Question re: ran out of gas at 9am, gas received at noon.

I believe Bryce called for gas at 9am. Then after getting it, his mom was sent a text message for a survey on the service at noon.

That's just such an odd post to me, but then again, I'm not a late teens/early twenties male. It just sounds so flippant and not grasping the severity of the situation. Just my opinion, of course!

I agree. But he seemed to indicate in his interviews on the news that he felt Bryce didn't want to be found right now. He didn't seem worried there either.

I think Bryce was with the car. If it were some assailant, I could see leaving the phone, but they'd take the laptop for sure, and wallet if it had any money or credit cards (see my response on money below). If Bryce assumed he was coming back to the car (or assumed he wasn't), he might leave his things in the car.

Which means Bryce was most likely driving at the time he was speaking to his mother. This could be the reason he turned around the first time, he was sidetracked by speaking to his mother, and didn't originally intend on going that far or that way.

I am having trouble following the reports. Originally it was reported that he ran out of gas at the Buttonwillow rest stop. He ran out of gas at 9:00am, but the guy with the gas didn't arrive until 12:00pm (3 hours-seems like a long time). If he got back on the road at 12:30, , he'd have arrived at the TA Travel center (on Lagoon drive) around 12:45. Or he might have tried to sleep some more at the rest stop before heading to Buttonwillow proper. If he left Lagoon Dr. around 11:00 PM ish, he was there for around 11 hours or less. Fill up gas tank, use facilities, maybe grab something to eat would take around an hour to 2 hours. 8.5-9.5 hours unaccounted for. He may have tried to sleep, and didn't get much due to comings, goings, heat, light, etc.

Sgt Wallace was replaced with some other LE. That tells me a lot.... But again, an emergency tool leaves a distinctive pattern when used. I wonder if what Yellow Camaro saw could be correct, but with going forward? Stuck with the rear wheels spinning, but trying to back up the hill, while the nose was pointing downhill?

Or possibly he was using his card and saving his cash for when he ended up places that only take cash. I do that on trips all the time. You end up at JoeBobs gas station in the middle of nowhere because your fan belt gave out and by George, JoeBob only takes cash. Bryce may not have been that savvy, but maybe he was.

If his mom kept calling every hour, legally he'd have had to pull over to talk to her (unless he had a hands free thing going in his car). It could take that long if he did. There is also a rest area at Frazier Park (Lebec?) at the top of Grapevine hill, he might have stopped there for a bit. That's a bit odd; if it had been by itself, not so much, but with everything else...maybe.

BBM: If I were him, I'd have been sleeping in the back of the car. I'm pretty sure you can put down the back rows of seats and have a pretty flat spot to sleep in. The back windows are usually tinted, so the road service guy might not have seen him. Most people waiting for gas are standing outside the car, chomping at the bit to get going. I can't imagine anyone sleeping anywhere outside in the Buttonwillow rest stop, but there are covered picnic benches for shade.

At noon in the 90+ degree heat wave of that week the last place I would want to be is in my car if I was out of gas and couldn't run my air conditioner. I don't think it was odd that he wasn't in his car when the man delivered the gas but I don't understand why he would lie and say he was sleeping if he wasn't (doubt he was sleeping in the car in that heat at noon and I also doubt he was sleeping somewhere else and happened to wake up just in time to see the man leaving with the gas he needed.)

If I had to pull over every single time I got a phone call I would be exhausted after such a short drive, too. :floorlaugh: I don't think I know anyone who drives without a hands free device in California but it is possible he didn't have one and would also pull over to take a phone call, I just don't think it is very probable.

I re-read the date on this post and it was 8/31 so I suppose he had not been missing that long. I assumed it was a more recent post. It's odd that he felt Bryce didn't want to be found and if he felt that way then, why? Does he still feel that way now? I wonder if he has shared his feelings re: why Bryce might not want to be found with investigators?

Gitana please don't think I am disregarding your links about the many people who have been missing under what may be similar circumstances (i.e. amnesia, by choice, mental illness, etc.) I know these cases happen and are all possibilities. Somehow, though, they just do not make sense to me with what was going on during the hours surrounding Bryce's disappearance, and also what little we know of him. And it is only my feeling, obviously, which is no more valid than anyone else's.

Madden was released Wed 8/28 (midnight Tues night). Tues is the day he told his gf he took the pill. The roommate made the 4 day statement early on & I'm not thinking he's analyzed all the info we have. He probably is thinking he didn't sleep in Buttonwillow.

Everything I have read states that Madden 25 was released on August 27 and that Game Stop and several other locations made it available to purchase at 12:01am on that Tuesday morning, which was also the day that he told his girlfriend he took the pill.

If I am correct with the 27th release date the 4 days of no sleep would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday leading up to the crash early Friday morning.

Amen to that! Probably 110+ inside the car.

Where could he have been that he would have seen the assistant pull up / leave to know to call him back but the assistant wouldn't have seen him? I wonder.

Right? :D

Right? :D

BBM If it were me I would be in the closest establishment that had the air conditioning running full blast that would also still allow me to keep an eye on my car. BUT I also would have stated so when asked where I was.

here's the thing thats bothering me. If I were near a gas station, I would just walk over and get a can of gas. I was under the impression he was in the middle of nowhere and that is why he called roadside assistance.

Doh! I was looking at the 2012 Madden release date of 8/28. LOL! You are very right!

So.... He was up all night Monday night, Tues he was acting weird according to his gf & he told her he took the Adderall & he was up all night Tues night & Wed night as well, likely sleeping in the early hours of Wed morning around 4-6 when he pulled off to the rest stop.

He was at the rest stop that is a couple miles before the truck stop exit when he ran out of gas.

Who did his mother talk to, re:conversation about his car keys and did they call her, or she them?

I was confused on that....so he ran out of gas at 9am on Thursday morning at the rest stop (which is north of the truck stop), received the 3 gallons of gas at noon, went to get gas at the Buttonwillow Oasis Valero gas station and then was back at the rest stop again when the roadside assistance serviceman checked on him later that day?

Does anyone know what time the roadside assistance serviceman checked on him and found him back at the rest stop?

I don't think that has ever been confirmed.

A = Rest stop
B = Lagoon Dr (truck stop area)
C = Town of Buttonwillow

2.4 miles from rest stop to truck stop
4.4 miles from truck stop to town going through ag fields.
