Identified! CA - Carlsbad, LIVING WhtFem, 50s, amnesia, Feb'15 - Ashley Menatta

I think she has been here awhile too. I don't think she would be faking the amnesia because of a guy that might have been after her or abused her. If that were the case, wouldn't she want to keep a low profile so he couldn't find her? The suspense of who this woman is, is killing me. lol I hope they hurry up and identify her.I wonder if she could have had jewelry and a purse and someone mugged her? She may be having flashes of memories from years ago when she may have spent some time in Australia.

I totally agree. I'm not sure her memories are current and I also think she may have been mugged ( I read that she had a fall which chipped her tooth and left her semiconscious with this occurring right before she was found) I think this could have been because she was robbed and or left by companion. I think she has traveled the world, comes from or married into wealth but has been in states for many years.
At first I thought she was faking it but she has not set up the typical donation fund and doesn't seem to be asking for money which makes her story more credible as time goes on.
This is so strange. I hope they let us know something soon. I do think the FBI knows who she is but for some reason is not releasing that yet.

match what?

she doesn't have a passport - if she had a passport, she would know who she was

Everyone is fingerprinted and photographed when they enter the US and this is tied to passports. Her fingerprints were not matched. If she has come here from out of the country recently then she would have been fingerprinted, photographed and identified.

I was confused by the fingerprint thing but realized it's because I'm Canadian & it's not standard practice to fingerprint us at border crossings.

Who scanned her fingerprints?

There are a lot of exceptions though: Canadians, diplomatic visas among others. Also, it's only been in effect for a few years so if she entered before it went into effect she wouldn't have been fingerprinted. And if she was married to a US citizen there would have been a different set of rules, too.

Oh, interesting. A nurse friend of mine pointed me to "foreign accent syndrome." She sent me a real technical article but the Wikipedia article covers the basics.

Foreign accent syndrome usually results from a stroke,[1] but can also develop from head trauma,[1] migraines[2] or developmental problems.[3] The condition was first reported in 1907,[4] and between 1941 and 2009 there were sixty-two recorded cases.[3]

So the whole bit with the Australian accent might be a result of the trauma.

She does speak some French perhaps she is from Canada but it just doesn't seem to fit. Mind boggling for sure. I think she was here prior to the fingerprinting or the brain is playing tricks on her with memory and accent. Most likely scenario seems she has been in states for years.

I asked awhile back who pays the medical bills if she's never identified? is there free coverage for low income people & would a homeless person qualify for free cancer care?

What if she finds out who she is and there is something in her past she doesnt want the world to know? Will someone release a statement that she has been identified?

I've wondered that myself.

I think the government would cover that and give her living assistance but I don't know how they do that without an identity. She obviously is getting the cancer treatment and someone is paying for it.

So, HERE it is:

Nearly five months after showing up in a San Diego-area emergency room without any recollection of her name, age, family, or friends, a woman who calls herself “Sam” finally has an identity.

Ashley Menatta, 53, never married and has sisters in Colorado and Maryland. She was born in Pennsylvania, lived in Flagstaff, Arizona and several years ago found her way to Southern California living in La Jolla, Vista, and Carlsbad.
