In Bob's case and the Mcstay's ( I think) credit checks were run and accounts were announced to be 'frozen'. Which turned out not to be the case really - not if you count money being withdrawn as activity.

I don't think the checks are 100 per cent assured, but I'm hoping that Bryce was young enough to still be relying on mom and dad for a credit card, and that his own bank account was maybe like a lot of college teenagers - with a monthly allowance going in that generally gets used up at the end of the month? I'm sure his parents will have found a way to check, or made sure police have done so.

If there has been any activity on his accounts though, that could be a very positive indication about Bryce, and I just don't sense Bryce's mom has had any positive news like that.

Could it mean when an alert is put out for any use of a card at cash machines, via the banks' systems? Though I'm sure there is a legal process to go through for that too.

Yeah, we certainly have the ability to get bank records and see if someone's account has been used. I remember hearing they did that in the McStay case too. I also assumed his debit card was linked to an account his parents could access and they have been able to check that- I think I read they deposited an allowance in it for him regularly and let him budget himself. A credit check, however, would show if anyone has tried to open a new account using his information. Locally, we have no software that allows access to that kind of stuff. I don't know what the FBI has. We have to go old school. Getting a credit report would be pretty simple but it definitely isn't routinely done by us.

I think they were trying to point out the different things that can be done. Like credit checks and stuff?? That would be my guess...

Interesting info at that LAPD adult missing persons page.

Such as the SSI tip. Asking that SSI forward a letter the the last known address of the person attached to that social.

Thank you! That probably is what it's for. I got confused because Bryce's case is under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and not Los Angeles Police Department.

Thank you this is correct. They have hired a PI so Im sure he is on top of his game. They are quite expensive IIRC.

I do not know much about PI's and how they really work, but I thought they would kind of try to bring attention to the case, to try to draw out witnesses that maybe are no longer in the area, etc...in other words, be kind of vocal and visible. Maybe I am wrong about that? I don't think they really creep around in the dark spying on people, in other words, like on TV. Are we sure there is a PI on this case? And if so, what do others think he or she is doing and why would there be such a total lack of mention of Bryce's name in media, etc?

FYI maybe I have a completely wrong idea of what they do in this era. Totally possible. I guess my thinking is use of various SM, regular media if possible, etc. to attract extra eyes and ears. Or is the new tip line the work of the PI and that is all we will see? Just wondering and NOT criticizing.

Our verified insider, Bryce's girlfriend says a PI has been hired.

It really all depends on what you ask the PI to do and who the PI is. The ones I have dealt with are usually retired LE and very competent, but there are other people out there who are not LE. It also depends on the facts of the case. In my case I expect the credit check to show nothing as I am sure she was murdered but a credit check showing absolutely nothing was done on her end will be yet another piece of evidence to show she isn't out there somewhere. In Bryce's case, where so much is unknown, it could be even more useful in determining whether he is out there functioning or not. I am sure their PI is busy with the amount of stuff that can be done in this case. I am glad they have one.

I can't think of any reason why the FBI would take on this case. There are no federal issues that cross my mind. I have had luck in getting their assistance in the past but it usually requires evidence that multiple states and foul play are involved or a federal statute. In my experience, anyway.

The Maura Murray case is eerily similar to Bryce's case. Car accident, abandoned car and no Maura anywhere.

Here is part one of five aired on "Disapperared" show on YouTube. All parts available. Interesting story. Sadly she has never been found.

From what I know of the Maura Murray case, this one is very similar.
