This might have happened in Mexico since he was attempting to cross the border into the US. There doesn't seem to be any evidence he made it. He may have succumbed to the desert, poor child, before he made it to any of the Calexico border ports. It happened in April when it's comfortably warm. It averages around 86 degrees. If he made it to the East Calexico port, then he was less than 2 miles from the city of Calexico CA.
