CA CA - Bryce Laspisa, 19, Castaic, 30 Aug 2013 - #10

Or just happy about getting money.

It was a fixed and unusual smile. As wide as a smile can get. The smile of someone who is not exhibiting normal facial expressions, but is trying hard to look...innocuous?

The place where I saw the main I believe to be Laspisa is always occupied by at least one sign-holding person asking for money. From early in the morning until well after dark. They are all part of a homeless community living in a nearby riverbed, according to local police (to whom I also reported that I thought I saw him - and they said I wasn't the first person to contact them). They also said that a lot of the sign holders are drug users (meth) and are watched by their drug dealers and the money is taken from them as they collect it.

Actually, the police resource officer for that area of our town said it was "all" of the panhandlers, as far as he knew. California Supreme Court ruled that people have the right to be on sidewalks, etc.

During the height of fire season (we're technically beyond that now, but they're going to have to revise the dates next year, I think), the local authorities tried to dismantle the big homeless encampments and get the people out of the river bed due to high fire danger. Many are now back down there (one can see them from several vantage points if one knows where to look).

I thought about Bryce with that fire, as well. There are many homeless people who move up and down the river beds (and Castaic has water resources and open land where people can survive, if they come down to the fast food restaurants along the I-5 and rummage through trash, which they do).

10ofRods I agree with your post. I believe Bryce is out there somewhere. If this is how he wants to live his life then he has that right .I believe your sighting as well ashsome of the others. I pray he is safe and finds what he is looking for

Voices for Justice Podcast just released an episode about Bryce's disappearance.

When 19-year-old college student Bryce Laspisa set out on a late-night drive from Northern California to his parents’ home in Southern California, no one could have predicted what would happen next. After a series of strange events and a car crash, Bryce vanished, leaving behind a wrecked vehicle and a trail of questions that remain unanswered to this day.

19-year-old Bryce David Laspisa went missing from the area of Castaic Lake in Southern California on August 30, 2013. He is 5’11”, weighed about 170 lbs. when he went missing, and has red hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing white cargo shorts, a blue and white checkered shirt, and red
and white Nike brand shoes. He has a tattoo of a Taurus bull head and a Roman numeral on his left shoulder.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 818-984-0630.

Is possible this UID? I know it could be the other man, but he's still on Namus!

In 2019, I went to California as a tourist, and by chance, having set my GPS incorrectly, I ended up in Castaic and took Old Ridge Road for a while. There was practically nothing there, just deserts, steep, arid valleys, but the terrain is so vast that the remains of Bryce could be anywhere, even right next to the old Old Ridge Road. Sorry, this thought came to me remembering my vacation there. Besides, he hasn't been found in the lake or nearby (unless he's wandered off or is in the surrounding woods). Of course, there's always the remote possibility that he's alive somewhere else.

If I am remembering correctly - I hope - I believe this man was identified. I do recall as Hispanic? Maybe someone else reading will remember this incident?

I believe so too and also older than Bryce.

The case number doesn’t bring anything up at the LA County Coroner website and the NamUs page remains active, so it is unlikely the case has been resolved.

I do not believe that Bryce is alive, however, if he is, he chooses to remain "missing". Shouldn't that choice be respected?

I agree if Bryce , as an adult, wants to remain "missing" that's his choice. But he hasn't told anyone that, so you can't respect those wishes that are unknown. The fact that his car was found overturned, makes me wonder if he hit his head and has amnesia. Medical reasons could be clouding his judgement and thought process if alive.

If you are familiar with Bryce's story you must know that his actions before the accident were suspicious. He literally stayed in one place nearly 12 hours despite being contacted by law enforcement, his parents and an automotive service. Law enforcement and the auto service guy said he did not seem to be in any distress but he had to be "made" to speak to his worried parents by LE. He never completed the trip back home because he really didn't want to. I don't know why but Bryce did and didn't care to share that with anyone. If he remains alive' he should allow his parents to know that he doesn't want a relationship with them and that he is okay but it's still his choice alone - not ours. Again, I don't think he's able but not because of any mental issues he may have.

In your opinion, you feel Bryce is not alive, but if he is, he doesn't want to be found and we should respect that... Agreed that it should be respected....but we dont know, do we (?) I dont...
Definitely out of character behavior before the accident, and if he is alive and choosing to be "free" of his prior life, I hope he tells his parents so they, LE, and all of us can stop hoping and looking for him. But at this point, I hope this thread is posted on and kept alive.

Bryce had broken the back window to get out after the car landed on its side. Does anyone remember where the tracking dogs picked up his scent after he exited the vehicle?

IIRC, the dogs tracked his scent to a nearby truck stop.
