GUILTY CA - Classic (Orson West, 3) & Cincere (Orrin West, 4), still missing, Calif. City, *Mistrial on counts 4 & 5)* 21 Dec 2020 #8

Just wanted to say the child was 10 y/o at the time. Sorry to be picky.
No, you're correct, I just gave his age, now, because though he was ten at the time, I think one of the other kids is ten or almost ten now, and I didn't want there to be confusion about which of the four boys I was talking about. Turns out I just confused in a different way. I could have been clearer.

No worries!
I am happy that the other boys names have been kept out of MSM and that made it hard to keep track of which boy said what so we went by ages.

I hope the boys are at peace, wherever they are. These lives, though gone, stay with us and we carry them forward. My heart goes out to all the wider victims of these crimes too. There’s no winners, but there is justice.

Makes complete sense, I probably would have worked that out normally but I'm up waaaay past my bedtime. Sun's coming up, I just stayed up to hear the verdict.

I'm happy, and sad. Happy to hear lots of guilty, sad not to hear them for Classic's charges, too. But they weren't 'not guilty' so I hope to hear guilty for those someday soon.

Love you all, and good night.

While this trial didn't wrap up as neatly as I'd hoped, both parents have been found guilty of second degree murder plus other offenses. They will go to prison and my hope is they will receive the harshest sentences the law will permit. I will remember these sweet boys who never seemed to have a chance at life.

Noting:

Jurors found the Wests guilty of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty regarding Orrin West, 4, but failed to reach verdicts on second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Orson’s death. A guilty verdict for child cruelty was returned regarding Orson.

Second-degree murder carries a prison term of 15 years to life. The couple was also convicted of falsely reporting an emergency.

Sentencing is set for July 13.

Now we need to hope for a long sentence for both TW and JW.

That is what I was looking for, prison terms. Hope with there being multiple counts that it will be more than the minimum sentence.

I'm not understanding this (as per link in #750):

Jurors found Trezell guilty of:
-Second-Degree Murder
Jurors did not find a verdict of Trezell in:
-Second-Degree Murder

Jurors found Jacqueline guilty of:
-Second-Degree Murder
Jurors did not find a verdict of Jacqueline in:
-Second-Degree Murder

Does this apply to separate children?
Yes.

Count 1 Second-degree Murder - Orrin
Count 2 Involuntary Manslaughter - Orrin
Count 3 Willful Cruelty to a Child - Orrin
Count 4 Conspiracy to Commit Murder - Orson
Count 5 Second-degree Murder - Orson
Count 6 Willful Cruelty to a Child - Orson
Count 7 False Report to Law Enforcement

Those two counts for each of them were both in regard to Orrin.
From the quoted link, to be clear:

The jury did not find a verdict for two counts, second-degree murder and conspire to commit a crime. Those counts are in regard to 3-year-old Orson West.

What is the number of years they can potentially receive?

Hope the jurors talk. Would love to hear how delibs went.

How does that work, 2nd degree murder AND involuntary manslaughter. Seems like it would be one or the other? Or is involuntary manslaughter automatically 2 nd deg. murder in Cal? Was that explained? Geez I hate people who haven't followed a case then helicopter in! :p:p
