Deceased/Not Found CA - Danielle Bisnell, 27, traveling in van w/ POI, never made it home, Redding, 11 Dec 2019 *arrest*

While there is "substantial" evidence to linking Card to Bisnell's killing, Ortega said she could not discuss how he allegedly murdered her.

Siskiyou County Senior Deputy District Attorney Melissa Whetstine told Linville on Tuesday that her office has been keeping close tabs on Card while he remains in the hospital.

"The reason why he's not here is because he was transported out of the jail down to San Francisco. I don't know what we're supposed to do with somebody whose leg was amputated and has no car, and they're supposed to magically appear," Linville said.

"Despite Bisnell's pleas to return home in time for her son's 7th birthday, she never arrived home and has not been seen or heard from since," Redding police said in a news release.

Police said Card was behaving similarly — trying to befriend vulnerable women — on Oct. 10, the same day he was arrested in connection with Bisnell's disappearance.

"Card has a history of befriending women who appear distressed or under the influence of drugs and alcohol," Redding police said.

"This seems to be Card’s method of finding women to take advantage of, and usually occurs near convenience stores or gas stations," police said.

After a four-year investigation, Erick Card was arrested at his Chico home in October 2023. On Thursday, May 30, 2024 Card will have his preliminary examination in Siskiyou County Superior Court in Yreka. Investigators believe he killed Danielle Bisnell of Redding in Siskiyou County.

Redding police investigators say in December of 2019 Bisnell was under the influence of drugs and met Card at a 7-Eleven store. They believe he convinced her to travel to Oregon with him.. And killed her in Siskiyou County. Bisnell’s remains have not yet been located.

Details of Disappearance

Bisnell left her home in Redding, California on December 7, 2019 and traveled to central Oregon via Interstate 5. Her boyfriend stated she was under the influence of drugs and "in an unstable state of mind" at the time.

On December 10, she called her mother and said she was at a rest stop and on her way home, but had to stop and get her son a birthday present. She didn't have a car and was traveling with a man named "Eric", who had made her a bed in the back of his minivan. She also made a Facetime call to a friend while she was in the van.

Bisnell never contacted her family again. Her last known location was North Point Apartments in Redding. In mid-January 2020, police located and identified the man she had been traveling with. He was Erick Eugene Card, a Chico, California resident. He reportedly has a history of befriending women who are emotionally distressed or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In October 2023, Card was charged with homicide in Bisnell's case. Authorities believe he convinced her to travel to Oregon with him, and initially agreed to take her back home to Redding, but he changed his mind and ultimately killed her in Siskyou County, California. A photo of Card is posted with this case summary. He is awaiting trial.

Bisnell's remains have never been found. Foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
