I can agree that forgiveness or at least acceptance is good for yourself. And had this mom said privately to her sister, "ok, I will accept and forgive you for your actions because I feel you were under the guys spell" that I could understand. Even to refuse to speak publicly about her sister's involvement, I could understand. But to go public with that "forgiveness" and to even publicly defend her sister- to me that seems like a betrayal of her daughter. It looks like she is less concerned over what her daughter has gone through and is going through, than she is about what her sister is going through.

And it also makes me wonder. This was full out rape wasn't it? And not once, but repeated rape of a young child? So this is one time when it makes me wonder- how much did she really know about the abuse before LE got involved? Is she defending the sister? Or is she trying to justify the fact that she continually allowed the child to go with her sister... even after she may have noticed some problems?

Just the fact that she states that her sister was "under the guy's spell"... well that was something she had to have noticed before. And if he was so bad, why wasn't she concerned before, why did she still allow the child to go with them?

I appreciate you bringing this up, yet like in the Chester Stiles case, it is hard to imagine that a child who is screaming in pain on one of the taped attacks may or may not have triggered a few questions in the mind of her mother when she was returned from these visits...common sense dictates that there was some kind of physical sign. I do not know, and would rather not, but to me it adds up to some level of denial. Not a judgment, just a guess.

In the end, the child is the one whose life is torn apart if not now than later when puberty hits....god bless her and keep her. I hope this family is smart about the steps it takes to heal.

I'm in 100% agreement with you.
As with you, it's purely a guess--- but I think the parent is dealing with some level of denial.

Sikat and Hwang were arrested in 2003 after a housekeeper discovered some of the videotapes while the Rancho Santa Margarita couple were honeymooning. Investigators found a locked wooden trunk they dubbed a "little chest of horrors" in the couple's bedroom closet; it contained 212 videotapes.

The tapes show Hwang molesting girls, some with Sikat in Orange County.

Sikat's niece is seen in four of the tapes.

50 years? It's only 50 years too short of a sentence
