This is among the many things I wish we knew. The truck stop area is a truck stop... I know that worries some people more than others. Personally the truck stops don't make me all that nervous. I'd love to know where he actually napped. I have completely different thoughts in mind depending on that one factor.
The report previously was that his car was found off of Lagoon Rd in Buttonwillow when his mother asked LE to locate him. There is a major TA Travel Center there, a great place to stop and sleep for a bit if you need to. If I only need a quick nap, I prefer there to the rest stop up the road (the rest stop has that creepy feel) although it is harder to get sleep at the TA due to all the comings and goings.

Just stuck my head in to check on Bryce before heading out to do a half marathon in the rain and wind. :( I'll think of him as I run.

As some have suggested adderall and redbull is not a lethal combination. My group of friends and I did plenty of both in college and I can tell you that if you can survive your heart beating out of your chest from 20mg of adderall, redbull will have little affect, you will hardly feel the redbull compared to the speed like symptoms of adderall. I don't believe redbull has importance but maybe adderall does especially if it was really his first time using.

I keep thinking about the duffle bag. Someone took something out of the duffle bag but didn't bother with the laptop or cell... What was in the duffle bag?

<modsnip>

Just my thoughts, I have many, most are probably wrong.

Kind of off topic, but it freaks me out as well. I grew up in the area, in the country. As a kid about 7 yrs old, our older cousin from the city stayed with us for a few weeks each summer. We never took him to the lake or anywhere special really. And Castaic lake isn't a well known name or place in LA unless one knows of it. But I remember vividly a story he told my brother and I about, of all places, Castaic Lake, with miners or workers going out on a boat, and somehow it ended with there being several dead bodies in the lake, weighed down by chains and weights. He told it as a 'true' legend story that his Dad had told him, though I always took it as a campfire tale which I believe it was. Though, later in life I had heard older relatives mention bodies being found there. I don't mean to scare anyone but I hate thinking about this now.

In the past, the lake had a little of a 'bad vibe' to it. For years in the 80's, the water was 'bad' in the lagoon (sewage?) so people immediately stopped going to swim, fish and hang out there. And it kind of had a bad reputation from that, for many years. This happened when I was about 4, and even up to college, the lagoon with it's beaches and picnic areas, was mostly empty, or, not very heavily attended. People were there, but it was not the type of crowd you would expect for such a place. It's probably different now, but I always remembered that hung over the place for some time. The upper lake wasn't affected by this though.

If this post is considered offensive/violating terms to anyone, I can delete it. It was not meant that way.

I have lived in SCV since 72 and when the lake was first opened would take my family there to swim. My 7 year old daughter was covered in what looked like chicken pox that summer. The Dr said that since she had already had chicken pix it could not have been that. Come to find out the water was polluted by parasites that came in on the bodies of birds and incubated in a water snail and then contaminated the water. (As i remember it) The lower swimming lake was closed and the water was treated. I don't think we went back after that. My daughter is now 45.

I agree with the prior poster that the lake does not have a good vibe to me. To me it is faux wilderness, like Wrightwood in the mountains. So close to the city that sometimes the city's problems go there.

--

My parents talked about the water always having issues when they were younger and they stopped swimming in it. Lots of skin outbreaks and stomach issues etc. That is before the water is heavily treated though. Usually every summer there is a big algae bloom that gives the drinking water in the LA area an Earthy smell and taste but it's normal and natural.

I am an avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, I assume you are refering to swimmers itch... Its a pain in the 🤬🤬🤬 but it is common in many inland lakes all across the states and I'm not sure it is pertinent to this case.

Initially he was at the rest stop just before the Buttonwillow exit. I believe he was there from whenever he arrived & likely pulled over to sleep (sometime between 4-6am is my guess) until at least noon when he was brought gas. Then IIRC he was located by SD around 10pm just off the freeway on Lagoon Rd (truck stop area). Who knows where he was in between, but it's my guess he was just on the truck stop road area. IDK.

