Looks like a porta potty to me (ewwwww!) and as to the why? Because he is a teenage boy, I assume.

Haha, I came to the same conclusion.

Oh thanks. Now I remember reading about that here before. I'd never seen the IG page before today.
BL looks happy with his gf there. Wish we knew what was going on emotionally between them. Because, almost two years ago, when my son was brokenhearted he had a very difficult time emotionally. All of his friends knew it too. Now he won't allow himself to open his heart up to a girl. As long as that attitude doesn't last forever, I'm okay with it because "love" can be so distracting. Boys can be hurt very deeply. When girls are hurting, I think they just show it more.

I remember an easily accessible link containing a particular picture of BL that would show up in the first couple of pages of a google search for "bryce laspisa". The picture showed a frontal view of BL wearing an all white sleeveless tank top undershirt. I'm curious as this link appears to have disappeared shortly after the initial report of a possible sighting of BL in Port Orford, OR. That possible sighting has BL wearing the same type of undershirt.

Perhaps others can help to clarify this.

The flipped thing struck me though because the SUV was found flipped too.
Probably thinking too much.

I live near Castaic. For clarity, Castaic area is at the foot of the Mountain Freeway 5 pass known arks the Grapevine. It is not in the Mountains. The lower lake that is just a mile or two from the Freeway is in what is referred to as Chaparral. It is sage brush and mesquite. Straggly tough scrub brush. The Angeles National Forest is just beyond the upper lake area. There is a topography change to Pine Trees as the elevation increases. The area that Bryce's scent disappeared in wS in the scrub brush area. Around the lower spillway lake there are trees planted by the parks department. When I took the kids there in the late 1970's when it was new is was very desert like in the swim area at the lower lake.
I know that a lot of you from far away imagine a natural lake with huge trees down to the waterline where someone could get lost. Not like that at the lower lake area. Upper lake is higher elevation and the google pics show big trees surrounding it. If following the facts, Bryce shouldn't have been in the upper area after the crash.

But the birds aren't the only attractions on the [upper] lake. A young coyote also came by the shore Wednesday to take a look around at lunchtime.

Is he looking to make a snack out of a fish or a bird?

``Sandwiches,'' said Lifeguard Mike Bennetts. And he threw the coyote his meal.

(and yet you aren't supposed to feed the wildlife, go figure)

Coyotes often have dens near water sources, and this one came to the lake in daytime. So yes critters are definitely around even the Upper lake...never underestimate what they are capable of...imo.

I should stop thinking so much and compare.
What popped up was, I think when you join the army you need an id. In Germany it's possible to report your id as stolen and get a new one, even it's not. Maybe he did that and had 2 ids? One hes left behind, because he had another?

You can also have a drivers license and an ID here in the states. Both from DMV and legal means of identification.

I believe it is also possible to just go to the DMV and pay $40 or so (IDK what the charge would be in CA) and get a new ID. I don't know what CA requires, but I believe you would need a few documents to show who you really were. Of course, IF Bryce had done this (I don't believe he did) he would have likely done it before the disappearance.

I don't think he enlisted in the Army. MOO.

Can anyone tell me if they have any trouble with the 'magazine' travelling sales crews in this area....they are trouble from what I haved heard and read online, and they wouldn't think twice about taking you in and telling you not to contact your family etc...

I really hope that all possibilities are getting looked at for helping find Bryce....

Good morning, all. Wow, here we are...7 threads later, Bryce missing for, what? 6.5 weeks now? Let's hope today we hear some positive news.

Since we're hashing and rehashing at this point, in the absence of nothing new, here's me slinging some: ;)

Was reading a forum post on a bass fishing site, and there was a fisherman's report on Castaic Lake which I found interesting for our purposes for a couple of reasons.

  • He wrote how in the Castaic area live mountain lions, rattlesnakes, bears, coyotes and bobcats. He says to be cautious when fishing at around 4AM, as carnivorous animals like to hunt at dawn and dusk.

