On Google maps I found a gate on the main ramp road. It should have been closed when Bryce arrived at that early hour, since it doesn't open until 6:15 am. There looks like another way into the boat ramp area though. I need to look at that a little closer. Perhaps he was driving around, because he was searching for a way to get close to the lake. This would explain why he was caught on camera a few times driving around that area.

Just some thoughts . .

UPDATE: I studied the map of the lake area and have found there was no way Bryce was able to get down to the boat ramp unless he drove around the gates somehow. This is probably why his vehicle rolled. I could be wrong, but according to the hours listed on their website, the gates would have been closed when he tried to access the area, IMO.

Sorry, if this has been already discussed. I've joined late. I'm trying to catch up . .

This has me a bit perplexed since early on as well. It appears there is a gate on the other side of the dam near the closest parking area. I gather his vehicle ended up on the ramp road due to the rollover from a point above.

In my opinion, if he was traveling South on I5 headed home, this side trip into the lake area was not a GPS error, judgement error due to being tired or any such other lapse of judgement...this was a willful diversion. He had to do a fair bit of driving on Lake Huges road to get where he ended up.

As far as the conflicting dog scent trails, I am starting to think he started across the dam, then doubled back for whatever reason and ends up going deeper into the park where the trail is lost....just a guess at this point.

Thanks . . . IMO, BL having driven around the gates onto the bumpy terrain explains why the vehicle rolled. Both gated access roads are on a pitch. SUVs are notorious for rolling over in situations like that. One has to drive down to the boat ramp there. In fact, the access road looks like a switch back. How else did he get down there before the gates had opened? I think he tried to go around one of them.

JMO for now . . it may change with more info . .

His vehicle didn't overturn near the gates of the lake. There is a cell tower, off of Lake Hughes road east of the start of the Main Boat Launch road, that appears to have a large chain link fence around it and there is a break in the guard rail (possibly access for maintenance vehicles); that is where he drove his car and it went off the 15 foot embankment.

(tried to post a link to the google map but it wouldn't work the way I wanted it to. Sorry)

I just got a blank page when trying to open the pic.

I don't know that we are supposed to post photos/links off of Instagram on here (??) When I click on the original post on the previous page it opened the photo for me.

The last photo of Bryce with the video game is very telling to me. He definitely doesn't look the same as he does in all of the other photos I have seen of him.

What do you mean different? I see super short hair

I looked at the google street view of the tower. It looks more like a repeater or telemetry tower for the Parks department, dam maintenance and control or private radio service.

Good point. My guess is that he was tired, disoriented, etc., when he navigated off the road. He may have been so disoriented that he thought this was part of the road (it happens! people have mistakenly driven off boat ramps!), or he may have intentionally gotten off the main road to find a place to pull over and sleep. It looks like a narrow road, so I could see why you might pull over behind the guardrails/gates to take a nap.

Thank you for this article (I don't think that I had read it before.) I would still like clarification on the going back to Roseville on Wednesday night/early Thursday morning because everywhere else I have read that his mom thought he was returning but did not indicate that he had. This article wording is vague, too...."Bryce Laspisa reportedly left his girlfriend's apartment in Chico at about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 28 and returned to Roseville, where he lives, according to authorities. Laspisa then left and was on his way to visit his parents in Southern California when he vanished." Was it confirmed by police that he DID go to his apartment or was it confirmed by police that it was reported that he was expected to go to his apartment? I don't think he did go back to his apartment that night. (His current roommate showed a text from Bryce that was sent Wednesday during the day and indicated that was the last communication he had with him therefore I think the grabbing of his stuff was done by Bryce prior to the text being sent and he did not return to his apartment after that text was sent.)

This below news video states he didn't go to his apartment after he left Chico (which I believe to be accurate.) I think when they state that he started his journey to Laguna Niguel from Roseville they mean earlier Wednesday before going up to Chico to break up with his girlfriend.

Do you guys remember reading from a mom of Bryce's close friend at school, whose also friend's with Kim and her roommate, that he was going to spend Labor Day weekend with Kim, but instead went and broke up with her? Maybe he already had his bags packed when he arrived at Kim's because he intended to stay, but "something" triggered him to try and break up with her and they said he was acting strange enough to take his keys away. I can't quote this because I can't find the thread, but he most likely already had the bag packed and got on the road from Chico to his parents house after that all went down.(?)

Interesting, because I just saw that on Google maps (break in guard rail) on Lake Hughes Road and was going to ask about it! Anyway, it does look like he was trying to go around the gates in some fashion, because they were closed. He saw that break in the guard rail as a possibility, but unfortunately he rolled. I think this is why he was seen riding around. He was looking for access to the lake.

This makes a lot of sense. I am very sure at this point he made a decision to get off I5 and drive into the lake area, and when he could not make it past the gates, he looked for another access not realizing the drop off could roll the vehicle...after all, it's four wheel drive, right? Now the question is, why was it so important to get to the lake that he would drive around looking for another egress point and not finding one, enter by a very risky means and and the very real chance of a confrontation with the Park Security Staff? What is so important about that lake, the dam or the surrounding area?

If the vehicle hadn't rolled and he had stayed on that road, where would he have ended up?

He was trying to get onto the (at the time gated) ramp road and the break in the guardrail presented an opportunity to go down the embankment from Lake Huges Road and onto the ramp road. I think he misjudged and rolled the vehicle.

The ramp road would have taken him down to the boat ramp where small boats are launched from and provides parking for vehicles with boat trailers. There is a boat rental facility there as well.

Maybe he was trying to get to the ramp to drive his car into the lake?

Is it possible that the dogs lost his scent because he got into the water and swam?

In one of the posts by his uncle, he stated that Bryce was a good swimmer.

I keep going back to the lake. I know LE stopped focusing on the lake but is it possible he swam to another side of the lake? Were all of the shores searched?

Now I see some possible scenarios with going down to the boat ramp that late at night (or early morning).

One, he rolls the vehicle, cannot get out because the doors are tweaked and uses the tool to break the rear window, or he gets out a door and uses the tool to break the rear window to get something out of the bag. Then walks off, goes across the damn and then turns around and comes back...threw something into the water at the center of the dam face aka deepest point?

Since he made a willful attempt to get to one of the largest accessible bodies of water, and to the easiest egress point into the water, he was planning to coast it into the water and get rid of it, knowing from TV that a vehicle will float out for a bit before it sinks if all the doors and windows are shut...but rolls it instead and this derails his plan, so he gets whatever it was in the bag and walks out onto the dam to get rid of it, then walks back and exits the area, or tries to walk across the dam and changes his mind and walks back and exits into the park with the intent to walk uphill back to the main road and exit the area.

Or any variation or combination of the above.

??? Good place to wash up (and cold water wake up) after a long drive and miscellaneous with a lot of time spent in a stinky cow poop smelling town, and before seeing parents. ???

Many other options and places to wash up without attempting to break into an after hours restricted area, including fast food wash rooms etc...

The dam is also a restricted area as it appears the road across it is gated at both ends and is for dam maintenance and inspection only.
