CA - Court upholds Menendez brothers' convictions

Yes I do. I don't think that they should ever be free because of the heinousness of their crimes. I'm sorry, but being abused doesn't give you a free pass to murder.
They didn't get a free pass, and they were never going to. As I said, they were always going to serve time. All of the first trial jurors agreed that a crime had been committed, they just couldn't agree on the degree of guilt.

can anybody say that they will never commit another crime again when this was so barbaric in nature?

The time to bring up mitigating factors is at sentencing, Not just because they want to be free and feel they've done enough time.

If they would have gotten a fair trial, I would agree with you. Their abuse and the information that their father was violent sexual predator was purposely excluded from their original trial. “Bring it up at sentencing” means little when society in general has little sympathy or understanding of abuse or its effects.

So they can not say with certainty that they won’t. So that means Prison is the best place for them.

“Most likely” isn’t good enough imo

Isn’t it a waste of time, money, and effort on behalf of the state when they could use those resources to go after offenders who are an actual threat to the public? If you still think there is some minute chance they could reoffend, then would you be open to a lifetime of parole/probation?

They ARE an actual threat to the public, and I would NOT feel safe with them out.

Considering they had no history of violence before killing their parents, that is also in their favor, IMO.

Was one them not out a thief and breaking into houses?

So who knows what else they would have been capable of if they hadn’t been caught.

ETA - for such scared boys living in fear of their abusers they were certainly happy to rock the boat and risk criminal behavior.

It's strange how society are more forgiving of abusers than of those who refuse to endure the abuse. Jmo.

I don’t even know how much of what they told was the truth. That’s the issue as they constantly lied time and time again.

And it’s never acceptable to take justice into your own hands.

Millions of people suffer trauma, but they don’t decide to brutally annihilate their parents. That’s the big difference here.
Its very true, but millions havent been abused the way these boys were allegedly.
It wasnt just physical, it was also sexual, it was controlling abuse, it was financial abuse, it was ridicule. Their father was powerful. This is not an every day case. This wasnt a poor family where the dad walked out after a few years… this dad abused them every day. They got no relief.

I find it interesting that a lot of people find the boys spending habits after the murder to mean that they are guilty.

If everything they say was true

Picture this, two adults, their whole lives
- sexually abused
- every action they took was controlled
- verbally abused
- financially controlled
- no support or love from either parent.

One brother sexually abused the other

These boys/ men would be so messed

Once their parents were gone, it would have equaled freedom for the first time in their entire lives

Whether they murdered to protect themselves physically from their parents or murdered them to get their freedom/lives

I actually dont see what other option they had to get out.

Who was going to believe them?

They had no money, they looked like spoilt rich kids. They werent either, they were abused kids. They were completely controlled.

I believe they did this to save their lives from their parents.

I also believe they were not mentally well

All imo

allegedly - I still do not believe half of their story as they changed it to multiple times to see which story would stick.

Moo
There was no reason for those parents to have pictures of their children's genitals unless they were predators. Simple as that. There was also generational abuse on both sides of the family and someone else has accused Jose Menendez of SA

Here's the deal, the guns and ammunition were purchased two days before the murders. They were bought with a fake ID by Lyle who was plenty old enough to buy his own guns. This, to me, speaks of premeditation and premeditation is murder. Keep them locked up as sentenced.
