The article below states that Debra stayed in the truck. She and the truck were missing and the truck was found later.

Still doesn't sound right. Sounds like something isn't right about this. Did they interrogate them? Polygraph them?
Thanks for the heads-up. I was distracted while reading this entry. But did find a Candidate for submission.
I had read it like they "left it up to her" to retrieve the carcass. Easy mistake. They should edit that entry actually to avoid any confusion. Did they actually have a dead deer in their possession when the police arrived? That would be interesting to know.

I totally agree!

A female, 2 men and firearms. These guys walked? This sounds wrong in so many levels.
Did they process the truck for evidence? Blood spatter in the cab and bed? Did she runaway and the camping trip is an alibi?
Had anyone verified the height and eye color of this female?

A couple of pieces of information/comments to add.
1. January 24, 1991 was a Thursday.
2. January 31, 1991 was a Thursday and the date the truck was found; 1 week later.
3. The temperature in the San Jacinto area on 1/24/91 was a low around 40, high of 64. We are not told when they went hunting, but to me, this is not sandal weather. (I will admit I am not a big fan of cold weather, which is what this would be to me.)
4. January is not typically "deer season", not according to California law/regs that I could find.
5. Hunting on Indian land follows tribal rules/regulations - perhaps the hunting occurred there because it was outside the state regulated season. I believe permission would still need to be obtained; having said that, and if true, then I would think there would possibly be some type of association with the tribe.
6. The distance from San Jacinto to the Santa Rosa Indian reservation is ~ 36 miles, travelling through the San Jacinto State Park which is adjacent to and borders Santa Rosa.

7. There is no mention anywhere that I can find of Ms. McCoy as last being seen by anyone other than these two men.
8. There is also no mention of when she was reported as missing - if anyone knows that information, please post.
9. There is also no mention of the condition or contents of the truck when it was found - if anyone knows that information, please post. Were the keys in it? Was it drivable? Have gas? Ransacked? Any of her items in it? etc
10. I wasn't able to find any info relative to the search team - often you can find historical mission records. If anyone can find those, please post also as they may provide additional info. It appears the search Did Not convene until After the truck was located.

These are most likely automatic rule outs since they are all VA.

Of course there is something strange, it could be that these two guys wanted to overdo it and when she resisted she was murdered, probably dismembered and left to the animals... and I also wonder about the polygraph, statements, the body of the dead animal, footprints, etc. ..
those two guys killed McCoy...
either way
rest in peace
