Burlando said in a telephone interview Thursday that although he hasn't been in the courtroom, he is getting updates daily, presumably from his parents. He was out of town on business Thursday and declined to discuss details about his life.

When told he was the focus of Wednesday's cross examination by Garcia's defense attorneys, Burlando said, "I'm not surprised. I believe it will get a lot worse before it gets better."

Burlando said he is certain that he will be called to testify, perhaps during the preliminary hearing.

"I've been prepared for the fact that I may have to take the stand. The defense might keep me up there for a week," he said.

Niner, thanx for the info!!
Today's events give me a whole new outlook on things.

After reading Niner's notes, I think Christie had a gambling habit and used
her sexuality as a means to fund it. She seems to have had a pattern of meeting men in casinos and asking them for $$. I don't do the casino circuit, but it seems odd to ask a complete stranger to "borrow" money. How/when/where are you going to pay it back if you don't even know them? Does "the check is in the mail" line still work?? Why would a stranger be willing to loan $ out unless they were hoping to be repaid the same night in some way other than $.

True itsreenw! I agree with you totally. I would NEVER ask someone I didn't know to borrow money - and I've been gambling quite often in the early 80s!!

itsreenw said:
One of the witnesses stated that Garcia vouched for Christie when she asked the other man to borrow $. Garcia supposedly told the other man that Christie would pay him back. That leads me to believe that Garcia was speaking from experience and had dealt with Christie in the past.

hmmm.... interesting thought!

itsreenw said:
Now the video footage makes more sense to me. He was thinking he was going to 'get lucky' but he had served his purpose and Christie wasn't interested in being intimate with him. He tried to cozy up with her as they walked out and she was playfully (but with real intent) pushing him away.

I think he was angry at her for getting money from him and (in his eyes) "leading him on".

I was thinking the same thing!

itsreenw said:
Her poor parents and boyfriend have to hear all that about her. Hopefiully Garcia's wife heard all that in court and will get pissed off enough to help LE.

unfortunately she hasn't shown up in court at all!

This scenerio is certainly possible. I sure don't blame her for what happened to her. I used to put myself in some pretty risky situations when I was younger, and I am lucky nothing happened to me.

Oh I totally agree gardenmom! I too wonder how I got through my early years unscatched!! LOL! Thank the Lord! :D Wild and crazy teen years! and 20s!!

Garcia bought a bottle of wine. I feel certain that he was hoping to get Christie tipsy enough to have his way with her.

He may have even talked her into getting into his car just to give him a goodnight kiss. Once she was in the car, he drove her somewhere. She could have resisted his advances, and that's when he raped her and murdered her.

regarding that quote from above:

Additionally, video surveillance tapes shown in court Wednesday show Wilson leaving the casino and although the footage is grainy, Wilson can be seen at Garcia's car.

now WHY can they (LE) NOT see what happened to her??!! Even if it is grainy??!! Can't they 'see' 'where' she goes?? That's really strange to me!

nanandjim said:
I think that this was a crime of opportunity for Garcia.

my thinking also, nan!

I'm gearing up for tomorrow :) The part about what is seen on the video after reaching his car is curious.....I wonder what part of his car was seen while it was still parked? Specifically wondering if the trunk area was out of range....and the part about him leaving and turning right instead of left towards his home. Ok, all of it is curious LOL

Murder suspect Mario Garcia was absent from his workplace for six days after Christie Wilson disappeared, a Placer County detective testified this morning.

Detective Ken Addison told Judge Larry D. Gaddis during a preliminary hearing today that he spoke with Garcia's coworkers at Sutter Health where Garcia worked in the information technology department. He said the office's logs show Garcia took personal time on Thursday, October 6; telecommuted on Friday, October 7; took a personal day on Monday, October 10; and went into the office briefly on October 11. On that day, Garcia asked for more time off but was denied, according to the detective.

One coworker said that on the 11th Garcia appeared nervous, had an injury to his jaw that made it difficult for him to speak, appeared to be suffering from a poison oak rash and had a welt on the inside of his right arm, Addison testified.

Search and rescue workers spent much of the day searching an area near the Placer County community of Dutch Flat, but were unable to find any sign of Christie Wilson.

On Thursday night authorities received a tip that the body of the 27-year-old woman might be somewhere within a former hydraulic mining site near Dutch Flat, according to Placer County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. George Malim. Based on the information given, investigators regarded the tip as credible.

About 50 searchers fanned out through the area this morning, carefully combing the area for any sign of Wilson. The area is dotted with ponds, deep ravines, and heavy vegetation, making a thorough search a slow process. The search will continue on Saturday.

Dec. 2 - KGO - The search for a missing Sacramento woman ramped up Friday as investigators began combing a remote area in Placer County's Gold Country.

Twenty-seven-year-old Christie Wilson was last seen at the Thunder Valley Casino in Roseville. Information today led investigators up I-80 to the town of Dutch Flat.

