'In February 1980, the remains of an unidentified individual were discovered in a creek bed as water levels receded in Benicia, California. Benicia is a city in Solano County, California, located on the north bank of the Carquinez Strait in the northern San Francisco Bay Area. Investigators determined that the remains were that of a man who was between the ages of 20 and 40 years old, that stood between 5’8” and 6’1” tall, and weighed 155 pounds. No other identifying characteristics could be determined for the man and he was buried as John Doe #3 (1980).

In August 2016, details of the case were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP15568.'
'In December 2023, the Solano County Coroner's Office submitted forensic evidence to Othram in The Woodlands, Texas. Othram scientists successfully developed a DNA extract from the forensic evidence and used Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® to build a comprehensive DNA profile for the unknown man.'
This investigation led to the positive identification of the man, who is now known to be 25-year-old Donald Gene Horecka. Horecka was from Las Vegas, Nevada and went missing from the area sometime in the late 1970s to early 1980s.

Anyone with information about the disappearance or death of Donald Horecka, is asked to contact contact Solano County Coroner Investigator Jessica Dew at 707-784-7500.''

''Deputies said they responded to a Benicia property on Feb. 2, 1980, after getting a report about a body being found in a creek bed. At the time, investigators determined the body belonged to a man, deputies said. They also learned he died from corrosive esophagitis, which is caused by “ingesting a chemical substance not meant for human consumption,” according to deputies.''

Hmm. That's an odd death. Suicide? But he was found on a creek bed, so poisoning?

Maybe pica syndrome? They swallow inedible things.
Suicide is unlikely because even if someone swallows an acid it takes a while to develop corrosive esophagitis and die from sepsis after digestive fluids leak into the body. Most suicidal people poisoning themselves want a quick acting poison and not wait hours or days in agony to pass away.

Was he Native? He certainly looks like. His last name is i think Czech or Polish, though.

I think his surname is Polish, but I believe one of his parents is Asian or Pasifika.

According to Dr Google the risk of developing corrosive esophagitis can come from multiple activities:
  • Swallowing strong chemicals such as detergents, dishwashing liquid, or drain cleaners
  • Radiation therapy to kill cancer cells
  • Certain medicines, such as antibiotics, pain medicines, and drugs for osteoporosis (weak bones)
  • Pills that get caught in your throat if you have a narrow esophagus or do not swallow enough liquid with the pills
  • Digestion changes or problems as you get older
  • Certain conditions that cause your esophagus to narrow or the muscles not to work correctly
  • A dry mouth condition that causes less saliva to be made
  • Heart problems that cause your heart to get bigger and press on your esophagus can make the opening smaller
