GROVER BEACH, Calif. - The Grover Beach Police Department is seeking the community's assistance in their search for an elderly couple who went missing out of Grover Beach on Saturday, May 23.
Police said family members of the couple reported them missing Sunday morning. The family said the couple went out for a day drive on Saturday but never returned home.
They said 72-year-old Clara Ruth Vega and her husband 78-year-old Manuel (Manny) Vega went out for a drive in their 2004 Chevrolet Corvette with California license number 6KYV938.
The family reported last having contact with the couple over the phone around 2 a.m. early Sunday morning. Clara and Manuel reportedly told the family they had gotten lost near the Hanford, Calif. area.
The family said they lost phone contact with the couple after that call and decided to contact Grover Beach police.
Police have sent out a statewide "Be On the Lookout" notice for the couple and their car.
By tracing back their cell phone signal, police determined the couple's phone was last in the area of Highway 99 in McFarland, Calif. around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Officers said they have since lost the cell phone's signal.
McFarland and Kern County law enforcement agencies have been notified about the couple. However, those agencies said they searched the area and did not locate the couple.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Vega suffer from some medical conditions that are leaving family members concerned that they may be in distress.
Clara Vega is described as a white woman who is 5-foot-4, weighs 140 pounds and has gray hair and hazel eyes.
Manuel Vega is described as a white man who is also 5-foot-4, weighs 140 pounds and has gray hair and brown eyes.
Police provided example images of what the Vegas' 2004 Chevrolet Corvette might look like. However, the images are not of their actual car.
