Does choosing to ignore the strong possibility that BL has passed somehow allow loved one/s to somehow, in anyway, keep him alive despite the anguish?

Wouldn't one loved one with a more realistic approach help balance the possible unrealistic beliefs of the other?

What are the uncles' positions on BL's status? Have their suggested approaches been followed or discarded?

How can it be helpful, one year on, to simply offer prayers? Isn't that perpetuating the denial?

This may be out of line but ... as this case is a public case, where the public's help was called upon, volunteers were called for and received, I think the public is owed a truthful, full scope approach, realistic expectations, including public opinions made by Klaas org, the other search group, LE who worked on the the case, searchers, etc. JMVHO

Thank you for posting this. I completely agree. I couldn't have said it better.

Remember the burning body discovered at Castaic Lake near where Bryce went missing, the day after his accident? the media, law enforcement, Bryce's Uncle and many others believed it to be Bryce but turned out was not after the autopsy was done.

I always wondered if Bryce could have been wandering around the area lost and walked upon this crime taking place was discovered, spotted by the killers and since he was an eyewitness the killers hurt Bryce and disposed/buried him somewhere. It's just too coincidental this was the day after Bryce's accident and he has been missing since with no trace.

That burning body was a very strange occurrence in relation to BL's disappearance! I also wondered if the scenario you posted could have happened and BL was taken from the lake area, but ... I think it is a very long shot possibility. JMO

IIRC, BL went missing on a Fri, of Labor Day weekend. The still burning body was discovered a few days after BL went missing. I want say it was seen by the passing bicyclist on the Tues or Wed following BL's vehicle crash.

No matter what happened to poor Bryce. I think he had lots of secrets. The Buttonwillow scenario made no sense. I just don't think he was thinking clearly that night and prior 2 days. I wish he never got those keys back. His GF had posted on WS thread about all his weird behavior leading up to this. One minute breaking up and the next he thought they were a couple and going to marry. His mind was messed up from the culprit of Vyvanse. I hate these abused ADD drugs. Adderall addiction ruined my son life that's for sure.

About 4 or more months ago a private professional SARS man and his well trained SARS dog happen to be in the lake Castaic area knew about the BL case, out of the goodness of his heart at no charge took it upon himself to search the Castaic lake shores and surrounding area with his SARS dogs.

Human remains were detected by the dogs either on the south or north side of the lake I can't remember and can't find since it was removed off the FB page. He posted his findings on find the Bryce Laspisa FB page and within a day it was immediately taken down after offering to give the family the information.

The family doesn't want anymore searches which if my child I would organize searches as often as possible especially living in the same state as my missing child.

Were the remains (or scent thereof) reported to LE at the time? I find it interesting that now all the posts here are able to be more honest. There has been so much censorship both here and on Facbook that it's no wonder progress has not been made...and my mind screams "Is this intentional?" And if so, what does the family not want discovered?

In the recent case of Alice Gross, the river bottom where she was found was sooooooo muddy.

I don't know. When I read what he had posted on find Bryce FB page for the Laspisa family to contact him with more info on his findings and that his dogs had hits of human remains in the lake. I thought great finally a break in the case which was what I suspected all along that Bryce was missed at the bottom of the lake. I checked the older mans SARS website. I was impressed went back the next day to see if the Lapisa family responded and wow it was removed. Posters who had seen it too before taken down commented on it being deleted had their posts deleted too like the SARS post just never existed at all. The searchers post was very respectful and offered the family to please get in touch with him with his report and findings. No more searches were done even after this was posted. The only posts that are not deleted are ones to offer prayers and Bryce will be home soon. One guy who posted was surprised the Laspisas only offered $5,000 reward on missing Bryce's flyer. He said he offered higher reward for his dog. That post was taken down very quickly. The handling of this case is very weird to say the least.

This case is so similar to BL he had red hair too. The water and surrounding area extensively searched for months even sonar in the river was used. His body was found in the river 5 months later by a hiker.

