Disappearances are not always what they appear to be. I followed the disappearance of Jorry Palm from a few years ago. Akron, Ohio. He left a club late, stopped at an ATM and withdrew a large amount of cash. Then he just vanished. Most thought he was robbed and the victim of foul play. He was located two months later in his car that was submerged upside down in a bog next to a road. It was believed he lost control of the vehicle while driving at the speed of around 80 mph.

Another one is Chase Cook, Oregon, disappeared 2012. Took a drive and disappeared into the nearby mountains. His truck was found parked in the woods in an obscure location a couple years later. No signs of foul play. His mother held out but admittedly said it was possible he disappeared willingly or committed suicide as his gun was missing. His remains were located earlier this year a mile from his truck. Suicide.

Interesting info about court orders but quick question. is it not safe to say that if they know the pings & when the phone/s shut off they have already been given some permissions to Audreys phone?

It is safe to say that LE already has ping data for Audrey's phone. What info they have for JDR's is uncertain. AM didn't ping outside the East Coachella Valley on the night of May 10. And neither phones have had any activity past midnight on that day.

My original question, which might have started the whole "court order" discussion, was a ponder as to whether LE might be able to justify a tower dump or two, at this time. To see if there were any phones pinging the exact same towers as AM pinged, after her 8:47ish contact with her mother. If there was another phone that pinged the same towers as AM did, maybe that would be the phone of an abductor.

And the area AM was in seems like it might have been rural enough, to have fewer subscribers past 9pm.

And please recognize that there is a huge, big IF in my statement. I have no idea IF this type of query would be performed, or could even be performed, given the present circumstances of this case. It really might be an overwhelming task. Needle in a haystack, type of thing. But it is interesting, for me anyway, to try and figure out how LE will be able to solve this, if it does turn out that what occurred was random.

Two important missing persons cases have been solved recently by phone pings as the first real clue. So hopefully digital data can help here.

I feel like there are some real privacy infringements happening there. "Hello, sir, could you answer a few questions for us, please? Is this your cell phone number? Are you in sole possession of it? Where were you on the night of May 10? What were you doing in the East Coachella Valley?"

None of your damn business.

I have a feeling that the way in which the general public might be most helpful (other than producing a real lead) is if someone remembers seeing that SUV at any point that evening.

AM's vehicle was distinctive enough, and she was traveling during hours where there might have been sparse enough traffic that she may have stood out. Hopefully someone has already phoned LE letting them know they saw her SUV--wherever they saw it. This might help a lot with timeline.

The NAMUS report states that AM was wearing black shorts, a black top and a black sweater---with black heel type sandal shoes. And that report says she wore glasses (maybe when she drove?).

Her vehicle was a 2010 Acadia Grey SUV.

The SUV had to have stopped to pick JDR up, somewhere. So this might have been at a shop or fast food joint a long the way. And then the SUV definitely stopped on I-10 just west of the Oak Parkway turn off.

There are a number of routes to get to that point on I-10. Highway 111 can get you there from Palm Desert. You could go through the mountains, and the Pinyon Pines area by way of 74 and 79.

Maybe there is someone out there, who did see that SUV and doesn't realize that the sighting was important.

I'm certain that if someone were to remember seeing that vehicle, they would have definitely reported it to LE. Unless they were involved in their disappearance. <modsnip>

I definitely don't monitor every vehicle around me when I go to the gas station or to grab something to eat. I'm guessing that now that we are almost 3 months out - any possible information regarding sighting her vehicle would have already been shared.

OK. that's your opinion. But what's the harm in posting the information again? Someone who drove the area, and doesn't even know anyone is missing might happen on a post now. <modsnip>

It might be beneficial to also mention that there is a $10,000 reward. Money is usually a great motivator. Any other information would be of great value at this point.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I know many would say that if you've nothing to hide, then what's the big deal? Well the big deal is that some people are very independent, private and completely law-abiding, who also happen to believe the government has a proclivity for being rather too meddlesome and heavy-handed.

I'm not really familiar with the area so I'm not sure if there would be passersby that saw something and either didn't think anything was suspicious or haven't given whatever they saw a 2nd thought because they don't even know about the case. I have friends not too far away from the area and they had no idea of this case until about three weeks ago when I saw them and brought it up, I was shocked.

There are people who go about their business unaware of their surroundings and then there are people like my spouse, always hyper aware. They can tell you details of cars, people, plates etc around. We can drive down our street and they'll point out a car that doesn't belong, park in a lot and can name the cars all around us. It's almost ridiculous but I know several people like this... I fall somewhere in between.

So for example if it were my friends that saw something (having the awareness of my spouse) and kept on driving, especially if nothing looked suspicious... they wouldn't have even thought to call to report because they were clueless about this case and reward money.

I agree. Also, when I read the NAMUS report, AM was dressed in a way that might have caught someone's notice. If she got out of her SUV for any reason, she was all in black, with black hair, shorts and strappy high heels. Maybe someone took notice in passing.

The other thing about the NAMUS report that stuck out was the glasses. I don't know if AM was wearing glasses that night, but it might help for someone to know that she might have been.

I always pay attention when I travel in the road since I travel a lot. But honestly i forget most of the things i see on the road. I don't think my memory holds information regarding cars on the road unless I see a traumatic event. I feel that might be one of the reasons people might not really remember (if they're like me). Seeing a couple on the road doesn't seem odd and I wouldn't stop to help since is two of them. If they got into another vehicle I won't think it's odd either since I might think they're having car issues. **just my opinion

A passenger might remember more than a driver. I recently did a road trip and was both a driver and passenger, at various points. I do remember noticing people and vehicles. Not down to absolute specifics, but enough that if I saw a poster mentioning that someone had come up missing, and this is what they looked like and here is what their car or vehicle looked like, I might remember enough to report it--if I saw them.

IF AM picked JDR up at a venue (as in store or eating establishment), someone at the venue, might recall this later.

IF AM picked JDR up at a residence, a neighbor might recall seeing an unfamiliar vehicle in the drive next door.

IF AM actually picked JDR up at home that night (if the Brawley report is wrong, or there was a last minute change in plans after AM leaves her sister's home) a neighbor of JDR's might recall seeing this.

I have to wonder if we see things daily that have more significance than we realize at the time. And one hopeful thing, is that there may have been someone who took notice for reasons of attraction. If a guy sees a girl in a cute outfit, maybe he would remember this.

I think the more these images get out in front of the public, the more likely someone who doesn't realize they saw something of importance, might suddenly realize they did.

There's not a whole lot more the general public can do. We have no insider info. We don't know AM and JDR, personally. All we can really do is keep the story alive, and relevant, in a manner respectful of family and friends of the missing and respectful of the two missing persons, themselves.

I think the lack of new information is frustrating everyone. I do think it would be nice, however, if more credence was given to different theories, like voluntary disappearance or the missing persons' involvement in illegal activity. Perhaps they weren't just two "beautiful people" from "nice families."

I totally agree that "nice families" means diddly squat. My parents were/are fantastic and holy rollers for sure but I have an idiot of a brother that makes people think wth?? lol! Love him to death but good Lord mistakes in life list could go on and on.

I feel like if they're voluntarily missing it's because they HAD to. I really don't believe for a second they ran away to be happily ever after. My gut feeling is still that they made some bad choices and got caught up in something.

I concur! 100%!

<modsnip> if the theory up for discussion is that they in fact made some bad choices and got caught up, had to disappear etc... where would LE go from here?

ODC, I'm curious what you think about [or know]. What are some scenarios that come to mind when playing out this theory?

I'm also curious to know if they did leave voluntarily and were found and let's say they tell LE they left because someone's out to kill them or whatever... what happens? Is the family informed?

  • #137
This case is hard as we don't really know a lot. We know bits only. Personally unless something really odd is going on I won't remember anyone on side of the road. But do think someone might
I think we have all asked but I don't recall knowing how long did they go out for ? I would find a newer relationship unlikely to involve the other in anything hinky or disappear together. But if they were in fact together longer then that is definitely worth exploring. By all accounts they do seem to be close to families and nothing appears to have been leaked yet regarding other activities in either lives.

Don't be curious about what I think about. It's dark up in my brain. What I know is another story. If two missing people are found by law enforcement and they don't want their family to know where they are, then law enforcement just tells the family that they have located the individuals and that's all they can do. If someone made them disappear, well, what choices led to that? <modsnip>

That's good to know (re if families are informed) thank you. I do care what your opinion may be on what theory your dark brain may come up with. Considering what we know what plays out in that dark creepy mind?

If you don't want to provide a theory, anyone else is welcomed to chime in.

First, is there any sort of public mention that a voluntary missing person has been located safe (so others don't continue to look for him/her/them)? <modsnip>