I agree except where's the "suburban area" he stopped at? I guess it must be closer to Castaic, but it's kind of hard to tell IMO. Given the options, I really hope he stuck to truck stop areas.

It sounds like a lot of people have adderall horror stories around here. I just wanted to say that my experience with it has been the complete opposite of what people have been saying. I'm not going to go into detail about how much it has changed my life for the better because this is not about me. I just wanted to say that just because someone said he took an adderall once, that doesn't necessarily mean he's a drug addict, sells drugs or had a mental breakdown because of drugs. Can I see someone having trouble sleeping? Absolutely. It's 3:30 a.m. right now and I'm awake. I just don't think enough has been said for us to assume he regularly did this. I understand that people are speculating here, but adderall doesn't necessarily equal doom. I have been taking it for almost seven years. It has made my life so much better, and I can take a med break without having withdrawals.

Maybe he was overly tired...but it's possible that if he did actually take one, it didn't do much more than coffee would do. No one said what the dose was. It could've been 5 or 10 mg. I take 30 and I weigh 115lbs...and I drink a lot of coffee.

I think. THINK. That car was determined to be employees at the lake. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I remember a report that they were identified and ruled out as connected but I have no link to back that up. It was a significant development though, as many wondered if the person could be involved.

Seems this case is going cold very quickly. Why is there no reward offered for the safe return of Bryce like most missing person cases? Bryce's parents live in Laguna Niguel which is a very exclusive expensive area to live in OC. I would mortgage my house to find my child.

I don't know. I don't really think its going cold. LE has stopped looking at the lake but that's all. And I don't know that a reward would accomplish much anyhow. Of course I could be wrong but I can't think of a case that's been solved because of a reward- like people telling something they have known, in the hopes of making money.

Didn't he call his mother to tell her he was on his way at one point?
Also, using his debit card is a trail. Why do that if you are on the run? Just grab cash and go. JMO

I don't know if he ever called her. My sense was she was the one calling him. But my belief is he wasn't in his right mind so his actions may not make sense.

Exactly. Granted I'm not a 19 year old young man, but I just don't see calling every few hours and then disappearing. Maybe I suck at keeping in touch but I think I could be gone for a week before my Mom would even be worried. We're not talking about a 10 year old.

See that's the thing. Her repeated calls and concern tell me she knew Bryce wasn't acting right, knew, consciously or subconsciously, that his welfare was at risk during the trip and was scared most of the time before his car was found.

GOTCHA! So, in other words you felt very uncomfortable, vulnerable and out of place (stood out). I'm glad you followed your gut.

Sounds a LOT like neighborhoods around my area and they would have likely seen Bryce as an "opportunity".

Thank you.

Buttonwillow has a size able "white" minority there. About 36% according to wikipedia. I don't know that Bryce would be that out of place. I've been through there many times. It's like any other truck stop along the 5. I don't think those stops are full of criminals waiting to prey on a guy like Bryce. But that doesn't mean I think he could not have met with foul play. I know he could have. He was vulnerable alone at night in his truck.

Again, is there any evidence that Bryce is addicted to or misused ANY drugs? Because some drug is popular amongst some college students and some young people hide their drug use from parents doesn't mean Bryce was doing this. One incident of him reportedly taking one pill has morphed into something totally different. Most theories now center around him being under the influence of something....really unfair, IMO.

Using an ADHD medication one time when that medication is not prescribed, is misuse of a drug.

But I must say, the drug angle is only one theory among many I have seen. No way do most theories center around Bryce having a drug problem.

