Well, I can't find what I was looking for regarding the doors and windows. What I found was that the vehicle was on it's side, the passenger side. So, he may have had to break the window to get out. And also, the truck was only 100 feet from the water. So contrary to the thought of yellowcamaro that his vehicle accidentally rolled backwards and off the hill, it looks like Bryce was in it and that he was, indeed, trying to get in the water:

However, this post states that the seatbelts in the car were not cut and that it was not known if the back window was broken intentionally, or whether it was broken in the crash, which would support yellowcamaro's theory, because it means the car would have crashed backwards!!!: Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - CA CA - Bryce Laspisa, 19, Castaic, 30 Aug 2013 - #1
I found this too, which suggests Bryce was not in a hotel at Buttonwillow:

This shows food and gas purchases were made in Rocklin, which means he could have gone back there before taking off: Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - CA CA - Bryce Laspisa, 19, Castaic, 30 Aug 2013 - #1
This post shows that the truck was seen going toward the lake on two occasions: One at 2:08 a.m., the very same time Bryce was on the phone with his mom, saying he was looking for a place off the 5 to sleep for awhile (which if true, may support the accident theory more): Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - CA CA - Bryce Laspisa, 19, Castaic, 30 Aug 2013 - #1
