So perhaps he wasn't planning on going home to Laguna Niguel.

I don't think that he was. He was avoiding her calls to the point that she felt it necessary to contact a stranger (the roadside assistance serviceman) to check on him and then later had to go down to the police station to file a missing person report to have the police ping his cell phone to find out where he was because he wasn't answering her calls. (He used his cell phone later so we know that it was working.) Plus he sat in Buttonwillow for at least 17 hours instead of driving the 2.75 remaining hours back to Laguna Niguel. When he finally did get back on the 5 freeway he drove less than an hour and a half and then spent several hours driving around the Castaic area. It doesn't appear to me that he was in any hurry to go home.

yuppers! plus one pill isn't going to make you stay up for 4 days. i know boys and how they love their sleep - but in comfy beds, or pals couches, not SUV's in truck stops.

I agree. I believe the roommate was calculating Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri as the 4 days. So really he was only up all Tues night, & most of Wed until he slept at the rest stop just before sun-up Thurs morning. So not really 4 full days. Just 2.

After googling and reading articles on this subject, Bryce being up 4 days with the Adderall in his system was on a Adderall crash. Many articles on this and it seems it is quite brutal coming down on this.

Here is the link a few of you were asking me to post. This is the statement that caught my eye: "Laspisa left Northern California Wednesday night after breaking up with his girlfriend. Initially, the Laguna Niguel college student didn’t tell his parents he was making the long road trip. They found out when Laspisa called for roadside assistance during the drive.
Laspisa’s parents said they finally spoke with him when he was leaving Buttonwillow at 11 p.m. and they kept calling to make sure he was okay."

If anyone can help me find the news article that said something to the effect that Bryce's Mom received a message from the roadside assistance service letting her know about Bryce running out of gas, that would be awesome. I can't seem to find it again but I know I read it somewhere. It's not that important but I just thought it might be an indication that Bryce didn't intend to tell his parents of the trip and they found out by accident via the message from Triple A (or whoever delivered the gas). Which could mean Bryce was NOT going to Laguna Niguel and just made it up, spur of the moment. TIA

I am not convinced that he spent 17+ hours in Buttonwillow sleeping. If he did, why would he then be so exhausted after only driving an hour and fifteen minutes to Castaic that he would have to pull over and sleep some more? (Laguna Niguel, if you believe he was really heading there, was only an additional hour and a half away.)

My thoughts exactly. That's an AWFUL lot of sleep!

I know what you mean but I like to define hearsay just for "edumacation" sake since it's a term that is so misunderstood! Hearsay is any statement made outside a court and not under oath. Everything we link to on here, every statement made in a presser, it's all hearsay.
Snipped by me. The dictionary says both are defined as hearsay....

1. Unverified information heard or received from another; rumor. (in this particular case the information wouldn't be coming directly from the poster but from the poster's son)

2. Law Evidence based on the reports of others rather than the personal knowledge of a witness and therefore generally not admissible as testimony.

If the above is correct and he left Buttonwillow at 11pm it took him 3 hours to make the 1.25 hour drive down to Castaic.

I can't look for the article right now, but I read it too. It said she got a text notifying her of the roadside assistance request. She then got in contact with the service people & somehow spoke to the person who went out there to ask how Bryce was, how he seemed, etc. I'm guessing because she was trying to call Bryce & getting no response.

Except the timeline doesn't say he left Buttonwillow at 11. I get the feeling he didn't leave until after midnight when mom called again & he said he didn't know where he was. He really did seem to be trying to buy a lot of time & not leave Buttonwillow. *bizarre*

9 p.m. Thursday - responding to a call from the mother, CHP officers stop and search Bryce’s car spotted on Lagoon Drive in Buttonwillow. “Something happened in the whole 10 hours he was around there,” she said.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday - Karen speaks to her son on the phone and asks: “What are you doing?” His response, she said, is: “I’m going to hang with friends later.”

11 p.m. Thursday - Bryce tells his mother he’s buying a beverage at a gas station. A purchase is made for $1.71, she said.

Shortly after midnight Thursday - “He tells me he’s on the I-5 south but he’s telling me nothing,” she said.
1:50 a.m. Friday - Bryce, by phone, tells her he “had detoured off I-5 but was back on the I-5.”