The reason, however, that some think he may have been under the influence is quite logical to me and thus not unfair. Clearly, something weird was happening to Bryce:

1. His friends were concerned enough about his behavior that they took his keys.
2. His girlfriend questioned him about his demeanor and he excused it by saying he'd been up all night on Adderall.
3. His mom was worried enough about him before his trip that she offered to fly up there to be with him.
4. Bryce left his residence suddenly, during the second week of school, in the middle of the night.
5. Bryce's mom was worried enough about him that she kept calling him during what should have been a routine trip down the 5 freeway.
6. When Bryce ran out of gas at Buttonwillow, his mom was worried enough that she asked the triple A guy to go back and check on Bryce.
7. The police searched his vehicle for drugs and alcohol when they located him in Castaic. They also commented on his demeanor which indicates his behavior was a concern.
8. Bryce's car crashed.
9. All of this happened within a span of a few days.

Based on the above, I think it's quite fair to speculate about a connection to drug use.

Where do you think he is?

You didn't ask me but I think he could possibly be hanging out with transients in California somewhere or he could be in another state or even Mexico, having travelled there and arrived before the word really spread about him. I think it's possible he walked from his vehicle, got a ride in the night from someone still unaware he went missing and is living off the kindness of strangers.

I would have thought such a scenario far-fetched before seeing multiple cases of people who simply disappeared, including a whole family, without leaving any electronic trace or withdrawing wads of cash or taking their phones or even cars. And all but the family has returned.

I note there are repeated cases of this happening with college students.

I think many/most were suffering a mental break of some sort but are still able to get around, evade detection and survive and I say this because some have done just that on multiple occasions and because mentally ill people survive on the streets for years despite their disability.

I note that Bryce is the right age for adult onset of schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder. My theory is he became I'll before the trip and increasingly more pressured and possibly manicky. I think by the time he got to Buttonwillow, he may have begun suffering delusions and crashed his car in a panic or purposefully crashed it due to delusions.

I don't know if Adderall played a part at all in this. I think he could have actually blamed his behavior on Adserrall so no one would think he was crazy, perhaps realizing in the early stages of a mental break that he wasn't sounding right. It's possible he never took anything at all.

Wow I never heard of this case and I'm near placenta. I will check it out. Thanks.

It's a horribly sad case. The man went through hell losing his wife and then dog and had a second chance at happiness when some monsters yanked it all away from him.

I agree except for #1 I would replace it with he wanted to not be found and drop it down to #3

How can we start a poll?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Oh. Usually I like polls. But in this case since we have family on here don't you think it could seem a bit trivializing to put our theories to a vote? I already feel squeamish talking about our various theories and dead bodies and stuff knowing dragracerz is reading here. This is all so private and intimate really, in a way. What do you think? Do you get where I'm coming from?

Bryce was into marijuana, and where he was going to school is in or near whats called the Emerald Triangle, more marijuana is grown in the Emerald Triangle than anywhere else in the America. August is when all of the pot is harvested and it is moved quickly as possible across the states, there is A LOT of money to be made moving some pot from northern california to southern california or anywhere else. Could this have been a drug deal in buttonwillow or castaic gone wrong? What was in the duffle bag?

Just my thoughts, I have many, most are probably wrong.

Plus buying RedBull for $1.71 is just insanity...

It's a good point that marijuana is kind of coming into season here. I live maybe 20-30 minutes from Bryce's community college in Rocklin. I know little to nothing about the whole pot growing deal, but I know our neighbor's plants were stolen last week and they had to come through our yard to do it.

Like you I really wonder what was in that duffel bag and what was removed from it. My theories bounce around constantly but I bet that bag is important.

Well yeah, of course Adderall doesn't always spell doom. Especially if it prescribed because then it likely would not have the speedy effect t has on people who don't need it.

But the thing is, Bryce is missing and his car was found crashed after he began acting very strangely. So given those circumstances, Adderall horror stories suddenly become relevant.

Tonight I tried to take a step back and take an outside look at the case to see if anything new jumped out at me. Doesn't seem possible for the answer to this to be something that has never occurred to someone on this forum. Because we have come up with SO many ideas. :) But that's what I asked myself. "What's an idea that you haven't considered yet?" And this is what I came up with:

- What if Bryce was never actually going home to begin with? I had only been looking at it
from the angle of him telling his mom he was coming home and he either a) changed his mind en route b) had the accident or c) met with foul play.

