At around 9:22 p.m., a man flagged down a Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Deputy and said his wife, Ching “Ping” Chen, was missing from their home in the 5500 block of Beaver Lane. The man told the deputy his wife had went outside to water the plants at around 7 p.m. but never returned.

Chen is a 53-year-old Asian woman with brown hair, blonde highlights, and brown eyes, according to deputies. She is 4′ 11″ and weighs 88 pounds.

She was last seen wearing a light green tank top, green shorts and pink sandals.

In a statement on Thursday, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said a dive team located the body of 53-year-old Ching “Ping” Chen Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. in the water behind a home near Beaver Lane and Willow Lake Road.

Chen’s body was recovered and turned over to the coroner who will conduct an autopsy.

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

The investigation is ongoing.

Based on the location of her home and the scant information we have, I'd say possibly:

1. Slipped and fell in the bay, not a strong swimmer, drowned,
2. Fell, hit her head, was knocked unconscious by the fall, fell in the water, drowned, or,
3. Had a medical event such as an aneurism or seizure, fell in the water, drowned.

Updated: Sheriffs Office Locates Body of Missing Female in Discovery Bay | East County Today

The Sheriffs Office stated they located her around 8:30 pm Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing and the cause of death has yet to be determined. By 4:00 pm Thursday, an autopsy was completed and the cause of death is listed as asphyxia due to drowning.
