I kind of think maybe we should take something learned in the situation with Caron and her daughter and apply it here. There is nothing to suggest these parents had a tight leash on their son, but a lot to suggest something was happening with Bryce's behavior that began to worry them and eventually got to the point where they felt a critical emergency could be occurring.

We do not know everything that was happening at the time that made the mom ask people to check on her son and send LE to find him.

I think if they were that controlling, she wouldn't have allowed Bryce to move away, Bryce would not have had a girlfriend the family seems close to and Karen would not have said to give Bryce's keys back.

Also, both police and the roadside assistance guy reported that Bryce seemed in good spirits, not "angry".

It could be true, though, that Bruce became paranoid and felt he was being watched and thus tried to escape that, but Bryce was not being tracked or surveilled or hunted like a James Bond character.

You know, I have three brother in laws who I helped raise because they have no dad and mom is mentally ill. They are just dumb as stumps sometimes. They range now from 17 to 21, and to me, still lack significant maturity. They are still babies in many ways when it comes to the world, despite having a rough upbringing.

If one of them spontaneously began a road trip on a path and at a length they had never taken before, and started acting oddly before or during the trip, I would be sending the cavalry out after them if they didn't arrive on time. I'm not into helicoptering but this just sounds like a justifiably concerned parent.

I think this proves what I said above. Kern county LE clearly found that something was alarming enough that they better try to locate and then question a young man who was just a bit late in arriving after a road trip home. They don't tend to jump at the commands of nervous moms. There has to be something more.

Well Bryce is missing under odd circumstances so now the low odds become significant.

My 19 year old BIL just described a friend of his to me saying, "Everuthing good about being a human, that's Mikey, in one person.".

Kids that age can be passionate, feel intensely about their problems and view their friends as their saviors.

I agree! IMO, I also think his mother probably regrets not going up there (college) or asking his girlfriend to give him back the keys. As the night unfolded, she probably saw signs that things were amiss.

I had a feeling. I will have to do a different version for mobile phones. It's confusing.

What format did you save the video?

  • #603
I'm so sorry about that. I'm learning. I think it's because I saved it as widescreen. But I'm uploading a new version. It will take an hour or so.
Will this simply replace the existing at the same youtube link, or will the link change? The current video link has been sent to hundreds of sites... hopefully the video just changes automatically but the link and the view count (up to 62 already!!) is maintained.... ?

I think you're correct. Thanks - I hadn't thought about that. I was just throwing it out there as one option...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like he was an xBox gamer not a PC gamer. Based on this, I don't think he was playing video games in BW. JMO.

In widescreen, like an idiot. That's because that's the setting for my own, home movies and I never changed it. Now I know.

It will be a totally, separate link and won't replace anything. It's a different video (same material, though).

Oh no, I might have known. It's not letting me play it. It just says not available on this platform, so I'm guessing it's because I'm in Germany. Someone's going to have to describe it in words for me, please.....

It's coming. However, Germany is the one country that blocks videos that have downloaded music (copyright) so you may not be able to view it even in the mobile version. We'll see.

Just tried to play it on my PC. Not available in Germany.

Sigh. It's okay. I'm used to it now. I can still share it, even if I can't see it.

Great video, gitana1. I've shared on Twitter.

It just dawned on me I read somewhere earlier this week that the parents will be meeting with the detectives today for an update on the case. I so hope the meeting brings them one step closer to finding Bryce. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for some good news for a change.

I am trying to fix the issue. The problem is the copyrighted music. There are embedded codes that restrict the devices the copyrighted music can be played on, so no mobile devices! I'm trying to see what I can do but youtube video manager is down right now. Sorry.

I'm catching up ...

Gitana ... BEAUTIFUL!! Great job!

Amanda ... thank you for sharing what you found in BW. I have so many questions now!

Please excuse the random pattern of thoughts ..

Have we explored the idea that he could have gotten alternative ID (fake or otherwise) in BW? It sounds like he may have "known" some people there. That might explain why he left everything behind at the crash site.

There's still questions though as to where he's gone and why he crashed the car that I can't wrap my head around yet.

Thinking like a 19 year old, I can see that he decided to "escape" to blow off some steam ... feeling trapped (keys being taken away by friends/roommate/whoever), concerned mom offering (or maybe in his head threatening) to fly up there ... not tell anyone where he's going, just get in the car and drive. Ends up in BW ... it's hot, takes off his shirt (which is why they say he was in a wife beater/tank top), sits outside the car just thinking. I'm not sure that 19 year old kids, especially one that's caught up in his own thoughts, recognizes the danger he may be in. Someone approaches him and starts chatting ... maybe he decides to get a fake id (not even sure this is a good theory here) ... maybe just chats with some people, moves locations because someone is bothering him. At this point he doesn't think anyone even knows he's gone. Then all of a sudden people start checking up on him and, understandably, it agitates him (maybe further proves to himself that his parents don't trust him ... not saying that's the case, but from a 19 year old kid, I can see why he'd think that, as a mom, not so much) and now he's angry. He's trying to put his life in order and he can't get any peace.

I'm not sure how or why he ends up at the lake, but like Amanda, I'm not really convinced that was the plan, it might have just happened. Why he's still gone all this time later, I'm not really sure.

As a mom, I can see how I would have done the same things Karen did (ping his phone, send LE, etc) ... you worry about your kid, especially if you think he's going through some rough stuff.

If he's alive and wandering (whether intentionally or not), I hope he finds peace and lets his family know he's okay. If he's not still with us, I hope he is recovered so his family has some closure.