2:08 a.m. Friday - Karen Laspisa talks to her son for the last time. He tells her his GPS tells him he will arrive in Laguna Niguel in three hours and 25 minutes. “He told me ‘I got off the I-5 and I’m in a suburban area. I’m going to sleep in my car,’”

She spoke about it on the John and Ken show on KFI640 radio (I am looking for the audio of it) and Dragracerz posted the following on September 5th:

"Could be ? I don't know if it is in the timeline or not, but the road service driver showed up with gas and Bryce wasn't by his car, the driver left and Bryce called back immediately requesting gas, the driver turned around and brought him 3 gallons of gas.

My sister was notified of the road service via text (survey on service) and called and actually talked to the driver while he was with Bryce. He said he didn't see him when he first got there and maybe Bryce was sleeping, Bryce was listening to the conversation and butted in, "Yeah, I was sleeping"

Okay, I don't know if the driver looked in the car when he first got there and left OR if he did and Bryce wasn't in the car ???"

I don't know if it is accurate but if it is it took him 3 hours to drive to Castaic (which should have taken him 1.25 hours.) I definitely agree, the whole thing is bizarre.

Honestly, trying not to be harsh or insensitive, but do a lot of folks seriously believe that Bryce is wandering around someplace, not knowing who he is or how to ask for help, for sixteen or so days now?

I dont know but it is certainly possible. Otherwise how is it that people disappear and then reappear with amnesia days, weeks or months later, safe and alive? How did they survive? How did they not quickly end up at the police station or a hospital?:

This is a story of a man with amnesia found at a hotel. But in the article is the story if a young woman who went missing for days who had amnesia. She said a man let her tag along with him on a trip to the grand canyon, until he saw a report indicating she was missing and alerted her:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...alifornia-motel-awakens-with-amnesia/2520003/

Here's an article about a man who gets amnesia when stressed, recently missing for days but once missing for 9 months: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/15373503/ns/us_news-life/t/man-amnesia-reunited-family-friends/

The article states: People with dissociative fugue typically appear fine but have temporarily lost their sense of identity, are confused and impulsively travel away from home. Experts say it is rare and typically linked to severe stress.

This article is about a missing California man who was found 8 days after suffering a head injury, in Utah, with amnesia: http://fox13now.com/2013/03/16/missing-california-man-with-amnesia-found-in-slc/

Here's an article about a homeless man with amnesia discovered to be an upstanding lawyer and father of two who went missing 6 months previously: http://abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=1629645

This is one about a man with a head injury who had amnesia and traveled 1000 miles from where he had been hiking, by walking and hitching rides, all while not knowing who the hell he was, in two weeks time.

I can cite dozens of similar cases, because they are all over the Internet. How did they survive during their days or weeks or months missing, despite people searching for them and when they did not know who they were? How did some go months without detection? Without money?

I don't know, but they did so why is it impossible for Bryce?

I guess I don't get the impression that Bryce is the type was prepared to strike out and live rough, with no money, none of his "things" etc.

Some college-aged people are definitely into the idea of that kind of a life or adventure, but nothing looks that way about Bryce, from what little we know. Not saying he lived a pampered life per se, but seemingly a pretty comfy one and kids tend to grow pretty accustomed to their comforts and very attached to their belongings, IMO.

The possibility of an emotional or mental break is a valid one to me, as my brother basically "left" the world at aged nineteen when mental illness hit seemingly out of the blue. But his instincts were to run for the safety of his room at home, certainly not to be out and about having to forage for survival. Maybe Bryce was seeking home and then had the accident, but if he was okay, I still feel like he would try very hard to get there.

JMO

But I think most people's instincts when they have a mental break are the opposite of your brother's. Which is why we have so many mentally ill homeless.

This whole flying thing has never made sense to me. By the time you pack, get to the airport, park, get through security, pick up your bags on the other end (possibly, depending how much you pack), get picked up or get a taxi/shuttle from Sacramento to Rocklin/Roseville... well, I just don't see the point in flying from Laguna. It's not that far. I don't think it'd take much more time, if any, to drive it.

