Does anyone else find this coincidence a little odd:
His parents live in Laguna and he was, supposedly, headed there.
He was found by police on Lagoon Dr.
If he had a GPS,was on some sort of drug (as indicated in numerous previous posts), was tired and emotional...is it possible he punched in the address to Laguna and ended up on Lagoon in Buttonwillow by following the verbal directions from the GPS?
I know this sounds unlikely but I've wondered about that from the first time I saw he was seen on Lagoon Dr.

Considering my GPS has told me to turn right into someone's living room at the end of a dead-end street, it's not entirely far fetched that it steered him wrong. My GPS makes me pick the city first then the street, so it would be a difficult mistake to make, but I don't know if they all work the same way. And of course being emotional, tired, possibly disoriented (especially if it was his first time making this drive), it could be possible.

I still have a hard time with why he'd end up sticking around Buttonwillow for 10+ hours though.

I don't believe the time of the call nor the recording of that call (presuming it was a 911 call) have been released. Apparently, we only have the 5:30am arrival time of responding officers.

I remember looking for that info. early on in this case. The only thing I found was in a media detail put out by the Parks Bureau when they were searching Castaic Lake for Bryce: "At 5:30AM Friday, August 30, 2013, a 9-1-1 call was made by a person who reported a vehicle accident on the Castaic Lake Main Ramp Road. California Highway Patrol officers responded to handle the collision in Castaic, an unincorporated community in the Santa Clarita Valley of northern Los Angeles County."

Did anyone have contact on the phone with him during those ten hours? Or was he possibly passed out in car or a room? I seem to have lost the thread of what I used to know.

From the Timeline:

11:00 p.m. Thursday - Bryce tells his mother he’s buying a beverage at a gas station. A purchase is made for $1.71, she said.

[bold]Shortly after midnight Thursday - “He tells me he’s on the I-5 south but he’s telling me nothing,” she said. [/bold]

As per Uncle dragracerz-Bryce bought $39 worth of gas at the Valero Station on Lagoon Drive in Buttonwillow.

8/30 - (Fri.)

[bold]1:50 a.m. Friday - Bryce, by phone, tells the mother that he “had detoured off I-5 but was back on the I-5.” [/bold]

2:08 a.m. Friday - Karen Laspisa talks to her son for the last time. He tells her his GPS tells him he will arrive in Laguna Niguel in three hours and 25 minutes. [bold]“He told me ‘I got off the I-5 and I’m in a suburban area. I’m going to sleep in my car.’” [/bold]

I just realized that there was an additional exit from the I-5 after leaving Buttonwillow and before the final exit at Castaic. It occurred sometime between "shortly after midnight" and 1:50am.

Where was this exit from the I-5 and what purpose did it serve? Why did he get off of the freeway only to get back on it and then exit again less than 20 minutes later?

Thanks for that link abugs, very informative. So we know they did go to local hotel/motels, I do wonder what the other new info was mentioned in this section:

--
Bryce Laspisa spoke to his mother on the phone at 2:00AM Friday, reportedly from Buttonwillow, Kern County. This was the last contact his family had with him.

Because of this and other newly obtained information, at 11:30 AM, Friday, Sheriff's Parks patrol deputies coordinated an extensive search of Castaic Lake, surrounding mountains, and the Town of Castaic for Mr. Laspisa.

Ha ha! Guess what? If I'm paying for it, I get to visit whenever I want! Evil, I am!!
Yeah, if you're paying for it I can see that. My daughter doesn't get the free ride from me.

On the John and Ken Show interview with BL's mother, she stated (at 18:22, near the end), "In his phone, the only thing on the GPS is our address."

I wish there was a transcript of this interview, as she talks about a lot of different aspects, and it's hard to recall it all...at least, for my pea brain, it is! ;)

Thank you for the map. From my understanding, that is where the phone was pinged, not necessarily where he was found. There was a certain radius around that point that his cell phone could have actually been when it was pinged. (Perhaps someone who knows more about cellphone pings can give more information?)

