Hundreds of family and friends packed into a Marysville church Saturday to say their final goodbyes to murder victim Chairo Garibay Ferreyra.

More than 500 people attended the funeral mass at St. Joesph's Church for Garibay Ferreyra, whose body was found Monday afternoon after more than a month of searching for the 20-year-old Yuba County woman. Many mourners came in pink clothing and carried pink flowers, Garibay Ferreyra's favorite color.

Garibay's body had been wrapped in a plastic tarp and weighed down in water by two chunks of concrete, according to Sheriff Virginia Black. The body surfaced after a series of storms last month raised river water levels.

Motorists found Garibay's body in a 20-foot-deep ditch near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks north of Plumas-Arboga Road. It was about a quarter mile from her family's Maplehurst Street home.

Thanks Chico.
This one absolutely troubles me.
LE mentions the 5.25 am contact and partial print on window.

I hope they have someone in mind and are just waiting for the right opportunity to make an arrest.

Bumping for Chairo.

What a beautiful girl. God be with her. I wonder if anyone has heard about the person who confronted her or about any details on that and how would anyone of known she was confronted? Let me say something real fast, I've been coming to WS now for awhile and since coming here I have really been on my toes alot more when it comes to safety etc..sometimes my dh gets mad and says I can't come here anymore because I am starting to become paranoid (like he can stop me from coming lol) But I guess its a good thing because it makes me more aware of the evil amongst us!

Other than the mention in the articles that she was confronted by someone not another word has been written. I wonder though if it was a home invasion type thingy....but the only thing missing was the family car and Chairo....No new news or anything since she was found and laid to rest. :(

The host who sat in for Nancy Grace on her CTV show Friday mentioned this case in conjuction with the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation. No other news related to Chairo has been reported that I've found.

Chairo Garibay of Olivehurst disappeared from her family's home a year ago today and her close friends say not enough is being done to find her killer.

Tereso Villalobos, a close family friend, says he is frustrated that no one has been charged with killing Garibay. He says it does not seem to be a priority for the Yuba County Sheriff's Department. "I feel like they [detectives] don't care about it," said Villalobos. "It's been a year, and there is no progress."

Gov. Schwarzenegger's office today announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the murder of Chairo Garibay.

The announcement comes one day after the one year anniversary of Garibay's disappearance. Monday Garibay's family and friends expressed concern that the investigation had "stalled."

I wish that we knew how LE knew that that gal had talked to someone after her parents left for church. There must have been someone who saw something or there is no way LE could know that. Maybe a neighbor saw something. If someone did see something it doesn't look like anything came out of it after all of this time. I wonder too if she normally went to church in the same car as her parents or was this a special early church service. That is really early to go to church. Wonder if she had told anyone that she was going to church that morning but would go at a later time. That is an odd time for someone to be out creeping around to rob someone. I wonder if there was any sign of a struggle in the house. Maybe a clock got broken and that is how LE knew someone was there at a certain time after her folks left.

I hope that the person who did this is found out. The person went to a lot of trouble to try and hide their crime....a tarp and cement...ran the car into the water...wonder why he did that? Wonder if he left any prints in the car?

It is a fellowship to which no family wants to belong — yet a fellowship that pulled together more than 100 people to celebrate it.

Sunday evening in Olivehurst, the Yuba County Victim/Witness Assistance Program hosted its 17th annual candlelight vigil to remember the parents, children and friends of those who have died violently — those that organizers said are overlooked when attention turns to killers and their victims.

~snip~

Over the years, the vigil has taken in a steadily growing circle of the bereaved. On Sunday, those who had survived their losses for two decades or more mingled with others whose wounds are fresher — like the family of Chairo Garibay, the 20-year-old Olivehurst woman whose beating death in 2005 remains unsolved.

Still unsolved............

Bump for Chairo.

Her family has not given up looking for answers. Every December they hold a memorial for her:
But the memorial isn’t just a prayer service to honor Chairo. It’s also meant to remind the community that her killer has still not been found.“For someone to come forward and say something,” said Magdalena. “No one has said anything. No one has come forward.”

“YUBA COUNTY — A local cold case and unsolved murder has caught the attention of a popular true crime podcast, The Fall Line. Host Laurah Norton hopes to shed light on a mystery left in the dark for more than a decade. “

The family hopes this national spotlight will finally help them get justice for Chairo.

"We have no answers, we don't know what happened," Chairo's sister Marisol Villaseñor told CBS13 in an interview. “
“I remember I was pulled out of school. When I got home, everyone was crying. The detective, he knelt down to me because I was a child. He kneeled down to my height and told me that she was dead," said Villaseñor, remembering what she recalls as the saddest moment of her life. "In my heart, I kind of already knew she was gone. But I just needed those words of confirmation, I guess."
“A happy, smiling person, and I just want her to be remembered as that kind of person," said Villaseñor. "She had a contagious laugh. She always wanted to make people feel happy. Even if you were having a bad day, she would be the person to light up your day."