I don't know that it means anything, but it continues to nag at me. Maybe it means that the family's very comfortable flying even for short distances? I know it's out there, but is it possible Bryce has flown somewhere?

It tales me 3.5 house to get from my house in Orange County to my brother's in Oakland, via plane, and I get to hit the airport bar before hand and have a drink on the plane, while I relax and watch t.v or listen to music while looking out the window.

By car it's at least 6 hours, stressful and no drinks!!!

With no money who would be giving him food and drink? and wouldn't whoever been supplying this have seen a flyer or news by now? Unless someone took him in and has no idea of who he is nor is trying to find out.

I believe his is not alive. Either he drowned and is still in the lake or he met up with foul play and was killed in Buttonwillow or Castaic by a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 or or drug dealer and buried him elsewhere. Perp could have taken his truck and drove it over the cliff as a ruse to make people believe he is around the lake area to throw the LE & searchers off from where they really disposed of him as to not be found. I know the dogs picked up his scent along the lake but it could have been a false positive hit.

Still waiting for the blood results but he could have been killed by the perp in his own truck if it were Bryce's and perp dumped or buried his body far from where it actually happened.

My intuition has always been pretty good. I hope I'm very wrong this time. I want him found safe and alive.

Many homeless people and mentally ill people survive all the time without money. There's a code of silence on the street. People help each other but don;t ask a lot of questions.

BBM

I also thought this was a possibility BUT then I remembered his car was searched in Buttonwillow by LE and no drugs/alcohol were found AND I would think the dogs at the crash site would pick up the scent of the "stash" immediately seeing as how they are trained K9. And I'm not an expert but I think that a stash that large (large enough to transport) would reek heavily. JMO

:twocents: :moo:

Snipped by me for space.

That's a good point. Nothing was found.

I don't know why people keep thinking that something significant happened in Buttonwillow. His mom sent the road side assistance guy back to check on him several hours later and he was still in the same spot, sleeping. Plus he was in Castaic..not only was his scent picked up but also he was on surveillance @ Castaic 1 minute or so after he talked to his mom and told her he was exiting the freeway to sleep. <modsnip> Why did he run out of gas? That's weird to me in itself. Why wouldnt he just stop and get gas...why let it run all the way out...everyone knows there is nothing but gas stations, food and hotel/motels off of every exit on the interstate..also i agree that if he had any cash on him he wouldnt be putting a $1.70 charge on his card. No scenario really fits anything because where one scenario makes one part of the story fit or make some type of sense it raises questions somewhere else. There are A LOT of questions and not ONE scenario that provides a feasible explanation for every question even just in theory.

Running out of gas? Well, remember the post about the 23 year old who had been doing his laundry for three years without knowing he needed to add detergent?

Bryce is 19. This was his first trip by car home. he ran out of gas right outside a truck/traveller's stop. I'd say he just overestimated.

This is one of the parts I don't get. Me as a mom of a college student. If I called my son and his friends were holding on to his keys due to his behavior I would accept their reasoning not my sons at that moment knowing they were with him and knew more of the situation and my son is very reliable and trustworthy like Bryce. That was just a bad judgement call and I don't understand why she went against the friends best judgement. It baffles me to this day.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

It baffled me too but i think Bryce simply was able to convince his mom. he probably sounded more normal on the phone at that time and had an excuse as to why hey felt the way they did but why they were "overreacting". She bought it. Sadly.

I'm trying to find the other articles that are a little more clear that the parents didn't know he was headed to Laguna. This article attached indicates that mom wanted to take a flight up, he told her no, to wait until she heard from him and that they had a lot to talk about. Mom states "I never heard from him". The next thing she knew was he ran out of gas in Buttonwillow.

I think they need to check the lake again. And again. With divers.

Just in case.

Terrilynn Monette was found in Bayou St. John in New Orleans, in a part of the bayou that had been ruled out previously by sonar. A diver found her in the bayou several months after she went missing in an area that had already been cleared...and she was in a vehicle underwater, which is much bigger than a body alone.

I hope Bryce is out there alive but I hope that lake is being searched and searched just in case. I can't count the number of cases here on WS missing young men near Bryce's age go missing and end up in the water.

And again, I can't get over the similarities between Bryce's case & the case of Shane Fell:
