I do get a very odd sense from this case and I do have to say that the absence of any family or friends coming forward to publicly speak to the media to support RT is concerning to me. For example, "He is a great husband, they love travelling together....he buys her favourite beer every Friday....."

We haven't heard anything much at all in the ways of interviews (again from family, friends, neighbours, co-workers) to incite the public to help find this woman (if she was picked up, or abducted) and change the headline from being the bikini-clad woman who went missing in the Mojave Desert to something that tells us about her as a person who is missed and loved by many people.

Nothing out there to help the public get to know Barbara, to make people invested in finding her (again, if she was abducted or picked up.) I would love to hear about her hobbies, like, for example; "She loved to volunteer.....garden.....ballroom dance......swim.....be a Grandma" Anything to 'personalize' her from being a flashy headline to a person who needs to be brought home safely. Now.

We are all strangers to her here and are hoping desperately to do anything we can do to help find her. Why hasn't a single person who knows her said anything in msm other than her husband?

I would love know more about Barbara and who she is as person....she looks like she would be a pretty wonderful lady to get to know.

I hope this all came out right.... JMO
Great post! If it wasn't for her nephew on here, db our VI, we wouldn't know anything about the two of them personally. As well as her brother's input through the nephew db. That's really it.

RT had one daughter that spoke once in front of the media, but nothing about them to make you think if they were a loving couple that was happy or issues in their relationship that was strained.

We've definitely covered the "beer" and "experienced hiker" thing. Lots of people take beer hiking. Do they count as "experienced"? I really don't know. I agree that all truly experienced hikers always carry water. And I'm getting people whistles to carry.
.
PSA - Lots of new backpacks have whistles formed into the sternum strap. Check it out if you have a backpack that is less than ~5 years old. And 3 sharp whistles in a row is a sign of distress.

Still would not have helped in this scenario since she had no pack at all with her.

MOO-I predict somewhere in Las Vegas, and not well hidden because one needs a body to receive insurance money.

Eyou. That’s creepy.

I go back and forth. It's possible she walked onto a side path (but all trails were near the road). I don't think she took off cross country in the heat and with all the cholla cactus out there.

Still, there's a very good possibility that RT was out photographing longer than he thought, that she couldn't find the key to the truck/RV (which was it? both?) and that she sought shade and got way out of the (very large) search range. They couldn't use FLIR, just vision (and there's lots of brush). A human body with only a red cap that's very visible is hard to see from the air (skin and the color black are not particularly visible).

Sorry for the morbidity in this post. Death from misadventure is probably the most likely. Dogs have a hard time with scent in the desert. She could have walked miles along Hidden Hill (dirt) Road in the time in between when she was said to go missing and when searchers showed up...
Here's what I don't understand- RT said he stopped to take a couple of pictures. So, let's just say, that's anywhere between 2-10 minutes- I mean, how many photos can you snap of the same thing? He said he saw her round the corner, and when he got there, she was gone.

Was it ever determined how far he was away from that corner and approximately how many seconds or minutes behind her, he was? Think about it- when she got to the camper- if she's there looking under several rocks for the keys to the camper or truck, he should have been there shortly after. What would make her just up and walk away, if he was just a couple of minutes behind her?

I am wondering the same myself and am surprised folks are intrigued by this as well.

He mentioned Vegas for a reason. Why?

I am worried that her body may eventually be found, on the way to Vegas.

There's a reason why he mentioned Vegas.
It's been bothering me as well. Sometimes when telling a fictional story, a bit of the truth slips in. I'm not saying that happened in this case though because the husband is still considered a victim here.

This is what comes to my mind when I hear she didn’t have a cell phone: If her ‘disappearance’ via harmful means was planned, did the person (let’s say the spouse) ensure she didn’t have her cell, knowing that otherwise police would be able to track her with it.
It would be a cunning ruse. On day hikes that don’t require two packs, it’s not unusual for one partner to do the carrying (often the male) or even to share the weight by both carrying at some point. I see it all the time on trails, and do the same.

Right there with both of you. You'd have to forcibly remove me from the last known place I saw her, because all I would be able to think is "She's GOT to be here somewhere. Keep looking." Abduction wouldn't enter my mind, because it's such a rare thing comparatively.
Right. I mean, it's one thing if say, he found her travel mug and hat on the ground, and say skid marks made from her hiking boots to show she was dragged, possibly being forced into a vehicle- then I would totally agree with the abduction theory. At that point, I would hope LE would have an APB out for her, had she been kidnapped.

Yet, he was simply taking pictures, she was heading back to the camper. He shouldn't have been too far away from her time wise, as he saw her round the corner.

@noel leon are you related to Barbara? An earlier post seemed to indicate knowledge of her flight/hotel plans.
Thank you. I just spent the last hour trying to find who I thought was a relative. I read this thread earlier in the afternoon, and got the same impression, but it looks like something changed under their profile pic- there's no longer links under their photo? I wanted to ask the same question, but had to go offline for a few hours and never got the chance.

To go along with that I think he speaks about her in the past tense.

Oh. That’s not good at all. When did he start referring to her in the past tense? Dead giveaway, if you pardon my expression.

That is awesome- I need to get one of those for myself and my daughters. Thanks for letting us know such back packs exist.

Agree. I've read over and over, suspects mix the truth with lies, so it's a matter of sifting and sorting the relevance of his statements to her disappearance, which can send LE on a wild goose chase.

OT: When my children were young, we did a great deal of RV camping. I always made sure each of my children had a loud whistle with them. It only takes a second for a child to become separated from a group and become lost. They were instructed to stay put and blow the whistle. It's such a simple thing, but it gave me some piece of mind. I guess it's a good idea for adults too!

Let’s try this:
If there is a simple explanation of husband’s activities vis a vis wife, it would exonerate him. Right? Right.

There is not one explanation that makes any sense. Not one that is believable. Nothing that holds water.
Every single scenario has been discussed, dissected, measured, ad nauseam.

And what definitive conclusion has anyone reached?

Exactly.
If there is no plausible, believable, acceptable explanation, what’s the answer?

Exactly.
Ok, so we should all just abort the thread, right?

Exactly...

You can also get key chain whistles. They're small and loud. Also very cheap. Look at Amazon.

Make sure to get a keychain flashlight/LED light too. Really helpful at night in a parking lot, or on the trail, or wherever.

Yes, and we have whistles and such in ours when hiking, with many other supplies- I've even packed freeze dried foods, if it's going to be a long or unfamiliar hike. I just love that the whistles are already in there, ready to be used. It's so important to be prepared, especially in unfamiliar areas or deep into the woods.

I think he said she had to go back to the RV. She could have needed to use the restroom, and he could've lost track of time a bit. That said, I feel doubtful of his account.

Yes, and I have one on my key chain and love knowing it's there if needed. Along with a couple of other safety goodies, just in case.

BBM:

Bumping this old video clip:

Husband of missing 69-year-old hiker says police consider him a suspect

Per the reporter in that vid, authorities have said:
  • They are "unaware" of how long RT and BT were separated before she disappeared.
  • They "don't know" how far BT was from the RV at the time they became separated.
That LE said both of those things is both utterly stunning, and completely revealing.

LE has also said they don't believe BT was abducted, i.e., they don't believe the theory RT's putting out there.

I mean, really.

C'mon, now.

LE could not be telegraphing any more clearly their outright disbelief of whatever it is RT has told them.

It's as plain as the nose on Pinocchio's face.

JMO.
