they didn't find the suspect and the tracks didn't lead to a suspect.

Big Bear area lots of cabins?
Could he break into one and stay held up?
If the weather gets cold, he could survive.

Yes, lots of cabins and vacation homes.

Even if he painted, removed the roof rack and changed the plate... he did NOT turn his Nissan into a Toyota or a Honda!

So was this truck stolen?
They couldn't run the registration and find out it was a Gray Nissan Titan?
Because that might be different. I saw a road camera with a picture of the truck, so I was pretty sure they knew it was a NISSAN.

However, even if they weren't sure on the type of truck, it STILL wouldn't make this okay.

If there had been a baby in the back of that truck, we may very well be talking about another fatality.

If it WAS him and he'd thrown a pipe bomb out, what good does it do to shoot him at that point? It's already been thrown.

Had they waited and not shot first, they would have quickly realized what was happening when they kept throwing.

They should have just cancelled all newspaper deliveries and put in place a curfew.
If they were going to be that quick to shoot they should have told everyone to just stay off the roads..

There is just no way to make this acceptable. They reacted before thinking, which they are NOT supposed to do. :twocents:

Here's a good timeline on Christopher Dorner. He's been in San Diego Monday and Wednesday of this week (which I'm none too happy about). I pray he is found soon before more people are killed.

Sunday, Feb. 3: Monica Quan, 28, and Keith Lawrence, 27, are found shot to death in their car at an Irvine, Calif., parking structure. Quan, an assistant women’s basketball coach at California State University, Fullerton, was the daughter of a former Los Angeles police captain who represented Dorner in disciplinary hearings that resulted in his dismissal.

They are talking about his ex wife, calling her, showing her house and saying her NAME?!
WTF?! She also works for law enforcement, but they aren't guarding her apparently.

He's from Utah... I haven't noticed any increased anxiety here... I wonder if they've considered he might come here?
Or are they pretty sure he doesn't want to kill random cops.. just those he hates.
Seems like he would have been better off going on his killing spree before they figured out he killed the first two.

I'm not saying it was right or a good decision. I am just saying I understand why it happened.

In the dark, those two trucks look a lot alike. It was a split second decision. If you were sitting outside your house, waiting for a killer that had threatened your kids' lives, and you had a truck description, and a very similar truck drove up to the house and slowed down and began throwing things, you might shoot too and ask questions later.

This is the biggest nightmare for a cop. They put up with this kind of a threat every single day, that someone will shoot them in a traffic stop or during an arrest. But when perps start killing their CHILDREN, they are not going to sit back and watch it happen.

I am not going to be too hard on them for being trigger happy or jumpy. I don't know very many people who could deal with the kind of pressure they put up with every day in the LAPD or LA County Sheriff Dept. :rose:

He is killing random cops now. And he has threatened to attack schools and public workplaces as well.

I mean non California cops. He hasn't killed anyone out of California right?

Regardless of that... I'm going to stay home.
Our cops in this area already act first and ask questions later... I don't even want to mess with them tonight. :twocents:

I know how you feel Katy -- he's been hanging around San Diego far too much for my comfort. We're on very high alert here, and I hope he doesn't decide to return. There are cops everywhere!

A roof rack makes no difference because it comes right off. They don't even take that into account.

All of the early descriptions of the truck said BLUE or GRAY. The witnesses gave
conflicting descriptions.

And yes, the license number could have been a number or two off. It often happens like that.

The house was being protected by undercover cops who parked in unmrked cars , on the street in front of the home. It was not hard for a car to drive past on the street. They did not block off the public road. So imagine the cops surprise when at 4 am a truck, matching the description, comes by, slows down in front of the home and throws an object out the window. I can see how that freaked out---although it was WRONG.

I feel very sympathetic towards the cops in this situation. They are trying to protect the families, the wives and children, of their fellow officers. So they are very amped up right now. That sick man just killed a beautiful young woman, the daughter of the ex-police captain. They all have families themselves so they are very worried and protective. JMO

I can also imagine the surprise of the innocent people in the truck who find themselves being suddenly blasted by huge gunfire.

That's the problem,it is a public street and was not blocked off. It should have been. Are the only families who count, the families of police? Is it okay because these were "only" poor little newspaper deliverers?

Say it was a mother and three kids and they were all shot dead? I am very pro LE in most cases. But these are trained officers and if they are that jittery and just shoot up anything they think looks suspicious, then they need to quit.

Yeah... what do you do if you are being shot at while delivering newspapers?
Obviously you don't realize it's a cop... do you run to try and escape?
Or do you stay and risk getting killed for fear of worse happening if you then run from your shooters?

It would take him about 8-10 hours to get to Utah... so he could be here by now.

I think it's possible he had another vehicle ready to go where he burned out the truck. With how planned this was.

As far as I know he has not shot any cops outside of California. I hope he doesn't make it out of the state.
