The women went in to clean and found the suspect in the cabin.
Nobody should have been allowed to go into a cabin up there unescorted. PERIOD.
Permission should have been gained to search vacant cabins as well.
ESPECIALLY the one closest to where his truck was found!

We have confirmation from the Los Angeles Police Department the ex-cop from LA was shot and killed by a local sheriff's department sniper.

Well I am pretty sure stealing the cleaning ladies car was a RELIEF after holding them hostage.

Glad he let the truck owner and dogs go safely when he stole that vehicle.

I dont want to derail the thread, but permission from whom? The cabin owners, many of whom were unlikely able to be reached?

I will bow out of the thread, because it is hard for me to understand quarterbacking under such unbelievably intense circumstances. There is no manual that I am aware of the deals with a rogue ex cop with incredible tactical skills who decides to terrorize a major metropolitan area and a jurisdiction.

For the lives that were lost, there were many many many saved. Thank you to the first responders who didnt hesitate to do the job you swore to do. No one wins here.

and its implying that dorner killed himself in the cabin
and set fire to the cabin...
maybe he set fire to the cabin....and then shot himself?

So sorry for all the families affected by this nightmare. So many had to go in to hiding, so many are mourning the death of a loved one, so many traumatized by this mans delusions.

Thank goodness he was still up there and was finally taken down.

May all those families affected find the strength to get through this and someday find peace.

ppl around here thought that big bear should have been closed down while they were having the manhunt - there is really only 2 hwys in and out, but the day they found the truck there was a big snow storm, so the officials not only did not lock down big bear, they promoted tourist to come - in fact cnn reports w/ their interview w/ the cabin owners, they were afraid to come up and sent their made to clean, and thats who doerner tied up

It sounds like he finally was making his move to get in a vehicle and leave the house where he had tied up 2 people. I am surprised he didnt tie them up better to give himself more time to get away from the area. It sounds like they managed to make a phone call to police very shortly after he took their vehicle.

I honestly thought he wasn't up there anymore. I thought because he lit the truck on fire and it was an "eff you" to LE on his way out. I do not understand how he could have been so close to where the burned out truck was and those cabins weren't checked. The search was all over the area for days and yet the cabins so close to the burnt out truck were not cleared first before fanning their way out. Insane.