Yes that is correct, per the transcript:
WITHIN 271 METERS, AREA OF 27700 LAGOON DR
(their caps, not mine ;) )
271 meters is about .168 miles, or 887 feet... Pretty amazing accuracy!

Looking for a place to dump the vehicle?

Several of you have asked why Bryce's Mom was offering to fly up to see Bryce. I agree, it seems a very odd thing to do considering she was there only a few weeks before to get Bryce settled in to his apartment. Not to mention, what 19 yr old wants his mom to fly in and "rescue" him? Not many.

My theory is simply this. Suppose she knew Bryce wanted to drop out of school, move away, etc. It would make more sense that she would rather try and talk him out of it THERE, at the college and at his apartment, than over the phone. It's really hard sometimes to argue your case over the phone. :) Furthermore, she may have thought if he left to come see her and discuss it, that she might never get him to go back. Would be easier to convince him to stay if he was still there.

Might have nothing to do with it, but I just feel like I'm getting vibes that Bryce wanted to cut ties with being there in Roseville/Rocklin. The only part that doesn't add up, of course, is why he left so much of his stuff there at the apartment. That puts holes in my theories. :) I have so many disjointed thoughts and scatted questions. I don't know if they all piece together or if they are just random little facts that have nothing to with nothing. The "promises" Bryce and his roommate made to one another... The "saved my soul" reference...Bryce telling his mom he broke up with Kim...did he know he wasn't coming back and that's why he ended the relationship? ... Why was Mom so quick to be concerned and wanting to rush up there...Makes it seem like Bryce didn't want to be there in the first place or had problems from the get go.... But what kind of problems?...She was worried enough to want to fly up there but not worried enough to want his keys withheld...was that because she thought his gf was trying to keep Bryce at her place in Chico and Bryce didn't want to stay that night?

You know, depending on the type of GPS, it isn't such a bizarre theory. My friend and I were using her talking GPS to get to a park entrance once, and it tried to take us up the back hill (inaccessible by car), through a rock wall, and over a ravine (these were supposed to be car traveling directions). It turned out that there was no entrance on that side of the mountain that led up to the park, but the GPS thought there was ("Recalculating"...) I love my paper maps....

I don't think that is what happened, but the theory is certainly plausible.

If it helps any, there are exactly three hotel/motels within the Ping radius of .168 miles - see A, B, and C listed on this map. At least this pinpoints (well, 3 options) exactly where Bryce was found in Buttonwillow. Here is the Google hotel map link.

Thanks for that, do you know where the rest stop is that he was at?

I do hope more clues came from the Santa Paula footsearch yesterday. And I truly hope the "light his way home" ceremonies bring new insights, and hopefully a resolution soon. Such a beautiful "lighting" message page, my heart goes out to all of the family tomorrow. I will be thinking of you and sending up some prayers for Bryce.

Considering he could have been in Castaic within an hour and a half of being found in Buttonwillow, yet took 5 hours to get there, he could have gotten off anywhere. The most common location in that run, however, is the Rest Area at the top of Grapevine hill (Frazier Park-by gum, I remember when there was nothing up there....). I also rarely sleep in that Rest Area at night. It's a little creepy. Just enough that I only sleep there when there is ample traffic.

I don't know about the rest stop. Was that before Buttonwillow? I lost that thread I think...

Wasn't he at a rest stop when he ran out of gas and was waiting for it to be brought to him? I thought he called for it around 8:00 a.m. and the guy showed up 3 hours later? That's the best I can recall.

I'm with you, I have a zillion disjointed thoughts on this whole thing.

As to the flying, I can see her wanting to BE there in person - that part makes sense to me. The flying up is what I don't understand. Driving would be almost the same amount of time, and might even have gotten her there faster because she wouldn't have to be waiting for the next available flight. Was it to be more dramatic? Make him (or her for that matter) think she'd be there sooner than she realistically probably could be? Maybe they just fly often? I don't know, that part has just always stuck out to me.

Was it his GF who took the keys, or his friends in Roseville/Rocklin? Early on I thought it was his friends, but now I'm confused on that point.

Gorman or Fraizer Park I think.
