I dont see how they are charging him w/ rape and murder when they have no body. What kind of evidence do they have???

Thank you all for the updates with sources as I'm clicking refresh every 60secs to get the latest.

I live in the Westwood area, 2 minutes from the park & was there a few days prior to this happening with my wife & mom. Additionally I play basketball at the outdoor courts every Sunday.

They have DNA evidence, from the sound of it.

Darn that article doesn't say where he was living in 2000, it says "his townhouse". Wonder which city/county/state for that matter this conviction was in? Anybody know?

i am confused as well...i understand they have dna but not sure how that converts to rape/murder...obviously they must have much more than they are releasing. DNA alone could signify an assault if on her underclothes but not sure how they go to murder at that point or if just charging him with that for now to be sure there won't be any bond...

haven't found that yet... however his parent's home is described as a town home and they have been living in it for ten years. (link upstream^)

Kind of interesting to consider... if they have only been living at the current townhome for ten years that would be right around the time that his offense with the 13 year old happened... Did they perhaps move to the current home after this happened??

and grandma's house snip:

In Lake Elsinore, neighbors on Gillette Street — a hillside tract of blue-collar homes overlooking the lake — said Gardner sometimes visited a house owned by his grandmother. They didn’t see any signs of criminal activity there and were surprised by Sunday’s law-enforcement search of the property.

A neighbor said officers were especially interested in a shed behind the two-story house.

That article is terrific! Ten years ago he was violent - I hope every place he has ever lived and worked is checked out regarding missing female children. Bet this guy has a long history. Wonder if he's ever lived in Washington State? moo

I wonder if he has admitted to the rape/murder, but won't disclose where the body is, b/c he's used that dump site before and fears there will be evidence to tie him to other things there. Probably just wishful thinking (about tying him to other crimes) on my part…..

Ok, I just signed up here.....

Sometimes I'm very accurate a looking at things like this through psychic means.

What I 'saw' in this yesterday and last night, was a grove of eucalyptus through which glimpses of a lake could be seen.
These were not the old huge gnarly eucs, but medium age. I 'saw' someone digging and covering things up with leaves
in a small 'clearing' in the grove. In the opposite direction from the lake, there were less small eucs. The person doing this was very frantic and tormented.

That's the most help I can be right now. I've left my personal contact info with the staff if I can be of any further assistance.

A few years back I pinpointed a small boy back east who was lost in the snow. I described where he was and drew pictures of
the area. When they found him, where he was looked exactly like what I had drawn. Unfortunately, I was able to stay with him until he
died in the cold, and they found his body later.

.....that would be nice. Well not "nice"...but you know what I mean. It'd be "nice" to get some closure for other missing persons cases.

Riley, Thank you so much for that infomation. That now makes since as to why her ipod and phone were in her car. Looking at this guy's mugshot and how big he was. I don't think a cellphone would have helped her. SAdly

Sadly, I think you are correct....

Was he sentenced in the earlier case and do prison time? Obviously not much time, but wondered what his status is.

watch the video titled: "more on sex offender accused in girl's disappearance" (left side of the page)

Reporters say he not only served five years for the charge on the 13 year old, but also had another incident earlier in that year with the friend of the 13 year old!

It described where he was living at the time of those charges as a townhome in rancho bernardo (but didn't specify the addy)

look up ^^ you can watch the video at the link I posted. He was sentenced to six years and served five. That means he hasn't been out of jail all that long. (2006 at the earliest)

Seriously!! Are you saying he committed 2 crimes all while "living" in RB prior to the 12/27 incident he's being linked to?

I just heard about Chelsea this morning on HLN so I knew to come here immediately to see what was going on. I just read the whole thread and I'm heartbroken for Chelsea and her family and friends. My prayers and thoughts are with them all, and I pray they find her alive.

My best friends daughter is a runner. I just called her. She runs with her car key tied to her shoe lace. I asked her why not a cell phone or an Ipod.....she said no iPod as it is not safe to not be able to hear your surroundings. And no cell phone as she has dropped several and broke them, lost one...not worth it. She said she does carry pepper spray and a whistle attached to a little clip on her shorts. She also said she doesn't run alone....EVER.

I'm not a runner either, so I was just wondering. I think your friends methodology is most prudent NEVER run alone and the whistle and pepper spray's a darn good idea too! (By the way those tiny travel bottles of hair spray in the eyes works much like pepper spray if you don't have pepper spray on you.)