I'm sure Bryce's family is coping and handling this to the best of their ability. I'm sure they are attempting to balance the desperate need to find their son and share details of his life, with also attempting to protect matters that are truly personal and private. I know we are all trying to stay away from judging the actions of these family members who are victims....and stay focused on finding Bryce. God Bless his family through this anguish, and God give us insights to help bring any research or findings forth that may help bring him home!

Bryce - where are you?

In short, yes in a twisted way. I had an aunt who had a mental break when her brother died. Denied that it happened, accused the family member who called to tell her of being an impostor playing a mean prank, etc. Denial in painful situations can be extremely powerful and it is hard to "blame" the people experiencing it for not being able to shake it. Now, should other people have a more realistic viewpoint? Of course, but I have no idea what the family dynamic is like so I couldn't speak to that for this family.

I guess the issue is owed by whom. The family has decided to put efforts into PIs under the belief that he is mentally ill or hiding out somehow or perhaps homeless. LE's record looking for adults in these situations is usually pretty minimal or nonexistent outside of the initial week or two following the disappearance. I do think that at least some of the people involved think the lake area has been cleared since there were searches.
So, that kind of leaves us at an unfortunate stand-still. If I had a choice, I would do a very, very intense and careful search of the area, again. That is the big, next step I would take with the understanding that he is most likely deceased. But, it unfortunately isn't my choice or our choice. It is depressing though because I think this is definitely one of the solvable cases on this website. I doubt anything crazy happened or that he ever left the general location of where his vehicle crashed.

Years ago we had a term for the stress experienced by searchers, "Critical Incident Stress". Most SAR people have experienced it at one time or another. I submit that the families experience it as well. It is a traumatic event to have ones child disappear.

The family may change their focus back to searching at some time, or not. That is their choice.

This however does not limit "us" from continuing to investigate every scenario that we have the resources to investigate and boots on the ground to follow up on.

BBM: I think the answer to this question will be the key to solving Bryce's disappearance.

Playing devil's advocate:

If the family was hiding something so significant about BL that they didn't want out in the public, wouldn't they just stop posting on FB and cease requesting public support in the way of prayers and keeping an eye out for any live red-haired young man that resembles BL?

Don't get me wrong, I think [my speculation] there are pertinent details that may hold significant clues to his disappearance which have been kept private but, nonetheless, the parents have publicly persisted in their search, at least for a live BL.

Have the Ls rescheduled to be on Tricia's radio program? If so, anyone know the date? I can't seem to find a listing of upcoming guests on her radio program now that it's on the new radio site and WS no longer has the previous home page summary format which included links to that sort of scheduled info. TIA

To keep things very politically correct, I am just going to go with "there is a lot more to that story". Sometimes, there is good reason for censorship.

Long time lurker... thought I would chime in...

In this case, I think the opposite is true - there is not a real reason to keep this info private any longer. While they do desperately want to know where Bryce is, I am not sure if they want to know why he is where ever he is (if that makes sense).

Poor Bryce. Sadly, I feel his final resting place is in Castaic Lake. I want to believe he is alive out there living amongst the homeless but my gut feeling tells me he is not since he was so dependent upon his parents and would have been spotted by now. Too much time has passed. The very first strong hit from SARS dogs done immediately after the accident near the crash scene led LE right into the lake. IMHO it would have been the strongest and most reliable.

Oh please get a new search team out to Castaic Lake! Please!

Why miss this opportunity while the lake level is so low???

@ sarx: Why isn't the lake being revisited/re-searched? TIA
Reportedly, lake hasn't been searched since w/i first month of BL having gone missing.

I'm feeling like this family has put blinders on and chosen to become gluttons for punishment! JMO

^^This... I started following this case almost from the get go, and this case always seemed weird because of the uber secretive sensitive behavior of the family.

In fact at one point the private investigator came on here and almost made it sound like contact has been made with Bryce.

It could have been incorrect semantics but about them the thread was totally closed for awhile.

There were also vicious Facebook battles that we cannot discuss on here.

There is a lot we don't know, and while frustrating we have to be careful to not insinuate too much.
