americans that live and work in the area. They would also notice a 5 yr old who appeared out of nowhere. JMO

Any chance he knew someone on the Santa Ynez Indian Reservation?

That would be a good place to stash a little boy---ONLY IF you could convince everyone he was being hidden for his own safety. They might not tell authorities if they were told the Mother was abusive or something.

He sure does seem to know the area pretty well. So, maybe he does know some locals.

I wonder if he went to Chumash Casino a lot? They only hire tribal members there.

I don't think I read they're searching Painted Cave. That's quite a distance from Solvang and Nojoqui Falls but right in the middle of heavily wooded area which would make sense to search though that road is darn long I hope they will invest the time necessary to do a thorough search.

With so many trees I don't understand how a drone could find the boy if for example he's been buried in a grave how would the helicopter and drones find the location wouldn't it not be noticeable from up in the sky?

i don't think an Indian or anyone else who is not an immediate blood relative who have already been searched, are going to risk life sentence in jail for helping to kidnap a 5 year old especially if they're not retired and would need to provide child care whenever they go to work, travel etc and would be ok with not sending him to school, locking him up from public view thereby committing more abuse than the mother they're saving him from was supposedly committing. I don't think the father ever pressed charges against the mother for abuse and nobody has made that claim I'm aware of.

It doesn't make sense at all. If anything they would come forward immediately to get out of the predicament and say they were framed and told it was short term babysitting to get out of the big mess that would lead to a life sentence. If the own father wouldn't want to risk getting caught kidnapping how can he talk anyone else into taking such a big risk? It's even easier getting away with murder since you're not traveling or hiding a person on you who can easily be found or escape.

Also as far as hiding the boy for safety, it was the mother who had filed for a restraining order against Ara Sr. He hadn't filed one against her. <modsnip>

Secondly, I don't think he knew the area well at all. It could have been his first time there. When his computer was confiscated they could have found map searches and google searches of the areas they're searching.

The Chumash Casino is the largest employer in the area and they employ many people who are not Chumash. I do think that if AA went to the Chumash Casino that he is on surveillance footage. There is free alcohol for people gambling but....you have to show ID and get a pass/card to gamble. LE would have checked this. AA may have been drinking in the valley and may have used cash.

The reservation area where there are homes is very small, it's just a few blocks long.

IMO AA buried Ara in a shallow grave off of one of the small roads near Hwy 154. Locals walk their dogs regularly on Refugio Rd and Alisal Rd. so these areas are not as private

I wonder if they found credit cards and were able to get those records?

They hire anyone there. My son in law and his family all work there and my daughter used to work there.

In addition to the roads off 154 there also appear on the map to be creeks such as the Kelly and San Jose creeks. <modsnip>

it looks like from the map he drove off the 101 to the 154 through the painted cave area, on to Cachuma lake and instead of backtracking through the crime scene drove through Solvang and Nojoqui Falls back to the 101. The tavern and golf course are on the route if he stopped by.

I no longer believe that the child is alive. There was no any hand-off. The child is dead by now, and we should be lookng for a grave

Websleuths is a victim-friendly forum. Sleuth whatever and whomever you like on your own, but do not post it here. At this time, there are no named suspects in this case. Please do not accuse anyone of committing a crime in this case until LE names a suspect. Family members' social media accounts are off-limits. Please contact a mod if you have any questions and we will be happy to assist.

Sr. has been labeled a "person of interest" by LE including in an interview by Lietenant Mendoza yesterday. I'm not clear what the difference is compared to a suspect if anyone can shed some light.

Definition from google:
""Person of interest" is a term used by U.S. law enforcement when identifying someone involved in a criminal investigation who has not been arrested or formally accused of a crime."

Do you have a link to the articles or videos naming Ara Sr. as a POI in his son's disappearance? I have not had time to read every article. Even if he has been named a POI, we cannot outright accuse him of killing his son.

Liltexans posted about 'suspects'
Suspect has been accused
POI has not
Just as your comment stated.

"Detention of a suspect occurs mainly for the following reasons:

1. the suspect has been accused of carrying out a particularly serious offence"
