CA - Caretaker Arrested After Senior's Body Found in Riverside County Care Facility Trash Bin, La Quinta, 2019

Next court date, 1/9/2024.
That's next Tuesday. This case feels like it's taking forever to get to trial. Welcome to California!

Next court date:
3/8/24
That's all I can find. I'll try to continue updating. On top of the crime itself the incredible delays add more pain to the family of this poor man. California courts seem broken beyond repair. It's a travesty.

We'll see if anything happens after tomorrow's court hearing. It has been two years since this case was bound over for trial, and almost five years since her arrest.

I'm hoping that they're gearing up for a trial. Five years is not unknown in this thoroughly messed up state of California.
I wish I had more detailed records to explain this long delay.

Okay! There might be an actual jury trial very soon!
This is what I found when I got lucky and stumbled onto some real information...with a caveat. They might still be adjudicating mental competency.

Just a little venting:
How does the court know if the defendant is really 'crazy' or faking mental illness? I mean, looking at the incredibly long court record over FIVE YEARS with endless hearings, so many doctors, and numerous continuances, it seems to me she might be stringing the court along to avoid justice.

I just can't get over the sheer cruelty and outright evil nature of this crime. It bothers me to no end.

@JoeFromLB Thank you for opening the thread and consistently updating on this outrageous homicide.

At link in your post, I see the Minutes w this entry from March this year:

"03/14/2024 NOTICE OF PEOPLE'S INTENTION TO NOT SEEK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FILED"

Man, oh, man. :( I'd like to think entry was made in error. Fat chance, huh?

I know the arguments about futility of trying a homicide case as a DP case, in just about every state that still carries out the sentence. Plus the expense, etc.

There is a moratorium on the death penalty in California and who knows how long it will last. In addition, the time lag between sentencing and execution is measured in decades.

There are actually men still on Death Row who were sentenced in the early 1980's! Appeals exhausted but no execution date. I believe there are currently more than 700 condemned inmates. Many though have died of old age or other causes over the years.

I think life without parole would be appropriate for this monster of a woman.

California will not execute anyone anytime soon. It's galling to me, as the voters approved a measure a few years ago to speed up the endless appeals process, but it hasn't had any effect.
Look up Ricardo Rene Sanders. Gunned down customers and workers at a Bob's Big Boy restaurant in L.A. around Christmas time in 1980. Herded them into a large walk-in refrigerator and opened fire. Sentenced to death in 1982, still waiting for an execution date. It's unreal.

And the delays go on and on...yet another "continuance".
November 26th (tomorrow) will mark FIVE years since her arrest. A travesty!

Well, so much for that hearing yesterday.
Another in an endless series of delays. Next hearing, April 30, 2025.
Maybe she'll come to trial before she's 90. I don't get it ...
