I'm glad they're choosing safety route over media coverage. The high powered rifles reportedly involved could down a copter in a jiffy. And we already allegedly have a reporter shot. If LE has to worry about protecting reporters, then their own safety is at risk.

As for those who will make it out to be a massacre? They would do so, even with media coverage. Just like the folks who claim our first moon landing was a hollywood motion picture.