  • The other point I read with interest was where he was talking about moonlight fishing. He says from his experience don't count on the moon for light, as it may get heavily overcast, cloudy and pretty dark. He has a photo of a crescent moon, and the photo is black, except for some lights.

Bryce was out by the lake just around the predawn hour he writes about. I know I've read someone's post way back about the possibility of a mountain lion attack, but I imagine there would have been obvious signs of an attack if that were the case, wouldn't there? (Sorry, I know it's a horrible thought.)

And the moonlight issue got me wondering just how dark it actually was at the time of the accident. Would it have been pitch black, or would the sky have started lightening by then? If he walked the path the scent dogs said he traveled, that was some spooky walk he did if it was still black outside.

His cell phone would have made it easier for him to see. It bothers me he didn't take it with him.

Can you elaborate on 'magazine' sales crews, and which area? (Rocklin/Roseville, Buttonwillow, Castaic, Laguna Nigel...?)

FWIW I live not far from Roseville/Rocklin area where he was living and went to college and the only traveling magazine 'salespeople' I ever see are school kids going door to door selling subscriptions for fundraisers, so I am assuming that's not what you mean.

I just asked too. It's making me want to add to my don't flash cash advice... don't buy any magazines! But I'm sure I'm missing something.

Look up Samantha Bonnell's case. She was traveling with a magazine crew when she ended up going missing. Was actually deceased the entire time, but took a long time for her to be identified.

Although her death was due to being hit by a car on the highway (IIRC), the magazine crew she and her boyfriend were traveling with seemed a bit callous, from what I know of the case.

Samantha's case was the only time I have ever heard of such a traveling magazine crew... I know nothing of any activity similar crews may have in the areas relevant to Bryce.

I don't think it has anything to do with Bryce being missing, but you can easily google "door to door magazine scam" and get some information. I regretably admit, I was taken in by this scam once. Mind your gift of fear.

Sorry for not elaborating better with area......

I suppose I meant Castaic in my post....but any area that BL was in....ButtonWillow....his School area....

If you look online for 'Mag Crew' it should come up with a site the will let you look into the exploitation of young kids through these crews ...

Its a door to door selling magazines, soap and other things......but a lot of young kids get involved and can't leave when the find out it's not what they were promised.
They have to work 15hr days or more hard selling to match any kind of quota their boss tells them aand end up with hardly anything to live off of,and another promise of a dream $$$$$'s worth of holiday at the end......
They discourage you from telling your parents/family what you are doing.....some of them have been dumped in the middle of nowhere ,when they have tried to leave..
Filled with horror stories.....

Thank you! Wow that Google search was enlightening and kind of scary. When I was around his age it was mostly the vacuum cleaner companies taking advantage of the college kids.. sounds like they've moved on or expanded to magazine sales.

As far as Bryce goes, I can only speak to roughly his school area, but the only magazine sales I know of are basically through the kids' schools - normally elementary or Jr. high, not as old as college age. It's usually a couple of week fundraiser deal and they get various gifts if they sell enough subscriptions by a certain date. I've only ever bought them from neighbor kids that I knew pretty well. I don't know how helpful this is, just wanted to respond from a perspective that's local to at least one of the areas he's known to have been.

OK this mag crew website had me in tears. As it crazy as it may sound after reading the stories it could be a possibility. Some of these true stories say that they were asked to drive to small areas and rest stops to pick up others and then off they go to the next location. That they don't allow you to call your parents or communicate with anyone.

Bryce from what we know was looking for a job. I'm gonna see if I see any ads in any newspapers with online publications to see if they have any ads for newspaper sales. Can anyone local to that area check physical newspapers?

ETA: one parent story talks about how there child had to wait in a few cities for hours on end for others to arrive! And a SUV recently flipped with 10 people in a 7 passenger van after falling asleep behind the wheel from being overworked so hard!
