He made it clear in his manifesto that is not what he is planning to do.
He believes he will end up dead, he even wants his brain examined.
He also says those who tries to stop him will not survive.

I will be skeptical until he is dead, I would not put it past him to decide he is afraid to die after all.

Then again he has been awfully quiet so maybe he froze to death and they just haven't found him yet.

It all has to do with the history of the LAPD. There are many in their community who were and are distrustful of LAPD, and in the past it was not unwarranted. LAPD has come along way since then so I've read, but this situation with Dorner can really set back some people's opinions of the LAPD so it is more about damage control than it is about Dorner.

The last thing the LAPD needs is people in the community supporting Dorner, and others taking up Dorner's cause. They've got one man who has declared war on them. They don't need others joining him in that war--the real worry for them. One false step by LAPD in the near future, especially in the area of perceived racism or any LEO shooting at innocents in CA could cause a firestorm. The situation is quite dicy. They've reopened Dorner's case to protect themselves, but I think they will decide his dismissal was correct and which most of us would agree with whole-heartedly. Still, it will not bode well in the minds of those who are convinced LAPD is still racist. That will only confirm it for them yet again. Then what? Riots? I hope not.

LAPD is caught between a rock and a hard place.

Excuse me, Dorner is not doing this as any cause, but only for himself. He is no friend to black people or any minority .This is all about HIM.

In his "cryafesto" there were many places where he criticized black people and if you looked at his facebook he has racist content aimed at stereotyping and otherwise putting down black people. An ex girlfriend who was black and dated him for a short time said he hated himself for being black and asked her to "act more like a white girl". What ever that means.

Also because he is black, he is making more racism against black people because many people put all black people in the same bag.

He is also causing any black man who looks anything like him to be put under a lot of fear and stress of being mistaken for him, being stopped and searched, maybe killed by reward hunters or making a "wrong" move and shot. I don't think many people care about these guys. Not saying here, but in general.
This guy is not any crusader for race issues. Only for himself.

That's what I said. LAPD did it to assuage public opinion.

I disagree that LE would unhesitatingly open fire on Dorner, especially with the negative publicity and media storm brewing. Perhaps before the negative public reactions. No, at this point in time LAPD would try their darndest to bring Dorner in without physically harming him, if only to present the (specious) image that they are doing the right thing for the people.

They are firing at people who have no resemblance to the 250+ lb black man. I think it's safe to say they want him dead.

This guy is no rocket scientist, if he was he would have blown up half of the LAPD police station instead of killing a cop's daughter and two random patrol officers.

The video then shows Dorner leaving the scuba section with the 2 yellow tanks, along with another large, black scuba tank. Dorner then goes to the counter, and then has a friendly conversation with the cashier, at times laughing.​

Yes, at that point they wanted him dead. But this is BEFORE the LAPD chief made that 180 degree turn around about opening an investigation to look into his dismissal.

At this stage in time, you would agree the LAPD has to make EXTRA steps to prevent another crappy shooting of innocents and to avoid any more appearances of impropriety than they had ever did before. So I believe they will be extra, extra careful in not shooting on sight when they see Dorner. How much more horrible would it look to the public if LAPD acted rashly and shot Dorner on sight without attempting to give the appearance of trying to bring him in unharmed?

I completely agree! I guarantee those people who see him for anything more than what he is (a cold blooded cowardly murdered) would feel completely different if it were their sister/daughter/father/brother/son/husband/fiance that he murdered in cold blood last week. Throw away cell phones bought at walmart are no big deal.

Now having said that I wouldn't want to use ANY cellphone if I were a fugitive in a remote mountain area. They can probably start checking pings from ALL cell phones in use.

There was talk somewhere, that I can't find right now, that LE was going to have a conference at Big Bear on or near the day his truck was found. Anyone seen Jaws? The tank of air was thrown in the sharks mouth & then it was shot - shark exploded.

A devious plan to shoot the tanks up? Maybe.