But...what if although heading in the direction of Laguna Niguel, he never intended to go there? With that thot, I started re-reading news articles and was very surprised to find one saying that his parents did NOT know he was going to come down to Laguna Niguel until THURSDAY when they found out he had ran out of gas and used their roadside assistance service. What??? How did I forget that??? I remember now that I read somewhere days and days ago that Mom received an automatic message (text or call, I don't remember) from the roadside assistance company letting her know they delivered gas to one of her vehicles in Buttonwillow. Or that they had received a request to deliver gas. Apparently, that's how Mom found out Bryce was even on the road and not at his house?

Or is this article just plain wrong? But now that I read that, I know its not the first time I read/heard that.
So then that made me ask if when Bryce tells his mom not to fly up there, was I only assuming that he told her not to because he was driving down. Because the actual quote seems to just be that he had a lot to talk to her about. Not that he was coming to see her.

As we all know, Mom did not hear from Bryce till Thursday night. So all she knows is he is ran out of gas in Buttonwillow. We know she tried to reach him on his phone several times. We know she got worried enough to have the police track him down. His cell was on because they found him. So why didn't he answer? When did he actually say "Mom, I'm coming home"? Was it not till Thursday NIGHT when he finally called or answered her call? Which brings me back to my first question. Is it possible Bryce was not intending on going home at all but because he got "caught" when he ran out of gas in Buttonwillow (and roadside assistance notified his mom) he decided to just tell her he was coming home to keep her from getting suspicious?

<modsnip>

I'm sorry this is so lengthy! And I also apologize if some of this has already been brought up and I just missed it.

When I was in college (late 1980's) I was offered LSD, pot, whipped cream charges, mushrooms, caffeine pills and Jolt Cola. I said no to everything but the caffeine pills and Jolt Cola and those I only tried a couple of times because I didn't like the effects. Yes I drank a little, only been drunk three times on my life and two of those times were in college. If any young people are reading this - it's not worth it guys. I had so much fun in college I stayed for 8 years! (Was going part time because I was working and I struggled the first two years and had to retake some stuff). You can have fun without drugs! You can get good grades without drugs! (I was Magna 🤬🤬🤬 Laude). Please don't do it. It's not worth messing up the rest of your life. I don't know if that's what happened here, but if drugs had anything to do with it it's even more sad because it's a waste. If you get a mental illness, and yes college age is when a lot of them show up, you can't help that but don't give yourself a problem you don't need to have by doing drugs.

RE: dog tracking

Prior to the initial dog tracking, if someone, other than BL or family member, picked up an item of BL’s from the crashed SUV and then walked to the lake shore with that item, would dogs track the path of the item’s scent which would mistakenly indicate that it was BL who walked from the SUV to the lake shore? TIA

[O/T: I hate FB! New info strewn everywhere … default to “Top Comments” is useless … I appreciate the tool but hate the mess/disorganization! End rant.]

@ Yellow Camero

[I know this sounds like a “duh” question since the SUV launch pad was right next to the cell tower but I have to ask.]

When you were near the SUV launch pad, next to the cell tower, did you happen to notice whether or not you had cell phone service? TIA

Good question... but, no I did not happen to see if I had service or not at that exact location. However, this would probably be irrelevant, given that different providers have different coverage areas, especially in rural areas (my own home has excellent coverage from TWO major providers, and NO reception whatsoever from any other carriers).

Any time during the day that I was out there that I DID use my phone for calls/ texting, I had full coverage. While the area is sort of rural, the hills and valleys are not high/ deep, and being very close to a major thoroughfare (I-5 corridor), near wealthy metropoli such as Valencia and Santa Clarita, and being just north of L.A., I suspect that cell coverage is rarely less than excellent in this area.

Snipped & bolded by me. Can you link to that article please? I remember seeing that mom got an text or something about the roadside assistance, but I don't recall the rest. This seems important to me.