Previous searches for Christie Wilson have focused on locations with a known connection to suspect Mario Garcia. This time the only connection is a tip to the Sheriff's Department.

Christie Wilson Case: Testimony Focuses On Suspect

~snip~

A detective who examined Garcia’s car said he found a fabric impression in the passenger door—perhaps left by someone leaning on it with force. That is the same location where a hair and hair follicle were found in the door handle. The detective also testified he found a pocketknife in the car’s center console and an ATM receipt for a $200 withdrawal two days after Christie was last seen.

Does anyone know what's going on with this case?

Has Garcia gone to trial? Any news of a body being found?

Prosecutors tried to establish in court Friday that Auburn resident Mario Flavio Garcia, accused of murdering a woman who has been missing since Oct. 5, lied about how he got a black eye and scratches and bruises on his arms and chest.
Garcia, 53, sought treatment for the injuries Oct. 6 at an Auburn medical clinic and told a physician he had had received them falling from a tree while trimming branches on his property and also had contracted poison oak, a Placer County sheriff's detective testified.

When investigators searched Garcia's rural property on Oct. 11, they found two areas with poison oak but were unable to find evidence of recently cut or broken tree limbs or find where Garcia may have fallen, said Detective Bill Summers.

While detectives were testifying Friday, the Sheriff's Department embarked on a new search for Wilson's body - this time in woods and steep terrain in the Dutch Flat area of Placer County. The old mining area is known as "The Diggings."

D'Arcy said the probe was touched off by "new information on a potential burial site" received by his department.

Lt. George Malim said in a press release that the tip was received about 7 p.m. Thursday.

"The information provided was specific enough that detectives believed it was credible," Malim said.

Nothing was found in Friday's effort from early morning to 4 p.m., but searchers will continue to comb the area today, he said.

The family of Christie Wilson is spending Sunday searching a remote area of Nevada County for the missing woman. Meanwhile, authorities in Placer County have called off official searches for Wilson after a tip to investigators produced no new evidence in the area near Dutch Flat.

Family, friends and volunteer searchers met at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln at 9 a.m. Sunday, the last place the 27-year-old was seen eight and a half weeks ago.

Today's efforts are focused on the campgrounds near Camp Far West in remote Nevada County.

Oh I believe I saw them! Sat right behind Christie's parents. Or, another thought - they could have been Christie's grandparents, as they looked "pretty" old to me! Everyone else that I recall in the courtroom looked like reporters!

oh - and remember I sat outside the courtroom waiting to get in that first day - I sat next to Tana Castro - which at the time I did NOT know 'who' she was. Saw her on the channel 3 news that night. Boy - I would never have recognized her. In person her hair is REALLY blonde, but on tv it looks pretty dark! Anyway... what I was going to say... I asked first 'where' she was from - and she said channel 3, and then she asked me - and I said I was taking notes for a crime forum that I belong to, and she asked which one, and I said WS, and she said - OH, I know that place - great place! So we are known!! :D just wanted to share!

The search at Dutch Flat has been called of... in the paper today:

The search turned up remnants of a methamphetamine lab, a dead bear, a couple of dog corpses, a women's shoe and several items of clothing. The clothing doesn't appear to be Wilson's, Malim said. Bones found during the search will be examined by the county pathologist to confirm that ey are not human.

I haven't heard anything about the search at Camp Far West - well, at least nothing in the paper. Nothing on the news...

in an another article in the paper:

David Dratman, co-council for the defense, told the court Friday that he was concerned with at least one local news station's "erroneous information" in reporting, calling the unidentified station's news story "irresponsible journalism."
The defense does have the option of proposing to the judge that media be banned from further proceedings, although that hasn't happened yet.
Superior Court Judge Larry gaddis expressed his displeasure and called the report "very inaccurate."

chico, or anyone else, do you know 'what' they are talking about? I haven't "heard" anyone "irresponsiblely" reported?? have you?

Also - for the person above asking about the prelim hearing...

it will be in session again at 8:30 Tuesday morning in Dept 2, in the Old Town Courthouse. Chico... you going??

also heard that there will be DNA evidence presented later this coming week!! So maybe we'll "see" something VERY important presented that will nail this guy - and they WILL go to trial! :furious:

I wish they would find Christie... :(

Hmmm not sure what that article is talking about.....I know the family had a quote regarding the reporting in the past day or so.

I went to the search today....found nothing but the usual debris. The search leader did mention that they would assess the Dutch Flat area and then decide if further searching with volunteers in that area is needed.

Camp Far West is right! In the middle of the boonies but one more place that is known to have been searched. News10 (red) and another news van (white) was there...mighta been channel 3.

Can't do court unless it maybe runs over til the end of the week. Hopefully there will be another search next weekend...I can do Saturday.
